It's official I've suffered a setback!!

I am grabbing Aphogee tonight and as soon as I get off getting on it.I can't bear to look at my hair any longer and watch it suffer. I get off at 11 probably won't be home til around 11 30 or even midnight but I am doing my hair tonight. It needs it. I can't believe I let my hair get this bad. I guess this is my first Major Setback as a natural.

All that PS this winter and growth for nothing. I wonder how much I will have to end up cutting. I can't believe I PS for like almost two wks with my TST and my hair looks WORSE!!!!!

Here goes, note the thinning and I tried to show some breakage in the crown center area.

I have pics but photobucket is doing something crazy. I will try again when I get to the library. If not then I will have to upload them on to my Fotki.

feel better mama, setbacks happen to everyone. Just keep caring for it and you'll reach your goal in no time.

Sorry to hear you had a setback :bighug: What happened? Did you drastically change your regimine? I'm sure you'll get back your length in no time!

I'm sorry to hear that  I know how frustrating it can be, I recently had a set-back myself after being right around the corner from my goal. I know everything will work out in the end and you will achieve your goal :yep:

I have just been racking my brain trying to figure it out, and I think it's heat. I thought it was stress and it still could be but I blame the blowdryer and the flatiron just did me in. I probably could have reduced the damage had I caught it sooner. I am so upset with myself. I am just praying my hair bounces back. I got my Aphogee out in the car right now and when I get off it's on.

I uploaded the pics into my fotki cause photobucket is on some other mess.

ETA- Should I just keep my hair twisted like I was doing while it gets back to health. After this hardcore protein treatment what else should I do to help my hair bounce back?

I'm sorry to hear of your setback OP. When you say you think it might be heat, how often were you using heat?

I"m looking at your fotki and it doesn't look too bad. I do see that some hairs are shorter than others but overall I don't see any drastic problems. I think you hair will bounce back. It's beautiful and has a nice sheen BTW.

Girl I'm giving you much :love3: As long as you know what to do your hair WILL recover. I had my own set back last night...my fault(scissor happy girl here)But WE WILL RECOVER:yep:

IDK I was just using heat too much. I know...I hate to admit it I blowdryed...then a few days later washed and blowdryed and then flatironed. My hair has been breaking since November. My hair is still healthy LOOKING and has a nice sheen yes, but it fragile, thin and damaged. I know my hair and I should have WAY more hair on my head. I am so embarassed of this pony puff I am rocking right now. I can't wait to get home and saturate my hair in protein.

Also I just trimmed off a lot of knots, tell me why they are back AGAIN. Thanks for the support everyone and letting me vent.

Well I am going to go grab something to eat before I go to work. I am just trying not to think of this. I have had damaged hair before WAY back when and I know how to get it back healthy. I am just trying to see the difference in 6 months. So much for me rocking my fro out this summer. I'll keep ya'll updated when I have good news.

Good Luck GeminiGirl. I would keep it twisted for a while. I don't do "protective styles" per se with my hair..never have. I used to wear my relaxed hair either curly from rollersets or in a half twist held up by chopsticks--my ends can't stand to be 'touch' like with a bun.

Also I have been using direct heat from my flat iron--did it twice in the past month. I use my Hana flat iron at 302-320F. I am too afraid of heat damage to blowout AND flat iron---so I only flat iron it. Just take care with the heat and some PS aren't PSes, you know?

sorry about your set back.
it'll get better.
after you do the hard protein and a good moisture treatment i think you should twist you hair and keep it like that for a week or two and then redo them. do that for a few months and see where you are then.

I totally understand the feeling. I would probably have to blame most of my setbacks (70-85%), maybe more on the blowdryer. For some natural's, it's magic, for me, it's asking for trouble.

I can't even say it's the comb from it, it's the darn heat itself.

A setback is so upsetting, but at least you know what to do to get your hair back on track.

Warmer weather is on it's way, hopefully you'll get some growth spurts and that setback will become ancient history.:yep:

Sorry about your setback. I totally understand, I have had a few. I was stuck at the same length for the longest. The damage doesn't look too bad from your pics. You will recover. Limit the heat, try half wigs or something to keep your hair hidden for a while or go w/the twists. Dcing is usually very helpful when recovering from breakage..

I'm sorry about the setback but me it doesn't look as bad but you know your own hair. I know it is additive to use the blowdryer & flatiron b/c I have already did this 3x this year and I'm scared of having a setback also. Your hair will bounced back so don't stress it out.

Sorry about your setback even though I see no problem...but you know your hair better than me :)

I wanted to ask you a question. I see that you joined the castor oil challenge do you think the castor oil is a problem? I know for myself I used to use castor alot to seal because it seemed to work for a lot of ladies here especially for thickness and softness; however it took me a long time to realize that the castor oil would dry my hair out something fierce later in the day (even though when I used to put it on my hair would feel soft) and contributed to dry ends and breakage. Now all I do is keep it simple and use Kinky curly knot today as a leave-in and no more dry hair/ends.

HTH!

No I can't say it's the JBCO. I braided my hair in yarn braids during thanksgiving and kept my hair braided til I don't know Janurary, I redid my whole head during Christmas time. I can't remember when I got my JBCO but when I got it it was BEAUTIFUL. When I took my braids out my hair was shiney and my roots thicker. Plus my hair had grown.

JBCO works great for me, I did think about this though because JBCO was giving me the itchies but nope, JBCO and my hair get a long quite well. I think this is me not taking care of my hair the way I should have.

I wish I could take some better pics. My hair for the most part has just thinned out drastically and I have some breakage areas throughout my hair. But maybe since you all say it's not that bad, MAYBE, it will recover soon.

I can try and make my twists last 14 days, I'ma shoot for 10. I hate frizzy hair. well twists or cornrows.

I did my Aphogee treatment. I am DC right now. Aphogee stinks. Kinda like ACV and stinkiness lol. I hope it worked though. I am using ORS mixed with that balancing condtioner. I heard it sucks so I gotta use it up somehow.

One more thing. That Aphogee was burning and stinging when I put it on. It burned my scalp, my cut, my hands. OUCH. IS it suppossed to do that. It's strong. It didn't say wear gloves so IDK but ooohhh weeee it's strong.

Girl, this was me last year - not this specific setback but a setback nonetheless. Here's to a speedy recovery.

Ok well I plaited my hair for the night. I forgot I have an appt in the morning. My hair is still breaking shedding/ I guess it's not as bad as before. I guess I will do another treatment in six weeks if need be. I think I will use my Infusim 23 leave in and some Scurl and some oils and make a spray since Infusium has protein in it. I hope this stops.
