Lo-mani challenge #2 (dec 07- apr 08) -- this one is easier. :)

Finally a challenge I can stick to. I hate combing my hair....:nono: I am in!! I plan to continue with the twists underneath my wigs... And just to think, I was starting to feel guilty about not doing more with my hair:look:. I plan to do this until Spring. Wearing wigs when the wheather is warm doesn't go well at all with my menopause:nono:..

:yay: Welcome lollyoo, daniemoy, Closer1, BrownSkin2, cmw45, mohair and tcatt.

I think you'll find it gets easier and easier once you get started.
Make sure ya'll review Robin's how to get out tangles video.

I think this will be a challenge I can complete. I will start off with three days of low manipulation since that is what I for now neways.

I'm in! I already promised myself to only use my jibere shower comb and have been in a head scaf for days... I thought this would be hard, but I think I can hang. I'll try it until Christmas and see how it goes.

i've been watching robin's video for combing/brushing and just watching how patient she is with it. lo mani will be great for me, but i also need to start being more gentle with my detangling sessions to see REAL results.

go go power growers!

Hey runrun where can I find this video? I'd like to watch it too.

can I join too? I have already discovered sarecas oil rinse is great !! I am 12 weeks post relaxer and I am debating on whether to relax or not. I have a little breakage but it is mostly from tangles which instead of taking my time to untangle I just pulled out:nono:. I am getting lots of tangles lately . should I just clarify? and have oil rinses every couple of days or should I just relax. I know I can do the low mani since I currently am wearing cornrows under a half wig as a protective style.

 Of course you can join! :)

If you're having a lot of tangles make sure you watch the videos. I still go back and review them and I've been using her method to take down my braids for years. Too bad it didn't occur to me to try them on my wash n gos. :ohwell:

I didn't start lo-mani until after I'd texturized my hair. So far be it from me to discourage you from relaxing if you think it's time. I have to admit, lo-mani has to be "learned" and it's much easier to learn on freshly relaxed hair.

If you're having a crazy amount of tangles and you don't want to relax then gently and slowly run your fingers through your hair during every oil rinse. If you hit a tangle, without applying downward pressure, separate your fingers which will put the tangle apart. Does that makes sense? It's the same thing she does in the videos.

i'm loving this so far.

i'm not only low mani
but in protectives, too
(wearing twists)

and these have definitely helped me lose less hair
especially during my wash.

i've washed and dc'ed these twists twice so far
(theyve been in for 8 days)
and i lost SO little hair

i usually would detangle my hair each time i washed
and even though i did it under running water
or full of conditioner, i still got tons of breakage

what's also helped me to lose less hair during my wash
is using bowls to pour the product over my head
rather than using my hands to manipulate it in too much
and then after my hair is mostly coated by using the bowls
i just kind of gently spread it/work it in with my hands

I'm definitely in on this one! The longer my hair gets the more I start combing and messing with it. This challenge will definitely help me with this bad habit. It's back to combing only on wash day, scalp massage 2x a week, and protective style/bun everyday. Thanks for restarting this Sareca!

Yay! I'm glad you're already seeing results. My results came pretty quickly too. :yep:

i keep being too lazy for scalp massages
(and i did join that scalp massage challenge)
when i do actually do them,
i only do it for like....2 minutes
then i get tired/annoyed

i was looking at these little electric massage things
in walgreens the other day
they arent necessarily for the scalp
but when i tried it out on my hand
it seemed to make the blood flow really good

they look really "spacey/cosmic"
i might buy one sometime

I'm on the challenge but I wouldn't be if I didn't have an electric scalp massager. :nono: Unfortunately, it electric one broke yesterday. :cry2: I ordered a new one but while I'm waiting for it to come I've been using a manual foot massager. It looks kinda like this...

It feels good so I've been doing it 5 minutes, but I can't do 5 minutes with them with my hands or fingers. I ALWAYS get distracted and stop. :ohwell:

Ok count me in too! I'm trying to aim for combing no more than at night occasionally when or if I wrap my hair (maximum 2x a week changing directions).

I saw some breakage today cause I wore my hair out and could stop touching it. New salon roller set that's silky and hot lol. Up in a bun she goes starting tomorrow.

Sareca, what's the link to get me an electric massager for my scalp? and also, where did you buy the manual foot massager? I'd like to have one of each too. I get lazy sometimes and have no desire to massage my scalp with my fingers.

Help a sista out!

I justrelaxed my hair on Thursday and I just washed and protein treated it this morning, so now I have to find a lo-mani hair style. I use the mn and sulfur on my scalp so I need to do something that can give easy access to my scalp without having to comb my hair.

I cannot wear extension braids on my job so I guess I'll have to go ahead and cornrow my hair agian and wear my full wigs. I really want to do something else though.:wallbash: Stupid job rules!!!

These things are prefect for the lazy... I should know. :wink2:
This is the exact one I have and the exact place I got it

Too bad it broke this weekend. I just replaced it with one I found for $9.99 on amazon.com. I'll let you know what I think about it, but the one from unwind was far superior to the last one I had. I'm hoping this one isn't a waste of money.

The foot massager came spa kit I got from Walmart. The kit had a curved handle skin brush (which is the reason I brought it) and was $3.XX. :yay:

Thanks Sareca and don't forget to let me know how the one from Amazon works out.

hey sareca!

do you not use a comb at all?
or just very sparingly?

i'll probably only use mine once a month
when i'm re-doing my twists

and only after i've pulled the hair apart sufficiently
to get all of the tangles out

well, that's if i'll even need to
use the comb after that
we'll see lol

edit:

your rollerset is beautiful!

Thanks :) It's my best one ever!

I use the comb on detangling day only.

I'm in. I will wear twistouts for one week and my hair up for 3 days so no mani for a total of 10 days. On December 26th I'm going to try your oil rinse to detangle my hair. Sareca, when you coat your hair w/oil, do you do a hot oil treatment?
