I'm going to see a professional

I'm done trying to fool with it. I've got hair growth down to a science. I get at least 6" per year with no problem. My issue is retention. My hair doesn't like wet bunning, or really any bunning. I have fragile hair and I know it. so bands or any sort do damage unless i move them to a new location daily.

So, i'm calling in the big guns. A local stylist whose work I've seen and who does a couple of my friends hair is going to give me a consultation tomorrow.

I've seen their hair growing under her care and it's healthy.

What questions should I ask? What should I look for? I was gonna wash my hair tonight and leave it naked and just put it in a pony so she could access my hair minus any leave-ins or products working. I haven't been to a stylist in years. i'm nervous but i'm ready.

I'm warning yall, she cuts fierce. I may get a little trim :d

Write down what you want to say to the stylist. Make sure you are comfortable with them. Tell them your goals and what you want to achieve. Just make sure YOU feel comfortable and will achieve the results you want. HTH.

Wow, I haven't been to a stylist since 2004! I wouldn't know what to say!lol Just make sure you make it clear that you want a trim and not a 4-8 inch cut from hair. I mean take a ruler if you have to and makes sure you take your wide tooth comb(s) and a MIRROR!!!!

Yeah, that's about when the last time was that I've been to one. . .well, i went to the beauty school for a roller set. . .but that doesn't count. lol

I will take my comb and mirror, thanks. From the two people I know whose hair she does, she is big on low manipulation so I don't forsee her snatching a rat tail comb through my hair. She teaches you how to pin curl it and wrap it up and finger comb it. I think i'm gonna like her.

I was very pleased with my consultation today.

First of all, she didn't even pick up a comb and try to do anything. She did dig her hands all up and through my head though. Which was good, means she's hands on.

Just as I suspected, she suggested I get off the box relaxers. She is knowledgable y'all. She said(what we all know) that the chemicals in the relaxers can clogged your pores, cause damage which leads to dryness and excess shedding.

Then she asked when my last relaxer was. . .12/24/10. I was shocked when she had to actually think about whether or not I needed a relaxer. This made me VERY happy. She says most of her clients go 8-10 weeks. Some longer. One client is at 26 weeks. :yep:

She suggested that I need a treatment, Dudley's DRC. I think I've heard about it on the board but never used it.

She was straight forward and told me that my hair isn't in bad condition overall, but that I'd need a major trim that would be more like a cut. I'm happy with that. health over length is my new mantra. She also told me what you ladies had suggested in my thread about the shears. She said some shears can just add to split ends.

So on Saturday I'll be getting this DRC treatment and whatever else I need to stop this aweful shedding. I'm also getting a relaxer and a cut. I didn't ask what relaxer they use, but I saw a sign on the window for Kenra.

I'll be back with pics soon.
