Macherie's Blowin' in the Wind Challenge - No Heat for 4 Months!

I'm in. I want to grow my hair to APL. I have been using too much heat latley. I do plan on using heat for a deep conditioning. Does that count?

Since wearing PS, I have been using no heat! I am soo happy about this. My hair def feels more healthy. I will be getting a sew in with wet and wavy hair. So hopefully that really reduces heat on my own hair. I say, I'm in!

Unfortunately it doesn't. You can deep-condition without heat. Just slap a plastic cap on overnight or at least for a few hours. Let it sit while you do stuff around the house.

I just want to make sure I understand the rules. Are you saying you can't or can use heat to deep condition on this challenge?

Can not use heat. :ohwell: There are plenty ladies that DC without heat. I started this about 2 months ago and it works just as well with having a hot hat beating on your shoulders. My hair is softer after as well. Air drying in a bun or with rollerset works too.

Macherie put away her Pibbs and her hair is doing fine. I think we can pull this off.

Thanks for clarifying that. I completely misunderstood this. The only time I use heat is for dcing under my soft bonnet dryer. I was unintentionally cheating and didn't even know it. I will give the no heat dc a try and I guess I can also work up my own heat and dc while I'm doing my cardio on my bike since I am on that thing for at least 45 minutes to an hour.:yep:

Click pics to see larger...This is my hair after I: 1) co-washed at night with V05, leaving a little conditioner as a leave in and HE LTR leave-in only on the ends, 2) air dried loose until 85% dry (~2.5 hours), and 3) rolled ends with 5 large flexirods and slept in overnight. Also, the flexirods weren't that comfortable for me to sleep in:nono:...I can't see doing this but once a week or two at the most...

When I woke up the next morning, I just fluffed and finger combed curls and this was the style I got.

It's aiight, but I like my hair a little more "formed" and my curls weren't as smooth as I would have like bc I still had a little airdrying to do the next morning. Ummm...how long is it taking for most folks' hair to airdry?:perplexed

It's summer time anyway, though, so I RARELY wear my hair on my neck and down unless it's a special occasion. It's just too doggone hot and humid in TX for me to do that ... so I ended up putting up in a hairzing. I'll also use other non stress hair accessories (flexi8's etc.) and wear updos and buns mostly.

I do love the look of an updo with curls, though....It's like "an updo on purpose...":lachen:

Your body heat is perfect for DC. Good luck!

What about steam heat? Is that heat ruled out, too?

Your up do is cutie. It takes me overnight and a few hours to dry in a bun. I wear a bun everyday.

Your updo is very cute!

I'm loving this No Heat Challenge. Its freeing knowing that you don't have to carve out time to straighten your hair or go to the salon.:drunk:

Another source of heat to use for somewhat cheating that will happen anyway is in the shower. DC before you shower and put that baggie on and enjoy your steaming shower.

I forgot to post my regiment

  • 2 Co Washes Weekly
  • 3 DC weekly (warm up DC treatment in microwave then apply on hair and use body heat + plastic cap + towel for 20 minutes of protein followed by 20 min moisture) Works out great!!
  • 1 Poo weekly
  • Moisturize/Seal 2x every Day
  • Bun Baggy, Bantu Knots, Rollersets, Flexirods (All airdry)
  • Clarify Bi-weekly
  • Aubrey Organics & Giovanni
I'm so loving this challenge. Although I know I will have one pass used on July 5th as I am using a Cellophane at time of retouch under my hooded dryer but other than that no heat

Good Luck to all the Ladies, I know we are all going to greatly benefit from no heat. Let's Go!!!:spinning:

I love this no heat. I started using castor oil and my hair feels so soft. I am transitioning to texlax from bone-straight and you should see the bling and waves in my hair. I'll post pictures later.

Who is everyone else doing?

Dont forget to post your no-heat styles....

Ouch! I guess I'm going to have to drop out of this challenge then. I always use heat with my DCs. I can't remember if it was part of the Cathy Howse method or not but since I learned about it I can't do without my heated DCs. Sorry ladies. :(

Good luck to the rest of you!!

I am using a pass today.

I am henna'ing and indigo'ing my hair. I am going to be using alot of indirect heat and maybe a little direct heat. I havent decided.

I am so excited to get that beautiful blue-black hair.

My process:
Apply henna paste
DC with heat for 2 hours
Apply indigo paste
Plastic cap and heat for 1 hour
Apply moisture, oil, leave-in, OCT
Style hair: I dont know whether to let rest or straighten.
