life ain't easy!!
HI ladies once again i'm asking another ?. Ok I use motions lye relaxer and it is wonderful. Now I used Dark N Lovely from the age 7 till about 17 and it was the bomb too.

I switched to lye at about age 17- 18 because a hair dresser told me it was better for your hair. My only thing is I don't see a difference in my hair. My hair has always been long and healthy even when I was young.

My problem is buying lye relaxers are expensive you have to buy the relaxer, poo, and con, all the time is it runes me about 15- 20 dollars.

I was thinking about just switching back to Dark N lovely because I can just buy the box and get it over with ( and its cheaper).

Please help me out maybe with some pros and cons????? SOMETHING !!!

Hi there! If I were you,I would stick to the lye relaxers. There is a difference in the chemicals between lye and no-lye relaxers; my hairdresser (she has a bachelor's in chemistry along with her cosmetology liscense) told me that the sodium based (no-lye) never really straightens your hair as well as lye, and that is affects the porosity and ph negatively. So, you end up wanting to relax again very soon, and the hair frizzes often. I have also read in the Shamboosie book that you will probably experience breakage, and to correct this with a LYE relaxer.

Around here in Atlanta, I can always tell a no-lye (box perm) head when I see it (or I am pretty sure, anyway). These girls are always looking very dry, no matter how much oil and grease is piled on. I really think you should get lye. I've always had lye (Affirmfiberguard these days) and my hair is now at bra strap.

I hope this is helpful!

My hair looked dry when I used no-lye relaxers. My stylist switched to using lye relaxers on my hair a few years ago. I will never go back to no-lye. :nono:

i used no lye for 9 years and just recently switched to lye this year. for me no lye was great, straightened beautifully, always left my hair silky and shiny(beautiful beginnings). now that i've switched to lye i'm having a problem with underprocessed hair. i havent found the right lye relaxer yet. the only reason im sticking to lye is b/c i know it's better for the health of your hair. hopefully i find the right relaxer soon. but no lye was good to me.

My God....maybe ill have a problem with trying to find the lye relaxer that will work for me too. I have used no-lye for 6 years and when i wanted to switch to lye, i used revlon relaistic mild and my hair didnt relax. I will be trying motions next time and i hope it will work this time. Decided to change cos i have problems with dry hair
