It's true that diry hair grows faster...

Very true...a lot of hostility on this subject. I have no problems trying that. As a matter of fact I regret the two times I did wash. I can definitely see the difference :(

it's not hostility, the fact of the matter is...dirt did not "make" your hair grow, you were not fussing with your hair everyday which helped stop it from breaking so you retained all the growth you received in that year.

Well...its interesting because when I did fuss with my hair trying to take care of it it didn't grow. When I maintained it and didn't fuss with it didn't grow. Therego my strong opinion on this subject. When you eliminate other alternatives if your left with the impossible it may be true ::shrugs::

Aww I hope you don't mean on my part. I wasn't trying to be hostile. You know how much money I could save if I didn't wash my hair 400X a week?!! LOL So if I came across as hostile, my sincerest apologies.

I think that if anyone else comes off as hostile, most of us want to get rid of old myths and just have newbies realize that old hair practices were leading us to setbacks and not hair growth & retention. If washing less works for you then you should stick to your regimen.
Not at all! I meant generally! Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. And as much as I'd like to embrace a new healthy way of hair care I'm looking at the final results. The reasons I got quickweaves in the first place was because my hair was not responding to care & maintenance. Or care & no maintenance...ect ect..

Your a sweetheart...thanks for all the tips!

@Ekaette, it's clear she is doing something right but I don't want her thinking having a dirty scalp/hair is what helped her get to where she is when that is not the case.

Here's the thing, growth is not something you turn on and off. Just like your nails are always growing, so is your hair. It is biological. Now if you clip your nails everyday or they break all the time, that doesn't mean they're not growing, it just means you're not retaining the growth that's happening due to other factors (breakage or clipping).

It's the same with hair. Hair is growing every day, hour, minute. But you will not see an accumulation of length (ie retention) if you're ends are breaking off every day due to manipulation or being cut off. Environmental factors do affect your length retention but they do not affect whether your hair is growing or not. That's just science.

It is not because your hair is dirty that you are having success.

Dirt/scalp debris can actually clog pores, block hair follicles, and create a breeding ground for fungal infections and alopecia related issues. It will not help the hair grow out of your scalp faster any more than trimming your ends will. However, low manipulation, protecting the ends will help retain length.

So, although you are a staunch supporter OP, I will pass up any future dirty hair/caked up gel challenge.

Disclaimer: I believe in trimming as needed.

You grew 3 inches of hair in less than 2 months?
Its not all even mind you because I had bad cuts in the past. But using pictures I took from my previous weave to my last one I'd have to say 2 or 3 inches is safe.

Even now..I have a lot of new growth and I just got a perm a week ago...Its weird I know!

I'm about to throw away my shampoo LOL j/k

That's awesome and let us know your progress in a few months. I might go overboard washing my hair, so I'm on the other side of the spectrum. I tend to co-wash almost every day. To give myself a break I rollerset because I'm probably over-manipulating my hair.

Do what works for YOU.

No No No! Don't do that! lol continue to wash your hair!

Thank you love....Maybe washing once a week is too much for me...maybe every other week or every 3 weeks with weekly pre-poo & conditioner washing. I washed my hair yesterday and I really wish I hadn't...I conditioned like crazy but it feels like it stripped the oils in my hair...I had to sleep with my hair wet to get the shine you see in my picture.

My hair just seems to do better with a lot of product buildup.

Before this week I hadn't washed in...6-7 weeks I believe....when I took the weave down I had at least 3 inches of growth I believe. (I may be wrong without actually measuring it)

Spicy, I used to also wear quickweaves alot but only 1-2 weeks at a time. But I would gel my hair down with ampro or prostyle brown protein gel. My hair would be so hard and brittle and dry from the protein that It would break off regardless of the fact that my hair was dirty and protected.

So would you consider that your hair REALLY loves protein and that is why it grew, coupled with the low mani routine.

Because really, If your hair is plastered to your head and covered with weave hair for that stretch of time, the only debris you would have is sweat, skin, sebum, and protien gel. (I just grossed myself out a little :lachen:)

You all seem so sure of yourselves...it's very interesting. No one ever said you were wrong...that's the most interesting of all!

No one said you were wrong for doing the low manipulation thing. They are trying to say that not washing your hair for weeks at a time is just nasty. Dirty hair is a breeding ground for scalp infections, sores, clogged pores. You are being offered wise information by long existing and well versed members, yet you act as if they are saying nothing. In order to grow you need to be quiet and listen to people who have been there done that. This board has wealth of information. Before you post what you think you know, do some research.

Once again "DIRT DOES NOT GROW HAIR... HOWEVER LOW MANIPULATION WILL HELP YOU TO RETAIN THE LENGTH YOU HAVE"

Yea I know...you almost made me throw up a little too lol j/k!

I understand...I think it WAS the protein that did it mainly...which explains the breakage without the moisture.

So when I first started on this forum I was unsure if I needed still more protein or if I just needed to go crazy a bit on the moisture.

??????

You assume that I took offense by what anyone here has said which far from the truth. It's a forum filled with women offering advice. I listened to each and every one of you but at the end of the day I have the right to make my own choices.

Not once have I disputed anything you all have said but yet I received a lot of criticism which in itself doesn't bother me. I repeatedly said no one disagreed with your views but then again I'm a big girl. I'd just like to see what works for me.

No biggie. But I appreciate your advice & views just the same.

However your thread is offering the advice that dirt makes hair grow. Maybe your title should have been " It's true that diry (sp: Dirty) hair grows faster FOR ME". Because it is chuck full of misinformation. Other people will think its true therefore cause irreversible damage to others.

The first line in the post said its "True for Me" I was asking if anyone else had similar experiences. Give people enough credit to make informed decisions.

If I started a thread telling people to chop off their hair and they do it that's their choice.

But I never told anyone to not wash their hair because as you like to say "It's nasty".

It is an opinion that I stick too...Not saying that anyone else needs too.

Maybe you should try doing a weekly protein treatment like the aphogee 2 MINUTE and wearing a wig or half wig from 1 wash day to the next for a month or two and see if you get similar results.

You know what I did...I did an egg protein treatment with V05 Moisture Milk, JBCO, EVOO, Honey & 1 egg...I thought that would be healthier than the Aphogee....But I'm still combing cooked egg chunks out my hair. Can't really tell if it made a difference overall...

Firstly, congrats on your progress OP!

I have seen more than one person grow their hair out with weaves and that brown gel. I wonder if it's a coincidence.

I doubt that dirt, filth, sweat, bacteria, etc... is the the best thing for one's scalp though.

That's like saying not washing your body is good for your skin. :drunk:

I really think it's the low manipulation that helps people retain! :yep:
