  • Random notes: Any particular product or details about your regimen/hair you want to share? I don't go to hair salons, I never use heat, and I keep manipulation to a minimum. I avoid hairstyles that stress my hair, like too-tight ponytails or buns. I never comb my hair after it is dry; I fingercomb only. I cover my hair at bedtime with a satin bonnet. Once per week, I wash, DC and rollerset. I sleep in my rollersets, allowing them to airdry overnight. I really try to keep it simple.

How much does your hair grow a month: In some areas I think about 3/4th of an inch I'm not really sure though my growth rate is super uneven.
  • Your biggest hair problem: (breakage, dryness, etc.) Combo of shedding (my life is hella stressful) and dryness.
  • Solution, if you've found one: Weekly protein of some sort has helped a lot. Also I moisturize lightly at least every day. More heavily every few days. And I stopped using Pantene products those do not agree with my hair at all.
  • Favorite shampoo and why: Nature's Gate shampoos. They are very gentle and never leave my hair feeling overly stripped or fragile.
  • Favorite conditioner and why: Lekair Cholesterol. It is my go to product. I can DC overnight with it, in a pinch use it to keep fly aways down, I use it as the base for my concoctions. Have used it for years and it always does the trick.
  • Daily moisturizer: Profectiv mega growth/little bit of the purple one.
  • Fave random hair product: This all natural body butter I have. When my ends/length feel too dry I will coat them with that and baggy overnight. The next day my hair is super silky and shiny. But everyday makes my hair mushy,
  • Fave Relaxer: Ors No lye- regular strength.
  • Best hair tip: Be nice to your hair.
  • What's product/vitamin/technique gives you the most growth? So far it's been my combo of multi vit, MSM, fish oil.

  • How do you wear your hair daily: Puffy bun type thing.
  • Random notes: Any particular product or details about your regimen/hair you want to share My big discovery lately is that I get far less breakage from putting my hair up at night by changing the position of my little ponytails and moving the knot of my wrap around. It's made a huge difference.

I've learned so much from this board and figure this would be a good reference especially for newbies, and a great way to quickly reference the regimens of my/our favorite members. I suspect I will have a huge wishlist after reading everyone's answers. Just copy and paste then fill in your own answers or hit the "quote" box under this post.

  • Favorite conditioner and why: Don't have a favorite there yet, leaning towards the Suave super moisturizing ones though.
  • Daily moisturizer: I have a daily spritz that I have made that I use and really really like. I use it everyday and have been making it for the past 9-10 months or so.
  • Fave random hair product: Don't have one. Really like the Indian products thought
  • Fave Relaxer: Don't have one

  • How do you wear your hair daily: It depends, I get bored easily, but twists seem to be how I wear my hair the most unless I am in the mood for a 3/4 wig

  • Hair type and length: 3 something, a little beyond waist length
  • How much does your hair grow a month: very little  1 centimeter or so
  • Your biggest hair problem: (breakage, dryness, etc.): none, right now.
  • Solution, if you've found one: I found a solution to breakage which used to be my problem and it is Finger combing :)
  • Favorite shampoo and why: any moisturizing shampoo, no brand
  • Favorite conditioner and why: right now I love John Frieda Frizz Ease Straight conditioner. It doesn't make my hair straight, but it's very moisturizing and makes it easy to detangle my hair. Any detangling, moisturizing conditioner will do.
  • Daily moisturizer: Africa's Best Carrot Oil
  • Fave random hair product: Olive Oil and Jojoba Oil
  • Fave Relaxer: None, my hair is natural
  • Best hair tip: Leave you hair alone as much as possible
  • What's product/vitamin/technique gives you the most growth?: Finger combing and a simple regimen
  • What's gives you the most shine?: My hair will never be super shiny, so I've given up on that :D
  • How do you wear your hair daily: a pony tail or down or a bun

  • Hair type and length: My hair type varies, I have 3c on the top, 4a surrounding that, and 4b on the very edges and in patches in my kitchen. My hair is 2 inches past shoulder length, and I have some bangs that are just now getting to my chin.
How much does your hair grow a month: My hair typically gains between 3/4 in and 1 in a month. If I exercise more often and eat right, and am stress free I tend to get more growth, but typically I have never had a problem with my hair growing slow.
  • Your biggest hair problem: (breakage, dryness, etc.) My big problem is that it is hard to grow my bangs out to get my hair at one length because my edges are a different texture (my front edges are dull frizzy fine strands of 4a that break easily and my side edges next to my ear are thick 4b that are shiny & course and stand up to anything) from the rest of my hair. My kitchen is the same as my side edges, so it grows a little slow too.
  • Solution, if you've found one: Transitioning has helped because my delicate hair in the front is healthier without relaxers, so now my bangs are slowly getting longer and catching up. My kitchen and side edges are really strong, thick and course, so I have texturized them to blend in with the rest of my hair for now because it is too short (2.5 in). When it is long enough to put back into my pony (4-5 inches), I will start to transition my kitchen to natural again. I think the courser the hair on my head, the harder it is to take care of while its short, so I have texlaxed my kitchen and I may texlax my side edges as well until I am ready to grow them out.
  • Favorite shampoo and why: I have never really been fond of shampoos, but Garnier Fructis Sleek N Shine smelled OK..
  • Favorite conditioner and why: Garnier Fructis Long & Strong helps me retain length and keep my hair shiny and strong, and Dove Moisturizing shampoo helps keep my hair extra moist and soft.
  • Daily moisturizer: either I use Cantu Break Cure, Garnier Fructis Sleek N Shine Smoothing Milk, or my Oil spray I made, it has EVOO, CO, Grapeseed Oil, Aloe Vera gel, Almond Oil, Glycerin, Carrot Oil, Kemi Oyl, and water
  • Fave random hair product: Cantu Shea Butter Break Cure
  • Fave Relaxer: Never had one, I always got what was cheap. But Dr. Miracle was OK the one time I forked over the cash for it. However, I dont relax anymore and if I texturize/texlax I plan to use a Lye relaxer
  • Best hair tip: Only shampoo if you hair is Dirty, Never use too much products when you straighten, and dont be afraid to use a product just because theres not a pic of a black lady on the bottle. Garnier Fructis really does work!
  • What's product/vitamin/technique gives you the most growth? Garnier Fructis, washing every 2-3 days, massassing my scalp when I condition, only shampooing when I need to, and NOT greasing my scalp ever again. I have learned that trimming my hair is what got me length before, and as soon as I start slacking on my trimming, my hair starts splitting out of control. I have to trim every 3 months or so if I want length.
  • What's gives you the most shine? Cowashing, GF Sleek N Shine Smoothing Milk, and some kind of glosser (Silk Elements polishing glosser right now, but used to be Biosilk) or my oil spray.
  • How do you wear your hair daily: Brushed back in a ponytail under a wave cap, or straightened and down. Typically Ill straighten for 2 days then wear my hair up one day before washing, but now that I am growing my hair out I will wear it up most of the time and down once in a while.
  • Random notes: Any particular product or details about your regimen/hair you want to share? I gravitate toward that green section in Walmart because Garnier fructis really is my favorite line. Biosilk used to do it for me but it was so expensive! If youre not afraid of those silly rumors that the vitamin C will strip your perm or that cones are bad for you, I highly recommend it. The stuff is amazing and I am always trying everything new they come up with. I am counting down the days until my transition is over so that I can use their curly hair line!!! :drunk: My hair loves cones, and Garnier Fructis loves my hair. Plus that fruity smell has become irresistible to me

How much does your hair grow a month: No clue.... 1/3 inch? 1/2 inch? Nothing exciting.
  • Your biggest hair problem: (breakage, dryness, etc.) Dryness
  • Solution, if you've found one: Baggying nightly, deep conditioning weekly
  • Favorite shampoo and why: N/A
  • Favorite conditioner and why: For cowashing, any of the cheapies. For deep treatments/weekly conditioning Elasta QP Intense Fortifying Moisturizing Conditioner - I love it because it's rich, it leaves my hair feeling strong and silky, and it has no cones/petroleum products in it.
  • Daily moisturizer: In my mister - 1 part Elasta, 3 parts glycerin, 1/2 part oil (whatever I'm in the mood for), fill with water.
  • Fave random hair product: My horn comb - it detangles like nothing else!
  • Fave Relaxer: N/A
  • Best hair tip: Ignore the bandwagons. First, determine what your hair NEEDS - then find the products that best fill that need, then come up with a schedule of use. It makes taking care of your hair 'right' a no-brainer.
  • What's product/vitamin/technique gives you the most growth? Much love, more moisture, even more protection.
  • What's gives you the most shine? Henna!!
  • How do you wear your hair daily: Either in flat twists, or out in a fro.
  • Random notes: Any particular product or details about your regimen/hair you want to share? Henna is my HEART!! I don't know what state my hair would be in if I hadn't found it, but it's one thing in my regimen that will NEVER change.

~Hair type and length: 4b, fine; base of the neck, layered bob
~How much does your hair grow a month: Not sure, but it grows.
~Your biggest hair problem: (breakage, dryness, etc.) dryness, mild breakage; perhaps due to lack of moisture/porosity
~Solution, if you've found one: Shampooing and deep conditioning hair, and keeping hair and scalp clean; using a good leave-in and serum - still experimenting
~Favorite shampoo and why: Nexxus Therappe; it's really moisturizing. I am about to try Mizani Botanifying
~Favorite conditioner and why: KeraCare Humetco; it's really moisturizing, and gives good slip. I have been using Mizani Moisturefuse for approx. two years. It's good, but I like Humetco better for the aforementioned reasons.
~Daily moisturizer:n/a. I apply the KeraCare High Sheen Glossifier for Dry and Itchy Scalp sparingly to my scalp after I air dry my hair, and, if needed, I re-apply between shampoos.
~Fave random hair product:??? Not sure what this means.
~Fave Relaxer: Right now I wear Mizani. It's good, but I believe Affirm is better, which is what I wore previously. I also liked the Motions relaxer. My very first relaxer was a Gentle Treatment. I then wore a relaxer, of which the name is unknown to me; it was most likely a Paul Mitchell relaxer. I then moved on to Creme of Nature, and then Dudley.
~Best hair tip: *Maintain good nutrition, drink plenty of fresh water, and monitor blood and iron levels.*
~What's product/vitamin/technique gives you the most growth? I do take a multi-vitamin, but for the purpose of my health, and not for the purpose of growing hair.
~What's gives you the most shine? KeraCare High Sheen Glossifier for Dry and Itchy Scalp.
~How do you wear your hair daily:In all of its layered glory. If it's unbearably hot and humid, or, if I am doing domestic chores around the apartment, then I put it up in a loose ponytail.
~Random notes: Any particular product or details about your regimen/hair you want to share? I shampoo and deep condition every four days - something new with which I am experimenting. I also apply a hair dress sparingly to my scalp. I found applying product to my hair weighed it down and actually made it look and feel drier. I air dry, and then apply moderate heat via a flat iron or a blow dryer set on medium-low temperature. Given the layers, my hair actually looks better when dried with a blow dryer.

**This is not part of the original survey, but, I would like to learn how to use a round brush and blow dryer to style my hair. The day spa where I get my hair cut and styled provides a one-on-one clinic to its clients. I may pursue this.

--Hair type and length:
4B, front=just past jaw length, sides=shoulder length, back=just scraping BSL, but I’m not claiming it yet. (My hair grows at different rates and in tails, you see.)

--How much does your hair grow a month:
.5 inches front and sides, and about .75 inches in the back

--Your biggest hair problem: (breakage, dryness, etc.)
Dryness and porosity. I have very porous hair.

--Solution, if you've found one:
Leave ins! I use Salerm 21 or NTM Silk Touch Leave-In. Once my hair is dry, I swear by S-Curl and protective styles.

--Favorite shampoo and why:
I think it changes weekly, but I love CON green and Terax Miele.

--Favorite conditioner and why:
Only one? Hmmm… ORS Replenishing Packs consistently gives me great results. It makes my hair very soft and moisturized after every deep conditioning.

--Daily moisturizer:
S-Curl!

--Fave random hair product:
TIGI Ego Boost Split End Mender. I hardly have any split ends anymore, so I don’t have to trim. Now, nothing can actually fix a split, but it totally prevents them.

--Fave Relaxer:
Phyto Specifics Index I.

--Best hair tip:
Phony ponies are great protective styles, especially with the baggy technique.

--What's product/vitamin/technique gives you the most growth?
Protective styling, no heat outside of a hood dryer for deep conditioning and setting, very little manipulation, and moisturizing with S-Curl daily.

--What's gives you the most shine?
I don’t use heated appliances on my hair, but I found Silk Elements Heat Protectant Spray (From Sally’s), is excellent and smells nice too. It’s a non-oily liquid that works like a charm.

--How do you wear your hair daily:
Either a phony pony or a half wig. My hair is rarely exposed to the elements.

--Random notes: Any particular product or details about your regimen/hair you want to share?
Did I mention S-Curl? :lachen:No, really. Once I started using it, all of my breakage and growth issues disappeared. My hair is much stronger too. The only caveat is it has a particular smell some people don’t like, it is not a product for people that like their hair straight, it can build up and make your hair feel odd if used excessively. But, I wouldn’t trade it for anything. The benefits far outweigh the negatives.

Also, roller sets are excellent!!!

Hair type and length:
4b, with some 4a, Couple inches past Shoulder length

How much does your hair grow a month:
1/2 inch

Your biggest hair problem: (breakage, dryness, etc.)
Dryness, and breakage! hair wont hold curl.

Solution, if you've found one:
For the dryness, keep consistently washing hair once a week, if needed more, apply moisturizer every other day, seal with light oil..
When my hair is wet i apply grease to the length of the hairand this has decreased breakage..
Holding a curl.. trim every 2 months? This is a work in progress as i dont know if this is the culprit of the problem

Favorite shampoo and why:
Pantene Relaxed & natural

Favorite conditioner and why:
Hollywood Beauty Carrot Deep conditioning treatment.. just because it has strengthened my hair tremedously and moisturizes it. I only used this, but i just bought a new one, who knows the Organics hair mayo may turn out to be my fav!

Daily moisturizer:
I dont moisturize daily cause my hair cant take a lot of product.. once every other day will suffice
Hollywood beauty carrot oil root moisturizer.. and spritzing of water.. a little spritzing of my spray on leave in

Fave random hair product:
wonder 8 gro oil

Fave Relaxer:
Silk Elements

Best hair tip:
AIRDRY, keep manipulation at a minimum, and keep ends healthy by dusting when necessary!

What's product/vitamin/technique gives you the most growth?
I take flinstones lol! But when I leave my hair alone, like keep it in a bun for a couple days then take down to just massage and moisturize and put it back up, my hair got much healthier and breakage was low to none

What's gives you the most shine?
any Oil, or Optimum Micro-Oil creme [which i hardly use]

How do you wear your hair daily:
I`ve being doing a lot of sew ins.. sometimes i`ll bun it, sometimes i`ll put it in a ponytail or let it down when i have a fresh relaxer

Random notes: Any particular product or details about your regimen/hair you want to share?
No not really its all covered!

  • Hair type and length: Type 4a/b--Full Shoulder length
How much does your hair grow a month: Not sure but I'd say 1/4 to 1/2 inch.
  • Your biggest hair problem: (breakage, dryness, etc.)--Currently, I would say dry scalp but overall at this time my hair is doing well.
  • Solution, if you've found one: Avedas Scalp Benefits line! I love it!
  • Favorite shampoo and why: Aveda Sap Moss leaves my hair very soft after washing. I just love the way it makes my hair feel even before conditioning.
  • Favorite conditioner and why: Aveda Sap Moss and Abba Scentsational Conditioners. They are both great and give me superior moisture.
  • Daily moisturizer: I use avocado and jojoba butter (very lightly) on my edges and ends mainly. I put a teeny tiny amount throughout my hair. I then seal with jojoba oil about 3 days per week.
  • Fave random hair product: Prive Detailing Pomade. Great for holding edges down. It's conditioning and non drying and smells great.
  • Fave Relaxer: My stylist uses Mizani. She last used the Butter Blend. So far Mizani has been good for my hair.
  • Best hair tip: Invest in a great everyday(instant) conditioner, deep conditioner and leave in conditioner. Moisturizing ones and Protein ones. Purchase all 3 in each category.
  • What's product/vitamin/technique gives you the most growth? Wearing Protective styles. I wear my hair up at least 4 days per week. I'd say moisturizing and wearing the protective style truly helps my hair grow. Less manipulation, less breakage. Also Rollersetting. I don't do heat styling at all any longer.
  • What's gives you the most shine? This is something that I believe comes from the inside out. I think drinking lots of water, taking good vitamins (including Omega 3's), eating well, exercising. All give you great shiny hair from the inside. The natural 'shine' is the best shine IMO.
  • How do you wear your hair daily: I wear a 'bob' style with a side swept bang when I have meetings with clients or other business. However, if I'm going to be in for the day. I just wear my hair up in a bun or clipped up. I will do a nice side swept bang to keep it professional and cute but I wear the rest up.
  • Random notes: Any particular product or details about your regimen/hair you want to share? What works for one person won't work for everyone. Find what works for you. I don't think a person needs a lot of potions to make their hair grow. Keep your routine simple. Don't switch products often. If something works for you and your hair stick with it. Give products time to work. If you are switching products often you really will not know what is working or not working for you. Also, if you can, use the entire line of a product (shampoo and conditioner in particular). I've found this to be best for me and my hair. It seems that entire lines work very well together and they don't work so well if they are used separately with products from other lines. This way you can really see results.
  • Give yourself good scalp massages 2-3 times per week. I do this and my scalp loves it. I use my favorite Ylang Ylang oil mixed with jojoba oil to do my massages. Use the pads of your fingers and focus on your difficult areas.
  • Also, get a Pibbs dryer or other good professional dryer if you can! It will save you time and be less harsh on your hair because you can adjust the temperature and the air is distributed evenly over your hair.
Great thread!
