It's so annoying to me. Almost every single show that does a makeover, if the person (white or black) has textured hair, they burn the ish out of it. Why not work with what they obviously prefer? It's so stupid.

Here's one I saw coming a mile away on Oprah's page:

And a :nono: goes to the airbrushing... Come on!

I think it's for the *POW* effect. True, you can do a makeover and maintain the natural state of the hair. But it wouldn't be as interesting/dramatic. :)

Mmmm, it is annoying sometimes, but I think it is just to create a huge contrast and for dramz.

Like if someone has very long straight hair, they will cut it off. Or dark hair, they will make it lighter. Or blunt hair - layer it or make it asymmetrical....

I think it is just to make the makeover as dramatic-looking as possible.

OT: That's a HEAVY piece she has on her neck!

Yeah, that bugs me too. And that's why I will probably never do one. If someone insist they cut my hair after I've worked so hard on it-whether it be APL or better-the only thing that will get cut off is their fingers!!! Don't cut my hair. And say thing for color. If I wanted some color heifer, I'd have it already. I don't need to go on some GD makeover show for some color!! Go away already!

I understand the drama effect, but people like Nick from What Not to Wear improves those women tenfold and almost never straightens.

And about this Oprah picture, if you go the link, she's the only one with a "dramatic" hairstyling texture change.

Next time, I want to see someone with stick straight hair get a poodle perm.

you know who doesnt do that, Nick Arojo (i think thats how his named is spelled) on TLC's what not to wear. When people have naturally curly/wavy hair, like 90% of the time he shows them what curly product to use and shows them how to dry it using a diffuser or something. sometimes the hair looks a mess, IMO but i appreciate that he does that.

ETA: sooooo of course me being impatient, i didn't read your last post and realized that you already mentioned it. way to make me feel stupid.

:lachen::lachen::lachen: That would be too funny!

I always get annoyed that Tyra always cuts at least ONE sistah's hair all off on ANTM each year. (But that's a diff. thread. :lachen:) It wouldn't be me tho! :nono:

Yeah that's why I would probably never go on most shows like that. You are not messing up all this progress I've made. Q

I also think it is for dramatic affect. Besides people that usually have curly hair , wear it like that everyday, so they want them to see how different and pretty it can look if it is straight. I don't like when people that have curly hair before a makeover still have curly hair after, it is kind of boring unless they cut it or something.

same here, you won't catch me getting a makeover anytime soon for that reason.

I was watching the show 'shear genius' on bravotv, and i thought it was so interesting that one ladies from housewives of orange county, said "I don't want anything sharp to touch my hair." A makeover doesn't have to involve a short short cut

I've seen Nick Arrojo straighten curly hair before, but his main thing is being scissor happy; he knows how to really cut off length from a woman's hair.
