Is it more difficult to lose weight or to grow hair

This is a question I was thinking about yesterday. I lost a significant amout of weight last year about 30lbs and now I'm trying to do the same for my hair why does this task seem more challenging than losing weight. Tell me your opinions

I think it's all about what's important to you. I've been saying I'm going to lose weight forever, but my mind hasn't caught up with my intentions. I still do everything that I shouldn't be doing and haven't been willing to give up anything. With my hair, I focused on it, and was determined to grow it long and make it look good no matter what. That's why I saw results.

This is just my opinion. It seems that you probably are doing what you need to do and just need the patience to see the results. I know if you can lose all that weight, you can do it with the time and effort you are going to put into it.

First, congrats on your 30 lb. weight loss! :D

I am way too familiar with both of these topics. I'm always trying to lose weight (I lose, gain, lose, gain, etc.) and am worrying about my hair.

I've learned how to lose the weight and keep it off. Now I'm learning how to take care of my hair properly and achieve length. Now, if I can just learn how to do both at the same time.....:ohwell:

Anyway, to answer your question: losing weight probably seems easier to you because you can see the results a lot sooner than you do when growing your hair. We can lose 5-10 lbs. in a month but the average growth of hair is .5"-1" per month.

I'm sure as you know from losing weight, it comes off very slowly and then BAM, it looks like you dropped 30 lbs. overnight. I'm sure that's what'll seem like happened with our hair over the next year. Remember, slow and steady wins the race so just hang in there! A year from now, you'll be very happy that you did. :)

Congrats Shea on your weight loss.:) . That's a lot. I've been exercising for 30/40 minutes 5/7 times a week for the past year and have only lost 10lbs, so I'm going to say lose weight. I can't say I'm on any particular diet but I've been modifying what I eat by staying away from fats and sugar, using low-fat milk and the like. Eventually I think I'll lose the additional 10lbs but it's not going away quickly....

Wow, congratulations on you weight loss! That's great!

For me losing weight is harder. Much harder. As long as I don't abuse it with heat, my hair grows and retains length. But I love to cook and eat. Way too much. I'm always trying a new recipe and then eating half the pot myself.

It is easier for me to grow hair than to lose weight. I get growth every month but sometimes even when I diet, I can't lose weight. However, it is harder for me to retain my growth than to lose weight.

I think losing weight is harder for me because it takes more effort on my part. My hair grows just fine on its own, and I retain as long as I take care of it and that's easy. It is harder for me to resist Golden Oreos than it is for me to keep my hair moist and conditioned. :)

Thank goodness I don't really have a weight problem, but I really have to watch what I eat and exercise to maintain my weight and it gets hard to do that.

exactly. :)

Lawd! Thanks for starting this thread. I am SO>>>>>>there<<<<<< with you but in reverse.
I'm diligent w/ my hair but my behind is, well, kinda wide.:D
I guess for me since I have SO much to lose I just kinda throw my hands up.....

I get that if I'm patient I will see my body change (as my hair did) but I just feel overwhelmed and a little depressed when I look at my (disappearing) waistline and feel like, what's the point?

I guess the reality is that it doesn't make sense to have long, flowing, beautiful hair and die of a stroke....:perplexed

I would have to say losing weight, hands down. I have battled weight all my life but I can cut my hair and it will all grow back within a few months or a year. Since 2004, I have lost over 110 pounds and have managed to keep it off. I did the big chop for my hair last April and had about 1-2 inches of hair. Now I have gone back to the perm and have about 6 inches. I went through a lot to lose that weight ( I had surgery) but for the hair, I am just giving it some TLC. Weight is harder to lose, hands down!!!

i think it's partly biological, and partly behavioral.

some people lose weight with no effort and grow hair quickly. others have to put more effort into it. some people put lots of effort and hard work into losing weight/growing hair, and because they are determined they succeed. some people (like myself) get motivated easily and then lose motivation easily... so it's more of a challenge to accomplish a goal because they don't stay on the task at hand.

for me, it's easier to grow hair. mine grows fast and is relatively healthy, even back when i abused the heck outta my over-relaxed, heat-fried and color-dyed hair! now me losing weight... well, actually that was easy too. i just can't seem to get rid of this post-pregnancy pooch. i'm not dedicated enough to abdominal exercises... i need a coach... :orders:

Counting calories is easy (although resisting temptation is not so easy), but trying to figure out what my hair needs has been a big challenge.

Love the thread!

It is more difficult to lose weight. You can do absolutely nothing to your hair and hair will grow. Retention is different. It takes mass effort to lose weight. Hats off to the lady who lost 30lbs. I am on that mission of weight loss right now. It is a true struggle.

It takes me a lot more effort to lose weight yet niether is very easy.

Ladylibra I just looked up at the thread and I must say your avatar pic is coilalicious lol!

It goes hand and hand for me. I know growth comes with my joggin and stuff... I lost weight quickly but gain it back just as quick right now im pushing 165 but im trying maintain (i want to lose it) it 4now I'm foscing on my growth and deit...
LORD GIVE ME DA STRENGTH!

I don't have to bother with my weight everyday like I do with my hair. If I could grow hair like I've been able to lose weight (57lbs) then I'd be waist length by now!

Losing weight seems like it was much easier for me. Even though I've been losing weight for 7 months. I guess I'll see what my hair looks like 7 months from now and then I'll be able to determine for sure.

Girrrrrrl you and me both!! My daughter will turn 3 next week and I STILL have that pg pooch....ugh.

Its easier for me to lose weight, if i go on my fruit diets, exercise and get a routine going the lbs will melt off like hot butter.:D but this hurr on my head is another story, this hair takes its sweet time to grow.

grow hair for me.......i cant seem to GAIN weight. I try but i cant seem to keep weight on. I've been tryin to get thick for the longest:grin:

It is more difficult to lose weight and keep it off. At least, that's my opinion. I've lost dozens of pounds in the past, but then more crept back on each time. With hair, once I started doing the right things, the easier it is to maintain with very few setbacks. Nothing like the yo-yo effect I have with my wait.

Losing weight and keeping it off requires some kind of diligence that I haven't figured out yet -- and I've ben on and off diets for 20 years. I've only been growing my hair for a year and already it's just become easy to do.

Right now weight is harder for me to lose. I've just started getting motivated for the month of January. I was getting discouraged, then I realized I lost two pounds today. Honestly, like someone said...Its all about what important to YOU.

Weight loss is much harder for me, growing longer hair has been a breeze. I'm hitting my mid-30s and after a lifetime of effortless skinniness, I'm starting to get the spread--and it sucks so bad. I'm not accustomed to curbing my already basically healthy diet or regular exercise, but gaining length has been fun and easy so... I'd rather grow hair any day than have to deal with my weight. Gah.

I would definantly have to say Growing Hair! I eat like you would never beleive and can not seem to fit nicely in a pair of Apple Bottoms! I'm tired of wearing straight legged jeans!!:(

Lucky you ...I vote for weight as well. I have to "do" so much to work out but washingand caring for my hair is just a given

I feel that focusing on health first always results in healthy, longer hair as well as a healthy body.

Some people who want longer hair actually are focusing on the opposite, by focusing on what can go wrong (setbacks). Of course, this creates more setbacks.

Focus only on what can go right. Always keep the image of your long, beautiful, healthy hair in your mind's eye. That's the image your hair will grow towards, no matter what you see in the mirror. This same technique works for weight loss or any goal.

Congratulations on your weight loss!:)
