Ladies who never had long hair before LHCF

I am curious about this as well. i know there has to be more ladies on here who have never had long hair before.

Mine has never been past my shoulders, but maybe one day it will especially now that I am transitioning.

I am past SL and this is the longest my hair has ever been. In the past I would be right at SL, never longer. Once I get to APL I will personally feel like I accomplished something. I have never even been close to that.

Toy! Your pony!

That's the type of story I love to hear.

It can be discouraging when you see all these childhood pics of dookie braids down to the booty, when your own hair barely grew past APL as a child.

Ditto to this. My hair has never been past NL and I'm past SL. Can't wait to hit APL

OP, do you remember how your hair was taken care of when you were a child? Maybe, your hair has the potential to grow pass NL but was never given a fighting chance :yep:

My older sister has always had pretty longish hair. She says my mom took really good care of it but when when i was born, being the third child their wasnt as much time for my hair as it was her. She was the first child.

Idk. maybe it was just bad hair care. But my sister regardless has always had the "better hair"

Your hair is so beautiful Is this what you did to acheive your long hair or is it what you are doing to keep it long?

I think I was close to armpit length at one point when I was little; I don't know how as well I must have been lucky at the time. But certainly for as long as I remember my hair has been mostly shoulder length, and not out of choice :nono:. I was desiring longer hair but had no idea how to get there. And I'm only 18 as well, so I really envy the women who had long hair in their childhood/teens, either your hair was extra strong or you had parents who knew what they were doing. Mine only knew to relax and straighten the heck out of it, and on top of that putting braids in all the time as well, with little conditioning, so you can imagine why it wasn't too great. I was kind of conditioned not to know very much about natural hair,or caring about my hair non-stop, until I found this site, and now I'm transitioning, wish me luck :D

I only had 1" to 3" of hair my whole life which was shorter than earlength and had frequent bald/short patches. When I found the Cathy Howse book I was about 1/2 an inch for 2 years. I had hair loss and eczema on my scalp and couldn't even attach braids as it was so short.:perplexed I'm shoulder length in some parts now and hoping to make full healthy SL+ by the end of the year.

I like this thread! Sorry I don't have any pics of my hair but here's my story:

The longest my hair was as a child was collarbone and that's relaxed. My mom gave me a relaxer at age 9. Basically when my grandma got to old to do my hair, my mom took me to the salon to get a touch up every month (!) because that what the stylist told her was best.

The crazy thing is my grandma had type 2C hair naturally and never put a chemical in it. My aunt I think has a similar texture but has always worn a pixie cut. If her hair grows to ear length she will relax it and/or get a weave. (WTF?) My mom has never had hair past neck length relaxed.

At age 12 I asked for a hair cut like my older cousin who a had a very short layered look slightly longer than a pixie.

I think what I admired was her confidence and the attention she was getting. No one had ever complemented me on my hair and I had no idea that my cousins would have loved to have hair my length at the time.

As soon as I went to high-school I realised my mistake. All the popular girls had hair at least neck length. I didn't want to be part of their crowd but I did want to go on dates :look: That was 1984 and my quest for long hair began.

On the way, I have had a lot of hair disasters and I mean A LOT. I made my 1st breakthru when I found the Crown and Glory method. I didn't follow it exactly and I nearly fell over last April when I blowdried my hair and it was shoulder length.

I don't want to wear braids all the time and I found this site shortly afterwards (but only recently came out of lurk mode). I researched many books but nothing has compared to the info on this site.

I am now 1 inch from APL stretched which I NEVER EVER thought I could or would be. My goals have changed too. All the inspiring ladies on this site have made me feel that Mid-back length is attainable! I hope to be there in 2012.

Ladies we can do it!! :circle:

I've Been doing this same routine my whole journey,i have changed a couple of products thats about it.

^^ Toy, love your hair and your story.. That pony is to die for:) Truly an inspiration. your relaxed correct? how often do you relax?

I had short nappy hair as a child, never grew past shoulders.. I have been focused on healthy haircare for 4 years. I have bunned my way all the way to mbl.. I relax today after 12 weeks and cant wait! I am 4a relaxed. Ladies I literally wore my hair in a octopus clip for 2 years, getting past length. I cowashed daily. I would wear my hair out 2 to 3 days after a relaxer and put it back up. That helped me tremendously, I was dedicated and yes unattractive the whole time cuz of the bun put i didnt care!!!

P.S My hair is in a octopus clip now awaiting my relaxer..

P.S.S I will have my stylist take pics on my camera phone so I can finally figure out how to post a pic..duh..:ohwell:

I have never had long hair, even as a child until I found the hair boards. My hair was shoulder length, a little bit longer that the first pic in my siggy years back. Now I'm pushing BSL!

These tales are really uplifting!! It proves yes with time and correct methods it can be done. I hope to join you all one day.

okay Toy 1 more question, lye or no lye, and what brand, lol
Sorry for all the questions but i'm officially your newest stalker..

I had never been past shoulder length before LHCF, nor was my hair ever really healthy. Now I am on my way to APL, my hair is healthier and my scalp is better than ever:grin:. Thank You!

Did you do constant weaves and braids? I'm afraid weaves and braids are not for me.

Great inspiration from Toy, I have never had hair longer than where I have it now which is past shoulder length but I suppose you really want to know about those who have grown it!!!

I've never had long hair before this. I still don't think it's long, but it's the longest it's ever been. The first pic was in May 2008. I was nape length. The second pic is Jan 2010. I'm about APL here. Still not claiming it until I'm 100% sure.

Nope. I have been weave free for two years (I was an addict). I ended that phase with a messed up scalp and chewed up hair from the thread. I have considered some wig styles though. I have just been wearing a lot of buns mostly.
