Low Manipulation Challenge/hangout 2018 (braidouts, Twistouts, Bantu Knot-outs, Rollersets, Etc.)

Thank you for sharing your regimen and being so detailed. You just gave me a use for a refreshing spray that I have, I guess the trick is to spray just a little so as not to mess up the braidout set.

No problem! If you haven't tried one already, invest in a fine mist sprayer. Game changer.

I finally washed my hair (I was almost three weeks in). It feels soo good. I didn't have time to take my braids out this morning, so I'm wearing a head wrap today.

I really think the key for me is true "low" manipulation. Glad this thread is here. I'm gonna try a new sleeping method when I take these braids down and see if it preserves my hair even better than my personal method. If I like it, I'll report back.

so i started a flexirod set last night about 1.5 hours before i was supposed to meet a friend for happy hour. horrible idea
of course it didn't dry in time, but i ended up with a cute stretched fro.
since i have somewhere to go tonight, i set the stretched hair on flexirods again. we'll see what happens.

I did a wash n go yesterday at noon with Paul Mitchell The Conditioner and Eco Natural Curl Activating Gel (blue tub). It was still really wet in the back when I went to sleep at 10, so I banded in 3 sections (one on front right and two in the back). It's still wet in the back this morning, but it looks ok.

I banded my hair from the current Bronner Brothers gel wash and go into 7 strategically placed sections. Then in the morning I unbanded a section, tension blow dried the section, and did this until every section was done. I should have done it before my shower, because the shower steam shrank it a little.

But . . . you guys!!!!!!! I am in looooooooooove with my hair! I literally almost teared up when I realized "Wow! I love my hair!!!":lachen: I'm so serious (it's been a long hair journey with a lot of effort and expense).

I love Paul Mitchell as a leave-in, I bet your wash and go is super moisturized

This looks fantastic! You can cross "mastering the wash and go" off your list :yep:

Thanks! Yay!!! The only issue is that my hair feels very dry. I'm going to experiment with layering my whipped Shea butter beneath it, like some folks in that Shea butter growth thread do. I hope it doesn't prevent the crunchy cast I have and love and thus the elongation.

You wash n go is beautiful! I'm having an issue with dryness too ehen my hair finally does dry, especially in the front of my hair. My hair does not like whipped shea, so I need to find something else.

My hair is still holding up. This wng is so sturdy. I can see myself not doing my hair again for days.

I've gotta try this Bronner Brothers gel on a twist out and try re-elongating it every morning with the tension method, like I'm doing with this wng.

I'm still rocking the twist out pony. However I'm going on a beach day trip tomorrow so I switched to two flat twists. Still debating whether to pin them up. I'm really proud of this little hairstyle because it was one of my original goals when I first went natural, i.e. to be able to throw my hair in a no fuss style in 15 minutes. And now I can. :)

It also is inspiring me to keep up the growth. I would love the twists to hang longer than they do and from experience I know that will take a good few inches.

Current Hair Status (natural? relaxed? length?): 9 years natural 3c/4a or in the 4 type I love my natural hair and will not look back.
Styling Goals: Natural twists , braids and twist outs
Length Goals: currently APL if it grows longer great.
Current Routine: Wash , color and twist every 2 weeks / deep condish once a month and protien treatments every 8 weeks
Products: Beautiful Textures / IC hair polisher styling gel/ Aphogee for protien every 8 weeks
Why does low manipulation work for you? Oh my I live in Florida and the summer time my hair needs so much low manipulation in the cooler months I can wear twist outs so for me it really balances out
Pictures of your current styles (if you have them)

It's March 10th. That means this Bronner Brothers wash and go lasted for an entire week and looked good the whole time! Yay!

Layering that Shea Moisture manuka honey leave-in beneath the gel did decrease the dryness some.

My hair still felt dry this week, though, so I'm going to keep fiddling with my product combination until I get a moisturized wash and go with hard hold.

I might try:
  • Bronner Brothers Firm Hold Curling Gel over Jakeala Shea Amla Parfait (whipped Shea butter)
  • Shea Moisture manuka honey gel over nothing but water (I hear this gel flakes terribly when it flakes on folks)
  • ???

I had to leave town for a funeral and didn't get a chance to wash my hair before I left. Thankfully, my wash n go from last Sunday is still going strong, which surprised me. My family keeps complimenting my hair, so I need to do long term wash n goes more often.

To maintain at night, I band the right front section with a cut headband and band the rest in the back in two sections with two Satin scrunched each. I've used water (shower) or a water spritz with oil and a little leave-in to moisturize each day.

I keep trying to upload pictures, but I get an error. When I get home, I'll just post to my blog and upload that way.

Day 2
