Miss Jessie's Miko is "Shingling" in DC!

Well you have to do the math. How much does it normally cost for a cut? $50 to $75 bucks? If you go 4 times a year it equals out of course if you only need to go once a year for a Curve cut. But you are paying for other intrinsic things not just someone touching your head. You are paying for expertise, professionalism, no double booking and someone getting you IN and OUT and valuing your time.

And let's face it $300 is discretionary income for many especially if you have paid yourself first so why not splurge and treat yourself? Some people spend it on furniture, some on shoes, some on excellent cuts. Do you.

Cosigning!

Remember ladies, you wear your hair EVERY SINGLE DAY. Unlike clothes, shoes, purses etc. :p

I don't know why there's so much hype over this angle-balance cut. All anyone has to do is find a stylist that has been doing hair since the 80's and tell them they want one of those MC lyte, early salt-n-pepa cuts on wet hair and voila!!! The curve angle balance. That's all it looks like to me. :look:

Sooooooo....you're saying I gotta MC lyte/salt -n-pepa hair cut?

LOL, it's all good.

Maybe Miko and Titi got into it and are are going their seperate ways.

NEways, I'm glad Miko's coming down closer to my neck of the woods.

I agree with this. I only go to the salon 2 to 3 times a year. The service that I received at the salon was above what I've received at any other salon I've gone to in the past. It was definitely worth it for me...of course, I wouldn't complain if the prices dropped ;)

i used to go years ago
last visit was 2004
i loved the atmosphere and everything
i only got cuts and highlights
miko was a little scissor happy w/ me
but i always left w/ cheesy grin
she does the best cuts
when the prices went up i started going 2 skilz in bk (gina)
no i do my hair myself and color @ aveda
so interesting about this move:cool:

my last few visits @ curve...

I think I may try him...I work in midtown, so the location is convienient...but I'm always worried about letting someone new touch my hair. I haven't heard a bad thing about Dickey yet, so I think I'll take the risk. If it doesn't work out, then I'll just have to start planning trips to DC (if Miko does not return to NY).

I might just do the trip to NY or DC :D I would really like Miko to do my big chop.

Would you consider it excessive to come from Paris just for a hair cut :p ??

Interesting......I'm going to do a drive by tonight-that's close to my neighborhood. I'm considering transitioning, I was natural before and I loved it. Does anyone have experience with her during the transitioning process? Two strand twist sets got me through transitioning last time with no problems.

Not if you got it like that. Can't nobody judge you and how you sh/ spend your hard-earned money.

Jenteel, when you went, were you texturized or natural?

Genteel your ole pics from Curve are nice. I like your color too.
I told my ole stylist about the angle cut I was considering. She laughed and said your hair already grows like that, leave that bush alone girl.
I guess I'll hold out unless my hair shape changes as it grows out some more.
Curves is going to get my cash no matter what. I think they are worth it if it works for you and your budget. Those tubs of product goes a long way too. :)

my hair grows very similar to the angle cut .... But one time someone commented in my old album and asked if I got my hair services done at curve :look:....that was enough to tell me to save my $$$$$. If I look the part I'll defnitley act it  But if someone offered curve as a b-day gift Id do it in a heart beat :)

Hey I agree with you - if you already have the look then GO WIT IT. I ain't so blessed! My joint will grow out on its own in a shag. Now when shag cuts come back in style - then I will be aight - until then - I gotta get my stuff shaped up just right.

LOL! Dickey is not white, he is a light-skinned black man. You can find out where about the salon he works at on www.hairrules.com. From what I have seen in his book and what others have said, he does a very good job on natural hair no matter the texture.

He works at OC61. And yes, he does hair himself. Although someone else usually shampoos my hair.

There was a post on naturallycurly from someone saying that she had talked to one of the sisters( Miko, I think). Anyway, she stated that they have decided to go there seperate ways and she would now be doing business in DC. I'll see if I can find that thread.

I spoke with Miko's recepcionist and she stated, that Miko is in DC temporarily. Who knows what is going on.

i've never had a texturizer or "silkener" as they call it
my hair is/was natural -7.5 years and yes i'm proud of that;)
miko cut my hair(highlighted in the first pic) and did the "shingling" method

when i first used to go to curve they charged $100-125(eons ago) dec 2003
my last visit i paid $200 (this was a few days before $225) august 2004
that was it for me-i don't have it like that:lol:
i trim my own hair now:D

thanks for the compliments ladies!!
ayeshia ur hair is fabulous and yes it does grow like a curve cut!!!
firecracker u r lucky it grows like that also
like u guys said if u can afford it - do it!
if not find a knock off (skilz, dickey)!
i started going to skilz in bk afterwards
and now i just keep up the shape myself
people are way 2 scissor happy w/ my hair!!!

I"m surprised no one in DC has been to Miko yet. Well I'm gonna call this week and find out about setting up a consult. I will come back and update later this week.

Did you set up a consult Sunshine?

One of my friends in D.C. has been dying to go and I gave her the number. She called but Miko told her it would be 425.00 for the silkener so she declined.

Well with my schedule and my latest failed attempt at starting locs, I am just going to stick with my tried and true - Clarke-Morley salon in Baltimore, MD b/c she cuts naturally kinky and curly hair wonderfully and for $45 bucks. I can't even get down to DC to meet up with friends so I just need to abandon the idea of getting to see Miko firsthand for a shape and cut.
