Maybe I need to rephrase the question.

When you hear the phrase "jungle fever", which option (in poll) comes to mind?

Wow I haven't heard that term in a long time. :nono:

Yeah I tried to find an easy way of saying I'm ALL for interracial dating but when I use JUNGLE FEVER, the black guys always say "oh so you like them WHITE guys?" . It annoys the pure crap out of me. I guess I'll go back to saying interracial dating. Even then they say the same thing. :wallbash:

WHAT IN SAM HILL!?

Lemme just edit the thread.

well i would never use that term because to me, its just like saying the N word. Maybe the way you keep throwing the word around is not going well with some people.

I never thought of it as a derogatory word.

Sorry.

I personally find it to be a derogatory reference to black-white interracial couples, because I don't recall hearing the term "jungle fever" being tossed around before the movie came out, and the only time the term is ever used is in reference to black-white IRs. I doubt anyone looks at an latina/asian and white IR and think "jungle fever".

I picked any black/white couple because the term jungle is usually implied when talking about black people (Africa). I don't know how any kind of interracial couple would apply because if it's an Asian/Caucasian couple where is the black reference there?

I guess the bad connotation that goes along with it is the same as when black females are called "jungle bunnies." Anything having to do with the jungle automatically evokes the primitive.

Like why was it called jungle fever in the first place? Is the only way people can appreciate each other due to some super bad jungle case of heat exhaustion or something? :lachen: I never liked the term.

It's not normally used between other races besides white and black that I know of. AND the song is still stuck in my head so I don't know if I we can be cool till it's gone.

I hate that phrase and I really hate that damn song.

It usually means a black/white combo. 'Cause who else but a black person is from the JUNGLE?

exactly :nono:. op, don't be so shocked that many people are refusing to answer your question, no matter how you phrase and re-phrase it. the term "jungle fever" is derogatory to me, also.

the implication is that the white person has "jungle fever" when they go with someone who is black because we are from "the jungle". it all connects back to the racist notion that blacks are uncivilised and barbaric. i refuse to use such a racist term.

WELL! I have been enlightened today. Im just going to digress ...

in the corner.

According to the urban dictionary:

Jungle fever is-

1. A white person dating a person of color.
2. An inter-racial relationship, namely between a white person and a black person.
3. When a non-black person is atracted sexually to black people. Originally it was used for when a white woman dates black men, but now it could refer to a white man who thinks black women are hot and wants to date them.

A Stevie Wonder song about black man/white woman love.
"She's gon black guy crazy
He's gone white girl hazy
They got jungle fever"--Stevie Wonder

There's more, so here's the link:

And don't feel bad. I never thought it was a derogatory term either. It was meant to be funny in the movie. :look:

What a great way to spend my second day on the boards. :nono:

Just a quick tip...

You might want to search some of the topics here before jumping right on in... there are actually a LOT of ladies here who are involved with or married to non-black men... but I think because of that, we don't see a big deal about being attracted to someone white, Asian or Hispanic...

We like who we like, and don't need to put a name on it. :)
