Miss Jessie's Miko is "Shingling" in DC!

CurleeDST-do you have the stylist's name in the Baltimore salon? I'm tired of looking in VA for someone that can cut natural hair well.

I also found a Natural Salon in Baltimore called Natural Hair Extraordinaire by Riah and the website is located at http://www.riahhair.net/. It's off Charles St. I believe. I have an appointment on Weds, and her price list is affordable. Can't wait!

Well with my schedule and my latest failed attempt at starting locs, I am just going to stick with my tried and true - Clarke-Morley salon in Baltimore, MD b/c she cuts naturally kinky and curly hair wonderfully and for $45 bucks. I can't even get down to DC to meet up with friends so I just need to abandon the idea of getting to see Miko firsthand for a shape and cut.

They are located on E. Redwood and my stylist's name is Susan. I have an appointment with her on 3/17/07 for a shape up.

One of my friends in D.C. has been dying to go and I gave her the number. She called but Miko told her it would be 425.00 for the silkener so she declined.

LOL! I know that's right...

I have a consult with Miko on Friday. It's funny, I have like 3 consults back to back this week. I do feel a bit nervous though.

I posted this on another board and realized that I forgot to update my visit.

I went to see Miko on Friday at an Ethopian salon that she is renting space in DC. I got a coil out for $225 (yeah, I typed 225) and that included my consultation of $50. She seemed a bit dissapointed when I told her I did not want a silkner. Her assistant did the coil out and it looks good but not $225 good. While the assistant was doing my hair I was reading and she took 30 minutes to put the twists in. I really kept expecting Miko to come back as the assistant was doing my hair.
Miko did check on me while I was under the dryer, but in the end the assistant basically finished my hair. The whole procedure took 3 hours.

I feel as though I got gypped but I can't entirely blame her since I did agree to the procedure. I think she knew that she couldn't charge $340 for a silkner since I didn't want one so she just charged me something. I should have just walked out but I didn't. The whole appt took about 3 hours. While I was in the salon, three women were there to get the silkner and one of them flew in from Chicago. After Miko had finished with their hair, to me it didn't look like the pictures on the website. It looked like my hair when I used to have my hair permed and it would get wet. Miko wasn't committal on how long she would be in the area either.

Let me know if you have any questions. Also, be sure to carry cash with you if you decide to go. She doesn't take any other form of payment.

Wow. It's crazy that she charges that much... makes it alot more affordable just to buy the products.:look: (pj on the loose) I heard that it was an arm and a leg to get hair done at Curves too.

Well the good thing is, you don't have to wonder and it wasn't anything permanent on your hair!

Have any pictures?? I would love to see the coil out.

I got the scoop! I'll try to get back to post it all. Source is another popular stylist who was contacted by one of the sisters to "help out" that my manager went to this past Saturday. Long story short, multiple litigations are going on 1)sister's sueing each other, 2)Neither one of them have enough $$$ to buy the other out and neither one of the is willing to budge. 3) Titi wants to use the name Miss Jessie's for the new shop, but can't for legal reasons 4) The new shop was originally supposed to open in March, and now they say June. However, the source says the way things are looking, that won't be happening. 5) The other litigation is for false advertisement supposedly about the whole "Miss Jessie's Story" that you see printed on the products and that it is completely frabricated. 6) the sisters had no exit strategy in the contract.

Sorry for the order or disorder of things, I'm rushing! I'm going ahead and moving on to find another stylist.

I never really believed the Miss Jessie's story-but I did think it was a great marketing idea. So1913--thanks for sharing the latest gossip on the sisters. But I am just a little bit curious about what started their fight. Money?

Thanks for keeping us up to date.

Firecracker you are so, so funny!!!!! :lachen: :lachen:

So1913, thanks for the heads up. I was surprise to see this thread resurrected. I thought it was because of the new products that were supposed to be coming out from Miss Jessie. In a featured article from naturallycurly.com one of them was saying that they had found something for shrinkage and it got me excited.

I hate when family fights. Sounds kind of shady that she will only accept cash. I hope she isn't getting herself into tax trouble by trying to hide money.

That is ridiculous. Their prices are incredibly high so I thought that everything was on point.

Does anyone know if Miko is still in DC? My co-worker wants her to do her BC. OR any good natural salons in the DC area

I finally called and spoke w/Miko back in May. In the end her prices were just to steep for me right now. However, when I checked her www.findmiko.com site last week and her contact info only listed her cell number. I found that interesting....so today I just checked Miss Jessie's Salon site http://missjessies.com/ourstory.htm and found that they have re-opened for business at the original location in Brooklyn. So I don't know what's going on now.....:look:

If anyone has any info please post.
