Is anyone NOT on the Ayuvedic bandwagon?

I'm not... I dunno if it works either way. But it just seems super complicated.

It really does. The Henna didn't work for me. I had to trim because of it. I like EVOO in my conditioner but that's about it. I really don't feel like taking the time out for it.

Another thing. I never understood people who relax and ride the Ayuvedic wagon. Isn't that some sort of oxymoron? Just sayin....

I'm not yet, but I would like for someone to post some reputable websites where I can order Amla oil, Shikakai oil and Vatika oil and Bhranghi thingie. I know this is mispelled.

Try Amazon.com They ship quick! I got it from The Indian Food Store

I'm not on the bandwagon because Ayurvedic products aren't what I see as essential for growth :ohwell:

IMO, there are other products/techniques that would produce the same results (stronger, more moisture, etc.)

I don't down anyone whose doing Indian regimes, but I just don't see it as necessary for my own hair health.

Plus, I'm a pj as it is and the last thing I need is to be jumping on another bandwagon (this is what I told myself after buying $75 worth of Joico products at Trade Secret on Monday :lachen: )

I'm not on the Ayuvedic bandwagon because I already have a solid regimen and spent a lot of money recently to stock up on everything I love. I couldn't imagine spending anymore money on products that may or may not agree with my hair when I'm cool with what I've got.

co-signing

Was it something in the book that turned you off?

No I loved the book. The 250 page book only covered haircare on 6 pages. It just does not seem like something I want to use as the the focus of my skin/hair care, though. It talked about using aromatherapy for my eczema. :ohwell: I don't know if I should try that or not.

It talks about how an Ayurvedic diet "will keep your body beautiful". Most was common sense - High in whole grains, low in fat, low in refined sugars, high in minerals. But this part was interesting - it is low in animal proteins, yet high in vegetable proteins while being high in fresh organic foods.

Anyway, overall I enjoyed reading the book, but I don't think jumping a "bandwagon" Incorporating some of the ideas in seems like something to try, for overall health, but not necessarily for my haircare.

I enjoyed the book, though.

I'm waiting to see how long this bandwagon lastt o see if I'll jump in. Right now, I'm all about keeping it simple.

I thought about it but I haven't been able to source any products as yet and I'm not really too bothered since my regimen is pretty solid and working,

I am not on the Ayuvedic Bandwagon, But I do use the Vatika Oil,Amla Oil & Shikakai Oil. I haven't seen any Faster growth, But it has really helped with my Daughters Dry ,Flaky ,Itchty, Irritated Scalp, It keeps it moist all week Long, Now all this other stuff I ain't into,I have used these Oils way before the Bandwagon started. I used other oils on her scalp and they just didn't work, But these oils are great and I will continue to use them.

I tried the oils but it loosened up my curls way too much and it made my hair too thick. Plus it was too much work for my sorry self. The only thing I liked that I tried was the coconut oil. I'm just gonna stick with what I was doing.

ashame its called a bandwagon though, like someones driving and the rest are just following without a clue - i hope that isnt the case!

I wouldn't say I'm on the ayurvedic bandwagon. However, I do use amla oil and henna. I also use turmeric on my face. I'm not sure if this can be used in the hair (turmeric), but I'm sure some ladies would say yes!

Right now I'm transitioning, and I'm not going to buy any more products until I use what I've got. I have enough products to easily last me for the year:yep: (I'm a PJ):lachen:

Yeah! What she said:grin:.

I tried some of the oils early on in my journey which started January 2007.
I mean the oil that i used smell like peanut butter and eucalyptus to the 1000th power. The smell gave ME a headache.
I think I wouldn't have cared if it made my hair grow 10 inches in a month.
I washed that stuff outta my hair and threw it away.
My husband said "look I can take you smelling like bacon (MTG), but a minty peanutbutter sandwich is too damn much now!":lachen:

I'm not.

I have nothing against, I just haven't tried it. The only Indian product I use is Amla oil.

I don't consider myself on the bandwagon. I tried Henna when I first joined. Henna was just too much for me. Soon after I began using Amla Oil for the darkening properties mainly and Shikakai Oil for my shedding and growth stimulation.

I'm severly tempted to try it but in some ways I'm scared, only because I think the products might stink or smell un-pleasant. I have Dabur Amla oil and holy cow that stuff is rank. I have a sensitive sense of smell and I can't take it! If they all smell like that I just can't stomach this regimen:nono:.

I may invest in some Vatika oil though. I hear that smells ok.

this is NOT addressed to any particular posters. just my thoughts and feelings. I do not consider any of my regime a bandwagon. I do what works for me, I use what works for me. I used to share everything, but it seems that when people share anything it suddenly becomes labeled a bandwagon, people and their ideas often unfairly get critiqued( due to people not doing their own research, trashed, then used or raved and discarded etc..... so I just quietly do what I do, make what I make and keep my head down. I no longer feel inclined to share. lol, I think I am just tired.....bonjour

I was on it last year for about 4-5months (feb to june). I used the vatika oil (daily and for prepooing), amla oil (for prepooing) and henna (conditioning treatment). I love vatika oil and amla oil. Both made my hair feel good and kept my hair dark. Henna..eehhh..it's okay except it dried my hair out and it is entirely too messy and too much work. As much as I like the oils, I love olive oil ALOT more which is my staple oil that I use for everything. So basically, I love my regimen now and have no intention of hopping back on the Ayuvedic(sp?) wagon for the simple fact that my hair looks and feels alot better now w/my current regi.

Maybe for me not complicated but a little intimidating. For me, it would involve some research and getting use to. I believe aromatherapy-EO have been used to grow hair for the longest so maybe I might just stick with that.

I bought some amla, shikakai and some other powders and have not used them yet. Anybody want em? :) loI had some vatika oil that I use for a pre-poo. I'm gonna keep using that.

I clicked on the link that someone posted in this thread about the history of Ayuveda...umm that scared me: "There is evidence that using some ayurvedic medicine, especially those involving herbs, metals, minerals, or other materials involves potentially serious risks, including toxicity.[20][3][21] A research study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association[22] found significant levels of toxic heavy metals such as lead, mercury and arsenic in 20% of Ayurvedic preparations that were made in South Asia for sale in America."

LAWD! Can I just go back to Sta So Fro and some bergamot grease ...gimmie the BLUE STUFF BABY! lol Even using the blue stuff trips me out because the original essential oil is
gold with a green tinge..lol no telling what else is in there to make it "blue".

I've used ayurveda to maintain my health for about 4 years now. I'd recently considered buying some of the powders to incorporate into my developing regime (I'm still feeling my way through) it does seem rather time consuming and complicated. Then I realized that what I have is working and working well. Why change it?
