July 2016: Hits & Misses

Initial Hits/First Use Hits:

Shescentit Baobab Fluffy Curls Leave-In Conditioner
This product has a thin, creamy consistency that is very similar to the Coco Cream LI except that it’s a tad thicker (it kind of resembles APB's Simple HC). This applied very well and made my hair feel soft, silky, smooth and moisturized. It also offered a decent amount of slip. Also similar to the Coco Cream, it doesn’t provide long-lasting moisture. As a result, this would be a great product to use before straightening because it softens and smooths the hair without weighing it down. This is a nice product and I plan on enjoying every bit of it until its gone, but won't a repurchase it.

All of Shescentit's leave ins/moisturizers are like that. They feel great going on, they seem to moisturize and then hours later my hair feel dry. I like products that do not require a butter or oil to seal.

Hit:
NG Herbal Blends Conditioner. Great moisturization, great slip, great everything. I applied it while in the shower and I'm convinced that steam, just shower steam, helps with application of conditioner. As I was rinsing out, I left some it because it was just too good to let it all go down the drain. I also didn't need much. Glad I picked this up during the flash sale but wished now I had gotten the 16oz size. Next time.

DevaCurl Low-Poo. I used the DevaCare and it doesn't have much slip. The DevaCurl I used just a tad more instead of just enough, and it worked better.

TGIN Honey Moisture Mask. Used this earlier this week (trying to use it up) and it was pretty good. Left good moisture

Miss:
Not using a heavy sealer. I don't want to use butters because it's hot and I sweat a lot at the gym, but I will just have to go back to using butters to seal. I'm going to have break out my CRN Almond Jai and look into another butter in the meanwhile.

Are they fruity? Cake-y? Please, some details. Thanks?
@IronButterfly
"Purple Rain" smells like a musky-Grape. Absolutely delicious.
"Let's Go Crazy" is a Fruity-Buttercream mix
"Raspberry Beret" is a Raspberry & Vanilla
"Little Red Corvette" has a Cherry & Vanilla scent.

They had 1999, When Does Cry and a lot of others, but I didn't get them.

I heard the full list of scent offerings will return sometime in September.

Continued Hit

Cream and Coco Spun sugar reconstructor. I've been adding it to my hair before adding a conditioner on top. Lovely soft hair after rinsing.

Tentative hit

Cream and Coco Avocado and Matcha restoring deep conditioner. Great application. Creamy and fluffy at the same time. Hair laid down. There's clay and Amla in this. I'll see how my hair feels tomorrow after I rinse it out

HIT: Alaffia Every Day Shea Unscented Conditioner for a night time leave in.

I have been on a quest to find the perfect unscented conditioner to use as a night time moisturizer that won't adversely effect my allergies and moisturize my situation---and I have found it in the Every Day Shea Unscented Conditioner. It's aight as a cowash but really kept my hair super moisturized as a night time leave in and my sinuses are grateful!

And I love that I bought a liter for $10 and some change and can find it in local stores!

@shawnyblazes
I wanna try this Line next.

Hit: As I Am So Much Moisture! - this stuff is AMAZING! The name doesn't lie; it left my hair super moisturized and soft. The consistency is very runny (it can probably be put in a spray bottle rather than a pump because it's not creamy) but I'm realizing that my hair prefers thinner products because I have low porosity hair. One thing I would suggest is that you seal with an oil to keep the moisture in, since it's glycerin heavy.

Not a hit, but not a complete miss: Camille Rose Curlaide Moisture Butter - it's okay, but it's not as moisturizing as I thought would be. It seems to sit on my hair and take a while to absorb, probably because it's a thick butter. I will use it up, but probably won't repurchase

Did you use a moisturizer beneath. When I used the almond jai I felt the same way when I didn't use a moisturizer first. I saw a review on Amazon in which she said she used a moisturizer, this and then an oil to seal with success.

When you asked what is air conditioning I was thinking maybe you live someplace where they don't use it/never heard of it... but you have a computer, are on lhcf and it's 2016 so that didn't make any sense

Everytime I see my question, I burst out laughing:drunk:. To be fair, apart from work and cars we don't really use it much:look:....reaching I know. Listen, I could come up with a couple more laughable excuses but let's just chalk this one up to tiredness:lol:.

I haven't posted in a while!
I have all HITS so far!
  • Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen, Grow & Restore Leave-In Conditioner - :love:ed how it made my "wash & go" curly and moist!
  • Design Essentials Coconut & Monoi Deep Moisture Milk Souffle - amazing consistency and keeps my hair super hydrated just the way I like it!
  • Wet Line Xtreme Styling Gel - read the thread, purchased the small size. After two uses, went back and bought the tub. I have a patch of 3c hair on the top front of my head and the rest of my hair is 4B with a patch of 4C right behind the 3C. Weird, I know. This gel makes all of my textures sing! See you around Olive Oil EcoStyler! (well after I use you up).
  • Camille Rose Moisture Milk - Easy to throw in my overnight or weekender bag too; doesn't take up too much space.
  • Camille Rose Curlaide Moisture Butter - Almost as good as the Design Essentials C&M Deep Moisture Milk Souffle, but not quite. Good product though!
  • AVEDA be curly co-wash - I used to co-wash all the time, but was told that I need to shampoo at least every other week because I had buildup (per my Komaza Hair Analysis), so I pretty much stopped. I revisited co-washing for the Summer; opened up my product vault and found I had some deluxe samples of this from past AVEDA shopping trips. OMG! Now this is my D-O-G!!!

I did the modified LCO method, so I used a spray leave in, a cream one and then this product and an oil to seal. When I think about it, the moisture butter acts more like a sealant than moisturizer, which makes the name misleading. It's kind of annoying when products are marketed as one thing, but don't work the way it's marketed as. I'm going to try it again today when I wash my hair after using the As I Am So Much Moisture and see how it acts then. I won't repurchase, but I will use it up since I have it. I just think in general I will be sticking to lighter products like hair lotions and spray leave ins since they work a lot better on my hair.

I learned long ago that any "butter" and not "lotion" or "Creme" just don't moisturize, even if they claim too. I mean, there is no harm in trying it out for moisture reasons, but I definitely understand your frustration. For some people, it does work. Boggles me how, but for some people, it does work.

I will update tomorrow how it works with the combination I mentioned as I did try it.
