July 2016: Hits & Misses

I learned long ago that any "butter" and not "lotion" or "Creme" just don't moisturize, even if they claim too. I mean, there is no harm in trying it out for moisture reasons, but I definitely understand your frustration. For some people, it does work. Boggles me how, but for some people, it does work.

I will update tomorrow how it works with the combination I mentioned as I did try it.
I mostly use my butters to seal as well. My hair loves butters for this purpose more than it likes oils alone. So what I do with some of my natural butters is, I add some oil to them, whip it up real good until it's pretty light and use the combination as a sealant over moisturized hair. It does a wayyy better job this way and keeps my hair moisturized for a much longer time.

I can see that. Everything that moisturized my hair well was liquidy or a light cream, with the exception of the Design Essentials Coconut and Monoi Deep Moisture Soufflé. I think that worked for me because although it's thick, it's still kind of wet, as opposed to the Curlaide Moisture Butter which is not as wet. I know Design Essentials has a Hydration Milk that they added to the Coconut and Monoi line that I might try out, however I'm not crazy over the scent of the line. If I can get past that, it might be worth it.

Hit: Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Lock and Braid Butter - a great styler that I used on a braidout on blow dried hair. It left my hair very soft, but still gave hold. Too bad the humidity this past week in NYC ruined my braidout, but I liked the way my hair came out! I used this in conjunction with the Styling Lotion from the same line, but I will have to hold off on this and revisit braidouts on blowdried hair in the cooler months

Not a Hit or Miss:

This product combination. So I put SD Wheat Germ, then CRN Curlaide and sealed with Castor. My roots feel a tad "rough" that feel I always get with Shea butter butters. Usually, when I take out the twist and work through my hair, I get a better feel. However, what I liked was that upon applying the CRN, my curls were definitely popping. Like POPPING. I will try it for my next puff.

Also, my ends were really dry, but after the Bekura Vanilla Whiskey on my ends and concentrating everything on my ends and working up, my ends on my twist were not frizzy. Actually, just curled right up. If I wanted to cut, I wouldn't know where to start. I liked that. A lot.

Miss:
Twisted my hair around 4pm and it's still wet o_O

I used this yesterday as a Pre-Poo (on dry hair).

Did you rinse this out after applying to your ends or did you leave it in?

I saw on YT where someone was using this as a L-I?

@MsSanz92

A) NYC has not been kind to hair this week.

B) I tried that line on the DE and it was too wet for me. Left me with good definition but left my hair heavy and sticky. It's really hard for me to find an inbetween but I'm getting better. I'm going to try the CRN hair milk she has next and see how that works out. Honestly, I have no OTG leave in products I can turn to.

I rinsed that stuff out!!!!!! I'm too scared to play with protein like that. I only used it because my ends were really dry and not holding moisture and I felt that CJ TM was too hard to use again.

The fact that my ends are literally spiraling and curling tells me I made the right choice but you know I like to DC and run errands. :look:

I'm sure with dilution, it would be great as a leave in, but I'm too scared of protein these days. And Bekura to expensive with too few sales to be playing like that :laugh:

Did you need a lot to pre-poo? How did it work out?

@Saludable84
What about Oyin Hair Dew and/or Karen's Sweet Ambrosia? I'd rely on these if I was looking at OTG options.

I would also think about TGIN's Green Tea (even though it's h3L! to get out of the bottle). I'd also probably look at As I Am's Hair Lotion/Milk*never tried*

I'm still not sold on Oyin. Gotta play with it. KBB is not in stock at target. That seems to be a issue for everyone. TGIN I'm thinking about but the Honey Masque is not going to be a repurchase so idk and AIA never works for me. Never.

Oh really? I can always find it at my Target, but I went ahead and got it on Subscription to be delivered every 26 weeks (Discounted price & free delivery).

That and the Super Hydrating Butter. Both are Excellent.:love:

As I Am I only use the Coconut Cowash and/or the Cleansing Pudding. Have never tried anything else by them.

TGIN Green Tea was okay. Except it was a royal pain to get out of the bottle.:angry2:

I think the CRN Moisture Milk might work well for you. It's comparable to the PBN Muru and Sapote (not as good, but very, very, very close). I used it as a leave-in and as a refresher on dampened hair, and it performed well both ways.
@PJaye
This is good to know.:up:

I've never tried CRN Moisture Milk before, so I will keep this in mind. Love both Muru & Sapote.

I do have CRN's Cranberry Milk tho'.

Styling my hair yesterday. I should have done a washngo. I look like boo boo the fool with this bang and bun.

I need to figure this routine out. If I want to washngo , I need to redo my hair every 3 days. That's going to be hard with the baby right now. The tangles can't wait a week even if it still looks good.

I want micro/mini braids on my own hair. Hmmmm

Hit: Framesi Color Lover Moisture Rich Masque

Even though Komaza's Protein treatment worked for my hair, it didn't create that curl popping effect I usually like. The only time I experienced that with any protein treatment was with Aveda Damage Remedy Intensive Treatment. But Aveda may have changed the formula or something, because it didn't produce similar results when I bought a new 5 ounce a year later. And the price was getting too steep for me to not get the results I wanted.

I peeped that the key ingredient in the Aveda was "quinoa protein" so I did a Google search and came across Framesi. I was able to find it at Ricky's for 9.95 for a 16 oz, much better than the price they were calling for at different online vendors. Ricky's customer service tried to tell me that it was only available for hair professionals, but I wasn't hearing it, lol.

I was able to try this product last weekend, and its a total hit. My curls are popping, my hair feels ridiculously soft and strong. I cannot explain it, but my strands seemed to have thickened up and looks much more shiny. My hair is smoooottthhh. No fly-aways. I went back to buy two more 16 ounces at the $9.95 price tag. I did peep that the product has cones in it :(, but its further down in the list of ingredients so that didn't dissuade me from purchasing.

Here are the list of ingredients: ALL COLOR LOVER FORMULAS ARE: 100% vegan, Sulfate-Free, Paraben-Free, Gluten-Free, DEA free, Sodium chloride free, Powerful anti-aging properties, Thermal & UV protectants, Weightless, Will not build up.

Water, Cetearyl Alcohol, Cetrimonium Chloride, Behentrimonium Methosulfate, Lauryl Alcohol, Hydrolyzed Quinoa, Superoxide Dismutase, Silk Amino Acids, Vinifera Fruit Cell Extract, Cocos Nucifera Oil, Panthenol, Oryza Sativa Bran Oil, Tocopheryl Acetate, Ascorbic Acid, Saccharomyces Magnewium FermentHydrolsate, Saccharomyces Potassium Ferment Hydrolysate, Adenosine Triphosphate, Propanediol, Silicone Quaternium-16, Bis-Diisopropanolamino-PG-Propyl Dimethicone/Bis-Isobutyl PEG-14 Copolymer, Quaternium-95, Undeceth-11, Fragrance, Butyoctanol, Dimethicone, Undeceth-5, Polysorbate-20, Citric Acid, Dehydroacetic Acid, Benzyl Alcohol, Mica, Titanium Dioxide, BCC12-Base

On the Fence: Mielle's Organics Babassu Oil and Mint Deep Conditioner

Likely won't be repurchasing, both for the price and the fact that I found a better DC and protein treatment for my hair, but it does appear to strengthen my strands and reduce shedding. Maybe I'll just have it in the stash if I'm experiencing excessive shedding.
