Wow, ummmm :look: interesting. Okay, since it's not close by, where do suggest I stay? I want to be around resturants, shopping areas, ya know, the life!

There are tons of new hotels near the convention center, which is a great central point to the airport (National), shopping (Gallery Place/Chinatown, Georgetown, Metro Center), resturants, clubs and sights (museums, monuments, etc). DC is probably one of the cheapest cities to visit considering 90% of the sights & musems are free. Transportation is great and convenient.

Staying near U Street also gives you the opportunity to visit Adam's Morgan which is also a nice location, and equally diverse, in culture and, but not quite to the same degree, lifestyle choices.

Adams Morgan is great and so is MoBay Cafe! YUM! Parking SUCKS but hey that is D.C. for ya! Staying near the convention center is also a great idea b/c it is close to alot of sites, restaurants and clubs. Also public transportation is very convenient.

Wow, you all are getting me so dang excited! Me and hubby have vacation in June, so we are gonna try to come up that way. Is there a Six Flags or something around in DC?

There is a Six Flags in Largo, MD but if you are coming from down south there is a Kings Dominion in Richmond, VA and a Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, VA (I prefer the KD to 6Flags and Busch)

There is a 6 Flags close by in Maryland off of Central Ave. I think. There is also King's Dominion which is about 90 minutes south of DC in Virginia.

Nope not yet. I would not be ready to go for another 2 weeks anyway but then again, if she is fully booked, I may not be able to get in for a few months anyway.

I want a nice shaped cut so it grows out very nicely - like SO1913.

I love her hair's shape.

Anybody make an appt yet?

How is driving there? I mean, here in Memphis, we are kinda curteous. We'll let you over if you need to get over. We don't typically act like we own the roads.

If driving is pretty rough, would public transportation be fine for us to go to Six Flags or something?

While navigating in and around DC you can probably walk or take the train. To come to Maryland or VA I would drive. When I am in an unfamiliar city I like to have some degree of control of being able to come and go at my own will in case anything jumps off.

The driving is normal - nothing scary.

Doing things outside the city take your car, inside "The Diamond" use public transpo - parking can be a nightmare

You all are gonna make me shout for real. Me and honey were going to go to Cedar Point Amusement Park, but there's nothing to do in Sandusky, Ohio. Now, we can go to DC, kick it every night ,go to amusement parks AND I can get my hair cut! YAY! I am excited. I am going to start making arrangements now.

Okay, I just talked to Miko's receptionist and she informed me that if all I want is a wash and cut, that's all I have to get! I don't have to get the other services she offers;however, I am considering getting it flatironed by her. The charge will be around $300.00. For just the angle and balance cut, she charges around $200.00. What's another $100.00 to look good my last day in DC, because when I get my hair fixed, I want the next day to be me and my hubby getting on the plane coming back to Memphis.

I am late on this thread...DC is a wonderful place to visit! If you park and take the metro you will be able to see a lot and do alot while avoiding traffic because its pretty bad. The metro is pretty easy to understand is there is a stop near all the key points in DC except Georgetown for some reason. Metro by day and driving by night should work a lot easier than driving all day....and no the drivers are not courteous at all!

Yeah, I got wind of this about 2 weeks ago. Not sure what i'm going to do...I love my cut and would like to keep it...I have a lot of friends in the DC area and go down every once in a while...so I can easily plan to go...

The thing is Miko was the only one that performed the major services at Miss Jessie's (assistants and Titi did shingling, fingerstyling, setting, etc.) so pretty much ALL of Miss Jessie's clients were HER clients....that's a WHOLE LOT of people that she hasn't informed that she is no longer doing hair in NY...

Maybe it's a legal thing...when I figure out my calendar before i think of making an appointment...I definitely want to ask her this.

Did you just say three hundred (300) dollars?? Girl, you better take your butt up to NYC and let Dickey do your hair. I'll PM you the info if you're interested.

ETA: I don't think I would let a drop of water touch my head for the next year if I had a 300 dollar hair-do.

I knew I spelled courteous wrong. It didn't look right to me. Thanks for the info!

Well, I have been hesitant in going to NY because...well... it seems too dang busy with nothing truly exciting to do (I love amusement parks, not into much sight seeing, shopping, etc) so Washington sounds like a great spot because it sounds like Philly to me and I love Philly. It seems a little more homey than NY and probably nicer :look:

Miko and her sister have a great reputation with cutting curly/wavy heads of hair, plus I know I will be paying for the atmosphere because they only allow their clients in the shop and no one else. It seems so much more professional and upscale, which is why I don't think I'll mind paying the $$$. Heck if she does a good job, I will be coming to Washington twice a year.

$200 hair cut...hmmm. It may be worth it especially since I did my bc myself....lol I may need to get my job back for this!

Well you have to do the math. How much does it normally cost for a cut? $50 to $75 bucks? If you go 4 times a year it equals out of course if you only need to go once a year for a Curve cut. But you are paying for other intrinsic things not just someone touching your head. You are paying for expertise, professionalism, no double booking and someone getting you IN and OUT and valuing your time.

And let's face it $300 is discretionary income for many especially if you have paid yourself first so why not splurge and treat yourself? Some people spend it on furniture, some on shoes, some on excellent cuts. Do you.

I agree with this. I only go to the salon 2 to 3 times a year. The service that I received at the salon was above what I've received at any other salon I've gone to in the past. It was definitely worth it for me...of course, I wouldn't complain if the prices dropped ;)

I'm still salty though she didn't inform her clients of her move...so I don't know :(

this is such great news!!! My folks stay in DC!!! I hope to make an appt sometime for the spring, hopefully i'll be at BSL by then. This wll make a great B'day gift! Thanks for the info!

I don't know why there's so much hype over this angle-balance cut. All anyone has to do is find a stylist that has been doing hair since the 80's and tell them they want one of those MC lyte, early salt-n-pepa cuts on wet hair and voila!!! The curve angle balance. That's all it looks like to me. :look:

That's what I was wondering about. So Miko did the cuts and color most of the time? I wasn't sure which one did what. Looks like DC got the best end of that deal

But if you look at the bottom of the ad it says she's there until the renovation is complete ... is it possible that it means she will be returning to NYC since the original Miss Jessie's is under renovation?

TRUST me I have been natural since 1994....there are NOT many stylists that can cut natural hair into a decent shape that grows out beautifully into that shape.

She was the ONLY one in the salon that performed these services.

I always wanted to go to Dickey. I love the book "Hair Rules" he wrote and the various styles of natural celebs that he has done.
