Itching For A Deva Cut

I’m in need of a makeover and have spent the weekend watching YouTube diy deva cuts and professional deva salon cuts.

I washed and called myself doing a wash n go. Mine doesn’t look like theirs. LOL ( grows out, not down)

I’ve never been to a salon and I’ve been trimming myself. (Kinda uneven, right?)
I told myself I was gonna give myself my next trim in December. I don’t straighten normally and only wear puffs and twist outs
But, like I said I want a makeover. Yet, don’t do my hair. How does that work? LOL

The deva cuts start cutting curl by curl on dry hair, so I’m sitting here air drying debating on whether to just leave my hair alone, call myself shaping it up a bit, or finding a salon to hook me up

Your hair is gorgeous! I say, treat yourself to the professional deva cut. It's the least you can do to treat yourself after working so hard to create such a healthy head of hair.

What is your end goal for your hair and would a deva cut hinder that goal? These are questions to ask yourself. Maybe its time for a protective style if you need a change.

Thank you. I never thought about that. In that case, a deva cut wouldn’t hinder me growing healthy hair, I just want to be able to pull it up for those days I don’t do it

I wonder though, since my hair doesn’t hang, if it would look like a poodle though

You’re beautiful and so is your hair! I’ve been feenin for a deva cut as well, and have been stalking a few local salons. I may just go for it - I need to do something before my baby arrives in September. My hair is a mess now and all I do is bun.

Oh no. Not a poodle I would consider that longgg and hard. Try to find someone with your hair type and length on youtube who has gotten a deva cut to see a real example of how it would look. It might look nice on a different hair type and not look anything like that on you.

Your hair is so cute! I didn't see any dead curls or split ends; every curl is poppin! And you say you want a Deva Cut, but it looks like you already have one. Beautiful!

You know I love your hair @guyaneseyankee and I agree with Leo that your hair looks good like it's growing out of a good cut. It's so full and looks really healthy. I say go for it so you can enjoy your shape. You can always tell them not take off too much because you still want to be able to wear your hair up.

Stylists + scissors + cutting on DRY HAIR = one big HEL NO for me.

I think your shape is cute as is. But I'd treat myself the salon just for the experience. I did back in late April (got a cut but not a deva cut). It's my new favorite salon. I'd actually never want my hair cut wet or straight again.

Same here. I get a Deva cut 2-3 times per year.

I always wondered how good these cuts are on our hair? If it were really worth it I would certainly treat myself. Do they product push? Depending on price, if u love it maybe it could be a treat every so often to maintain? Your hair has a nice shape already I bet the cut would give u the extra umph. Keep us posted

I just got my hair Devacut last week, and I've been getting them for three years. OP, you'll probably want to keep your length, but maybe get some of the heaviness from the top off to give you a bit more styling flexibility. If I wasn't so lazy I'd show you what my hair looked like before Deva, and what it looked like after. Suffice to say, my curls pop a lot more and hold a better shape. I'm currently growing my hair out, so I'm just getting my hair trimmed (still using the Deva method though).

And I get full color and highlights along with my cut, so it costs more than just a Devacut.

Outside of maybe trying Ouidad cut one day, I'll be sticking with Deva method as long as I wear my natural hair--it's been a game changer for me.

Get the Deva cut. It changed my life, gave my hair shape and movement. I no longer get them just because I don’t feel like going on all day trips to NYC but I definitely recommend it .

They don’t product push but they do tell you what they’re using and their products are great .

Nope! Their One Condition and Heaven in Hair have been my HGs ever since my first Deva cut over 5 years ago. The ingredients really bring out the definition in my curls.

Oh, and the price - I used to go to Soho and a junior stylist was around $80, which I thought was very reasonable.

I've watched someone get it done and they really cut a lot off. The cut looked great, but if you're attached to your length, I dunno and if you miss a cut, it will grow in super weird. I respectfully disagree. My experience was that they cut my hair in such a way as to remove some bulk but I still had length. I didn't find any issues with the grow out process and they told me they only recommend haircuts twice a year.

They removed bulk for sure, but in this case they said every four months for cuts and I felt like the bigness of the hair was gone. The person went from having a big bushy ponytail, to one half the size and kind of wimpy. It did look super good, though. How much are they now? 300?

I could see that. They are definitely shaping the hair to be worn loose, not in a beautiful bun.

Ohhhhh thank you !!! Are these your staples? Which of their gel and moisturizer/leave in do you really like?

$80 for the cut? That's not bad at all... I'm assuming that's the cut and wash n go. I was thinking it was more in the $150+ price range.

Sunday, what I call giving myself a wash n go, has reaped nice curls.
I'm so scared of it being messed up, that I think I'm going to grow it out some more and revisit a professional trim in December.
I think I can call this a protective style since it's not matted like it would be without product.
(I learned something new with this)

It's currently is a puff, and I'd say a BAA when I remove my headband. My hair doesn't fall like this without product in it. And it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought doing this wash n go in sections and shingling.
I can get with this. Who knew. I guess it'll change everyday until I wash my hair.
I'm going to go to the bathroom and take a picture.
