I think for super sleek hair, you may want to consider changing the order of the gels. Have you tried putting on the Doux Bee Girl Custard first and then Wet Line Xtreme? It seems the Doux Bee is more moisturizing than Wet Line and would give an extra wonderful layer of moisture before sealing with the Wet Line.

I tried changing the order of the gels like you said and I ended up with smoother shinier hair with all the hold. I will continue doing this because my hair wasnt as shiny as it is now when I put the custard last. The Hawaiian silky prevents flakes from forming which is a bonus too..

Congratulations on another success ! And, thank you for letting me know as I very much appreciate the positive feedback.

This wig length below is 24 inches. Doesn't this look very similar to @Lylddlebit 's fabulous length she showed us around Easter time?
Twenty Four Inches.png

@Lylddlebit from the middle of your top part to your ends, Girl, are you close to 24 inches, too? If not twenty-four you got to be at least 20 to 22 inches, right?

Pssst....ahm...I was wondering...if you could ahm....measure that long, luscious length and report back. What do you say, hmmm?

I don't mind. You are right on the money! If I make the tape measure parallel to the top of my hair and measure from top of my head to ends, it is 25 inches, right now(not the top of had to ends but where the crown angles down on my head). My shortest sections are 18 inches right behind my edges and in the back. Most of my hair is between 20-22 inches from roots to ends, right now.

Here you go! Please excuse the awkward angle I was trying to get root and end on the tape measure without stretching it with my hands so you can see the way the length naturally falls on a press that is close to 2 weeks old.

LHCF Bun Dropping Season in December 2023

Depending on the status of my ends I might do a bun drop. I dont want to do a bun drop with raggedy ends! I am a bit scared of how they will look when i do my length check in June/July. I had so much breakage before I started using Jheri juice on my hair. It has been a real game changer for my retention. I want to measure how well the retention is though which is why i will probably give myself a good (well needed) trim during my next length check and monitor my retention till the end of the year.

I am no longer exclusively using Redken products. I have just a few more to use up from the rest of my stash. I liked them but frankly they are not meant for my type of hair. I am happier using my cheapie Proclaim products that I got from Sallys. I also want to revisit Salerm and La Brasiliana as salon brands but Ill probably wont buy new products for a while.

This works on damaged ends. If you consistently clean up the ends the times you notice they are out of shape they eventually become uniform and thick ends over time. It may not seem noticeable in the beginning, but if you check-in regularly ,and clean them up, as needed, they shape-up.

My ends still are chemically treated and I've been having pretty bad breakage. I have no idea what I'm working with ends wise. I did not get back into my groove until recently. I think I may need to do a deep trim. I also haven't trimmed my hair in a year so there's that too lol My ends werent terrible last length check though but the breakage wasn't as bad then.

That's some good advice and I will take it, ESPECIALLY coming from a lady who has real hair LONGER than a 24 inch wig! :toocool:

Also, I identify a goal length that I want. Either I am trimming the longest hair back to that point, or keeping the longest hairs AT that point, or not trimming anything until some hair reaches that point. Once the hair reaches my goal point, I keep trimming it until more hair drops down at that goal length. Once I get what I deem a significant amount of hair at that length, I stop trimming it back. Whenever I straighten my hair, I trim it.

A possible tool to assist in trimming those, Luscious Healthy Ends that we all are currently cultivating!

I came across through on DeeperThanHair's IG page. The hair color of the model is beyond magnificent. BUT ...it's the trimming tool she used that is ABSOLUTELY Ingenious!

She has a weighted vest. It has weights on a either side of the vest and they rest on your chest/breasts. The vests rests over the shoulders and lays flat against the back.

It is a length t-shirt combined with a weighted vest. I think this is an incredible tool to use to trim the hair. It allows for a blunt, straight across trim or cut and a curved U-shape cut. I love this.

I have one of these. I found it on Aliexpress. I haven’t used it yet though

I decided to try out not using the doux bee girl custard because I was in a rush last night. My hair did not set well at all and is very frizzy. That thin layer of bee girl custard real makes a difference. As long as I slick back my hair I will not be without it!

I have straightened my hair.
  • Clarified with Rusk Quillaja Shampoo (discontinued)
  • Shampoo Shu Umeura Ultimate Remedy Shampoo (...discontinued. I think the Ultimate Reset Line is supposed to be similar. It smells the same and I have products from the new line. I haven't tried them yet)
  • Applied K-18 leave in treatment to damp hair
  • Detangled hair after applying treatment then put my hair into bantu knots
  • Let treatment air dry into my hair overnight.
  • Apply Tresemme Heat Tamer heat protectant the next morning.
  • Blow Dry with Dyson supersonic Dryer using the comb attachment.
  • Straightened hair with FHI Runway 1 pass 370 (tested the Tymo Ring Plus on one small section 410)
  • Trimmed to even out all over.
My hair looks a lot thicker than December's photos but its about the same. December was a hard press on 450. This press was on the softer side at 370 with light leave-ins. That is the main difference. I am probably going to add deep waves or curls for Easter and am planning to press again in May. So, I did a softer press to offset the heat that is coming. I apologize for the bad lighting in some of the photos. LO was on ten and it took me way longer to finish my hair than it should have. I wasn't paying close enough attention to how the pictures came out until after I was done. Also, please excuse the different clothing. I was deciding what to wear today while doing my hair.
This is an oldish post, but curious what temp you usually straighten at? Do you alternate hard and soft presses? I am fascinated by the length you retain as a mostly straight haired natural

I had planned to post this. After the excitement of @Lylddlebit in her Hair Glory and gorgeousness, my photo will not be exciting. BUT, it represents
consistency. I wanted to post this for @Napp. I don't put gel on my hair passed my ears which is near where the ponytail holder is so that is fuzzy.

But, I have Eco Styler gel from my forehead hairline to a little past my ears. When I used shampoo, ALL of my hair would have been fuzzy. But since I stopped using shampoo and stressing and traumatizing my hair, Eco Styler lays down my hair now the same way Wet Line Gel used to do.

Edited to add:

I believe my hair is getting thicker since I stopped using shampoo! I especially noticed it around the hair line. Also, it feels like mink! I am just loving the look and feel of my hair since I stopped using shampoo and started using clay in my hair.

I straighten anywhere between 370 and 450. 450 is my default temperature, but I can get a bone straight press at 400. If I want a softer press I typically set it between 350-370(some gauges don't tell me exact temperature, on the ones that do I chose 370 for a soft press). I alternate between hard and soft presses when I straighten my hair successively from wash to wash. I typically spend half the year with my hair pressed straight... give or take a month or two. I typically alternate between straightened, stretched and natural styles.

I went 3 weeks without washing and when I washed my hair is dreaded up in the middle. IDK what caused it but I will go back to weekly washes. I also haven't been heavily using grease either so I don't know if that was the culprit. 3 weeks was entirely too long.

I am popping in to give my non-update update. I have still not been doing much with my hair, but I do have a micro-trim coming up next weekend. I have barely been moisturizing it, my washes have extended to a week-and-a-half... it's a mess over here. From the little that I can glean, my hair is doing alright. Looking forward to making some time to give it some proper TLC.
