Low Manipulation Challenge/hangout 2018 (braidouts, Twistouts, Bantu Knot-outs, Rollersets, Etc.)

*sniffle* :yep: Lesson learned.

What diameter of rods do you use, and about how many do you install? TIA!

I don't know the diameter but I use the purple for the front where my hair is a little shorter and I use the gray for the rest. I typically only use 8-10 but I want more of the loose curl beachy wave look. If I wanted it fuller instead of 2 per section I'd use maybe 3 per or 4 at the most. When I do a fuller look I put the smaller rods on top sections and the larger on the bottom so the curl size/pattern is not all the same.

Been wearing my hair in two braids the last few days and will wear a braidout for church tomorrow. Hopefully the heat and humidity will allow me to be great well at least until after the preaching...we'll see!

As I suspected it was 90° and very humid here. I left my braids in until we got to church. The definition lasted through testimony service and by offering time it was huge! By the end of service I had a wavy, frizzy ponytail. Going to rebraid tonight with CR products to see if I get more hold if not will bun the rest of the week till wash day.

My styles have been a failure all weekend  i kept trying to use that damn curl enhancing smoothie knowing full well that it's way too humid for that. I am going to purchase something new tonight, not sure what.

Does the Curl Enhancing smoothie give you the frizzies too? I was using it exclusively for about 3-4 weeks and regardless of how much I used or tried to seal it in, it refused to stay. As soon as I stepped outside my protective styles were extremely frizzed and my braids looked so shredded.

During the winter months, that stuff held up very well. I want to like it year round, since it smells very nice.

If you wear your hair up but the ends are not tucked in as that still a protective style.?
I would consider that a protective style as well since your hair is off your clothes. You are welcome to hang with us all the same if you do braidouts or twistouts, wear them out for a few days, and then pin them up. :yep:

Yep, I might as well kiss any hair style that I am trying to accomplish using this stuff goodbye  it sucks up all that moisture from the hair and mind you, the hair feels soooo juicy and moisturized but any attempt at holding a style is gone. I mayyyy try it again with a gel layered over it because i still have some and i don't throw away any products.

using it in cooler months sounds like a smart idea :yep:

I waited until too late on Sunday night to wash my hair, so I did a pre-poo then quick wash.

I set my hair on curlformers while saturating my hair with the Nairobi foam lotion. I did it to stretch my hair for a twist out, but I'm wearing the curls pinned up again today because they held better with the addition of the Nairobi.

I'll definitely how to set in twists or something tonight for tomorrow's style, but I'm liking the Nairobi. I used to use it a while back, but I was not saturating each section well enough.

The other week my hairdresser was putting permrods in another client's hair as I waited, and I saw how much foam she was using on a section plus gently combing it out with a fine fine comb, and the girl's hair was smooth and a similar texture to mine.

Where do you find the Nairobi? I have never tried it and I am curious-I always heard it was the best foam wrap. I like Keracare (moisturizing but with a soft hold) and Elasta QP (good hold but drying) but if the Nairobi combines qualities I like from both, I would love to replace them.

I would love to have my hair like this: .

Every time I try this on my hair it looks a hot mess. I need a professional to get this style.

The BSS. I had an old foam bottle from them, so I bought the big bottle so I can just refill since it was cheaper and I’d be okay using more.

She is talented. I have watched a lot of her videos. Her products are nice as well. I really love her balms.

You can definitely do those. You have the length. Of course the tail won't be as long but if you wanted it longer, you could just add a bit of extension hair just to the end to get some extra length.

Thanks, @faithVA! I repeat: You are the most encouraging person!!!

I'm afraid the coiliness and kinkiness of my hair will make it hard for me install these styles, especially the French braid. I might try the French twist first (I didn't even know there was such a thing!).

I feel like if I could master one of these styles, then I'd have a style that makes me feel more adult. I don't like wearing puffs specifically because it seems like such a little kid style on me. Those single braids and twists, I'm hoping, would have a more grown-looking result. That would make protecting styling and wash day a breeze, too!

:curtain: I might add some extra hair some days if I can figure out how.

My hair is several inches shorter than yours and my curls are smaller and my shrinkage higher and I still think it can be done.

You just have to practice more until you can do it without thinking. Definitely start with the twisted one since it is easier but the braid will lay flatter.

Go for it.

Whew! Watching this video gave me indigestion. I would never, ever. I can't even imagine trying to take those out. It's cute tho.

Here is my latest twist out using Alikay Naturals products. My hair is really soft yet has lots of definition. I want to see what day 2 hair will look like tomorrow.

Ugh shrinkage...I don't think I will ever get used to it. My almost HL hair shrinks to my shoulders. I joined the no heat challenge so will be bunning, twist outs, and wash and go ponytails for the reminder of the summer. Trying to get to full HL by year end which is where I want to maintain. I would have to be knee length stretched to have MBL or WL curls.20180624_211306-1224x1632.jpg 20180624_211320-1224x1632.jpg 20180624_211748-1224x1632.jpg

Bunned for a week, now I'm on day 2 of a wash and go. Will try to make it last until next weekend before I wash again. I found more SSKs with this wash so I need to try to do an S&D sometime soon.

I'm thinking about installing some twists this week. I'll have to see how I feel. I really have to be in the mood to do them.
