Low Manipulation Challenge/hangout 2018 (braidouts, Twistouts, Bantu Knot-outs, Rollersets, Etc.)

... Ugh shrinkage...I don't think I will ever get used to it. My almost HL hair shrinks to my shoulders. I joined the no heat challenge so will be bunning, twist outs, and wash and go ponytails for the remainder of the summer. Trying to get to full HL by year end which is where I want to maintain. I would have to be knee length stretched to have MBL or WL curls. ...

I know just how you feel; we have very similar hair - most of mine is between waist and hip, with the longest strands around tailbone - but my shrinkage is just like yours,. I have my hair in a high ponytail today and I can consider it "protective styling" because my ends are above my ears. I've given up on ever showing length while curly; the most I can show is almost-APL if I do a bantu knot-out on dry hair, :nono:.

I think this is the best I can hope for inn the future if I ever get any substantial length.

Yessss that's about as long mine will go also is APL on dry hair. I'm about over my hair right now which is why I think I'll be in wash and go ponytails mostly.

just checking in...i have been doing mostly bunning because the heat and constant working out has me feeling like any "out" styles are a waste of time. i miss my cute braidouts so i might do one this weekend for my bridal shower.

I kind of feel like I’ve been failing at this challenge. I’ve been braiding my hair in two English braids, but the twist out part never seems to happen unless it’s wash day and I’m taking them down.

Still sounds like your low mani though which is good! I've been super hair lazy and can only seem to manage a bun these days. Anything else besides cleansing is more energy than I care to muster right now.

Tell me about it lol.

Espeacially at night, I’m just ready to go to bed.

Then in the morning, I try to wake up to give myself enough to get ready, and still rushing around like crazy

Bumping-I took some time off to get married and kinda forgot about this challenge smh lol. How is everyone doing? Still wearing low-manipulation styles?

I’m stuck on flexirod sets because I’m too busy right now to try styles that won’t work out. For some reason my braidouts have been very hot or miss lately, but my flexirods are always consistent.

Yesterday’s routine:
Shampoo with design essentials almond avocado shampoo
DC with silk elements deep conditioner and added castor oil to my hair and scalp.-then sat under the dryer. that addition of the castor oil was a keeper!!! My hair felt so soft and looked shiny.
Did my flexirod set with almond jai butter and Nairobi wrap foam. I thought this combo would be way too heavy and weird, but it worked really well for my last set. Honestly Nairobi plays well with any leave-in. I will try to post pics once I separate the curls.

Congrats sis!

I've been doing a wash and go once every 7-10 days. Wear it down for a couple of days, then a curly pony until wash day. I normally don't touch my hair at all between washes. And I haven't straightened since the beginning of the year.

^^update on that set and pics.
My initial ponytail flexirod set which took less than 15 minutes. I used only miss jessie’s Leave in.

Then after that was dry (45 mins) I reset like the video with braids and smaller flexirods, adding a bit of almond jai butter to each braid. View media item 129917
Looked like this in the morning

Verdict: I don’t feel like I love it enough to warrant doing basically two sets. I basically got the effect of my usual day 3 hair on the first day, fluffy and bigger. I can be patient and just wait lol rather than setting twice in one wash day.
However, I do really love how my hair feels so soft and touchable without any of my usual foam wrap, so I might just keep setting without it. Maybe this method will become more useful to me when my hair gets longer?

This style is just so pretty! How many days does it usually last for you?
Your hair looks soft, silky, moisturized and shiny too. Are you natural? If so, do you blow dry your hair before setting?
