I am getting braids this month and would like to know if anyone would like to do a braid regimen with me. We used to do regimens on an old board, which worked out great. Basically, we will FIRST measure our hair, then we would follow a strict schedule (the same exact routine using the same products) while we are wearing braids and try our best to stick with the routine. Then at the end of 2 1/2 months (or however long one keeps there braids in) we will see how much progess we made. So what do you think?

anyone planning to get braids soon or have braids now?

Hi Lee!

I'm not in but I do remember the STRICT regime that you and Goldie used to do.

Hi Lee.... I "just" put braids in my hair and i would love to be in a braid regimen with someone (there's strength in numbers

) I do my own braids, and I have found (through a series of experiences) that box braids work best for me in terms of accumulating length and overall hair health. Back in 1994 I wore braids back to back (literally) for a year and a half. When i finally stopped, my hair had grown from neck length to 1 inch past bra strap... but unfortunately I did not know how to take care of it and it eventually broke off again to about shoulder length.

Hey Daviine!

Yeah, I am trying to start another one up! I really need someone to encourage me to keep my braids in my head this time. I want to keep them in until the summer hit. Hopefully by then, I would have reached my goal!

Sade, I say let's do it girl! I plan to get my hair done right after V-day. After that, it will be box braids until summer! And I want to do them myself. Do you have any braiding tips?

Does it strictly have o be braids or can it be cornrows or twist extensions as well?

TIA

If you planning to keep/ or get the cornrows done so that you have your hair totally concealed for 2 months, then they will work just as well!

And AYESHIA... I will keep you posted!

I plan on keeping my braids until May so this challenge will help me to stick to my plan. As for and braiding tips... I would say just to make sure the braids arent too small (ex. no micros), make sure ALL of your own hair is braided completely (if you leave you ends loose, just make sure that it's none of your own hair that is loose), watch the hairline, do not use anything heavy (creamy conditioners, oils, etc). I have learned that you have to REALLY be careful when keeping braids for a long period of time b/c products will buildup at the base and cause sorta of a mini dredlock causing breakage when you take the braids down. I plan to shampoo every week and a half or so, alternating with clarifying shampooand CON, then follow that up will Infusium Leave-In or another watery leave-in, then I will use braid spray (Better braids is my favorite)to keep my braids moisterized....that's it! I've worn braids off and on for about 10 years now and this is what works for me. I will say though that it has only been the last 8 months or so that I have had the knowledge to care for my hair out of braids which is why I have never been able to maintain my accumulated length.

Count me in. I just put braids in a little over a week ago. My products are Better Braids braid spray, Razac Leave-in conditioner, and African Pride braid shampoo. My regimen is this: shampoo once a week, rinse once or twice a week, apply braid spray in the morning, mist with diluted leave-in in the evenings, and continue the scalp massages & vitamins. Before putting in the braids, I measured the top at 9 inches, so I'll consider that my current length.

It was good seeing you in LA. As you know, I have braids. Seeing like how my hairdresser is in Santa Domingo until mid-April, I will be putting my braids back in. I didn't measure my hair pre-braids, and I kinda have my regimen down. I'm still willing to do the thing witcha, though!

Oh, yeah!!! I learned to do my own box braids by watching the Hair Lady video. I kinda follow her regimen... I'm only keeping my braids at two months at a time, unless they look raggedy, then they come out sooner. www.growafrohairlong.com is the website. I had to pay someone to do them the last time as my belly is too big to contort my body 'round....

i did too but i told my friend not to braid them that tight, plus the braids that she does around the edges are a little bit larger than the rest of the braids. Alot of people get extensions around the edges and there are like two or three strands odf hair holding on to dear life.

I am gonna try this...I just put in new cornrows this past weekend...I could use some length...I don't know about keeping these same ones for two months...but, I'll see how it goes

You can count me in....I was already on this "challenge" myself since the begining of December. I got medium box braids and I retouched some of the front....when they start to hang a little, they can break your hair off, so I just take them out and redo them. I also plan on keeping my hair braided until June of this year, so that will be 6 months in total for me. I will get my hair rebraided in the begining of March, right b4 I go to Paris.

I find that while I have braids it is best to take some ORS Shea butter lotion and lightly massage the base of the braid with 2 fingers. This prevents the nasty build-up. I do this about once a week. I only do this two the braids in the front were most of the build up is. I just got a perm so I have to wait to get some new growth before I can get braids. I hope to join the challenge in Mid-March.

Good luck!

I would like to join the regimen, I plan on getting mediy=um sized box braids in exactly 3 weeks. I follow the hair lady's method and the braids will be a welcomed break since I go to school full time, it would be nice to have something where I can just get up and go! Keep me posted as to when you are going to start the regimen.

I'm in. Just did my med sized box braids over. Measured 3 3/4 at the hair line, 4 1/2 at the crown and 5 1/4 at the nape. I need 7
smile.gif
all over for my "Curve" appointment. Let me know when it has offically started or has it already? lol.

Count me in! My hair is in individual braids(without extensions). I conditioner wash my hair 3 times a week with either Natures gate herbal cond. or Home health Aloe and olive cond. I shampoo once every two weeks with either Dark and lovely detang.shampoo or Jason sea kelp shampoo.
I moisturize my hair with Surge, african pride braid spray, and (castor oi and shea butter on the hair and ends).

Yep - I used that and the lavender colored scalp cleaner the whole time I "transitioned" from relaxed to natural. That was 18 straight months.

Hey Beautiful!

You know I love the challenges!

That is the ONLY way I would stay committed to somehting especially BRAIDS. In the past, I hated how others would do my braids. To me, they added way too much hair and my head was always heavy. So after spending over $100 a pop on getting them done, I would take them out less than two weeks later. So, I figured, I would do it myself. That way, I will not add a bunch of hair to each braid!

Did you find th hat you were looking for? What type of vintage hats are you into? i will keep my eyes open for sucha and if I see one that I think you'll like, i would get it for you... my gift to you! So give me more details on that, okay?

I will kiss CJ for you, but not today, I am upset with him. This morning, I found him in the corner of his room eating a bag of doritos (for breakfast). So he's on punsihment...no kisses!
