This thread is for those who have been on this forum for 2 years or more. I'm just wondering if you have reached your goal length with success, and how long did it take you to reach it.

What were your setback if any?

Also if you haven't reach your goal, can you please explain why you think so.

Good post. No I am no where near my length goal. However, my hair is much healthier now than pre LHCF. The reason I think I have not reach my length goal has less to do with hair maintenance. I have undergone stress related events the last couple of years and also I believe that due to hereditary my hair will not reach my goal.

I've been here since the beginning. Quit. Came back. Reached my goals, had set backs, cut it, reached my goals again, on my way to another goal.... it's been a curvy winding ride :yep: It took about 2.5 years to reach my goals.

I have reached my initial goals :yep:

My goal has not been this length or that length.

I came here to learn how to bring my hair back to life. I had to cut huge chuncks of hair after weave matting. It was horrible. :nono: After much growing - cutting - growing - cutting - you cannot even tell where the damaged was. :yep:

Another goal of mine was to stop depending on braids and wear my own hair. I surpassed that goal. I can't even wear braids anymore without getting sick of them after a few weeks.

One setback I had was with the blowdryer. I started using one with a comb attachment a year after I came here. That thing chewed away all of my progress. I felt like I had to start all over - 1 whole year - GONE!

Another setback was some relaxer damage. I had some major hair loss in one section that I am still trying to grow out. I believe I did not rinse the relaxer out well enough. I was also under a lot of stress during the time. It is growing in nicely though. Even still, not one can tell it is there because it is well hidden thank goodness.

I am not sure I will ever be all about length like many ladies here. I just want my hair to be pretty and thick and I am not that pressed about it being APL, BSL, etc.

Not yet, but I expect to be close by the end of this year. I spent all of last year cutting away weak damaged hair that turned into split ends.

So in effect, I have been growing my hair for 5 months.

I have been here a hot minute now

My setbacks
my starting point: My starting length was decent by my hair was BADLY damaged. It was thin, red from damage and porosity problems, dry, breaking, and the list goes on. I had to grow out ALL of that hair before I could start moving forward.

Then....I was still being overprocessed. Whether I was going to a stylist or doing it myself, I was still overprocessing myself by not protecting my previously relaxed hair and using a relaxer too strong for me.

Protein Overload- it took me close to a year to realize that my source of constant mild breakage was from protein overload; not properly using protein, not understand what a TRUE moisturizing conditioner was

From the relaxer run off, I have had to steadily trim my hair because of split ends and those blasted L shaped end thingys :wallbash:

I haven't reached my length goal but I have met my health goals. I didn't meet my length goals because of the reasons above, although I did meet my length goal for last year. I don't know if I will reach my length goal for this year by Dec.

This thread is for those who have been on this forum for 2 years or more. It was 2 years for me this January.

I'm just wondering if you have reached your goal length with success, and how long did it take you to reach it. I reached length goal- just past(BS) in a year, give or take. I also have learned to manipulate my hair and care for it better so that my PCOS shedding is practically non existant *Thank you ladies of LHCF*.

I have not completely reach my health goal- (1) over come the breakage in my nape area (2) regrow both of my temples.

What were your setback if any? The nape- Soaking wet ponytails w/elastic bands and letting it get too dry. I'm still sorta dealing with it. I've chopped and hope to maintain length there as a natural.

The temples- For the most part, it's just hormonal and if I dont eat/exercise my temples suffer. I havent found any product, so far, that w/change that. *I'm still looking though- lol*.

Also if you haven't reach your goal, can you please explain why you think so. I have a new goal. My new goal is to learn to maintain, style and enjoy the health of the natural texture of my hair. That's not to say that I'd never perm or texturize, but I'd like to learn more about the natural me before I decide to change, if I decide to change. I'd love to be able to rock some of the natural styles I see here... they're so striking and regal.

Interesting thread!

I have been here for 2 years this month.

I reached my initial goal to successfully transition to natural. I was definitely going back to relaxers before I found this site. I did that. CHECK!

My second goal was to reach APL. I reached that goal a couple months ago. CHECK!

My final goal is to reach BSL and then just enjoy my hair and progress. I plan to reach that goal by December....hopefully :look:

So I would say that altogether it would have taken me about 2.5 year to reach all my hair goals.

I've been here for 4 years this month!

I haven't reached my goal, but I really didn't get serious about my 'hair game' until April '06.

I was too much of a PJ and was not consistent with any 1 regime:ohwell:

Hopefully, this time next year I'll be full APL:up:

ETA: I constantly caused my own setbacks by continuing to allow my stylist to cut off my progress:wallbash:

I reached my initial goal of BSL a long time ago

My new goal is WL but I'm a trimaholic and a sucker for blunt ends all the way around so I've been stuck just below BSL for quite some time. I'm also less focused on growing now cause' I'm happy with the length. I'm more focused on keeping it healthy.

I havent had any real setbacks, I've been lucky. My hair was already in the best shape ever when I got here because I had been natural for a few years and got great info from NP. I did texturize and I never had any intentions of doing that but I came right in the midst of the Phyto hype that was sweeping the board and got caught up . That's the biggest difference.

Hey there.

I actually went beyond my hair length goal!!!! My goal was waist length when i first came to the forum five years ago. and i have actually had some setbacks. I believe i had to cut a lot of my hair off twice within the five-year period. oh well. as long as it is healthy... smile...

I have been here a while and I have not reached goal. Partialy because of PJism and hair color.

For about 3 years everything new that showed up on the board I tried or did (CW, daily washing, hennalucent, no heat all). Most did not help my hair.

If I could have half of the money I spent on products I threw out I would be debt free.

These past two years I have made the most progress. First, I stopped reading the hair board that much. I went back to what made my hair grow before LHCF, because I had nice hair until I started trying everything. I also limited by spending, because I was spending ridiculous amounts on products. I am slowly by surely reaching my goals, and next year I plan on switching to a salon line (Keracare).

No set goals originally, other than to see how long my hair could grow.

What were your setback if any?

That two year anniversary pressing, burnt the right temple hair, and my hair looked ratty and chewed up in subsequent twists. 8 months later and I can see it filling out again.

Also if you haven't reach your goal, can you please explain why you think so.

I reviewed some old pictures from two years ago. It is almost embarrassing to see where I started from compared to now. I was probably 4 to 6 inches in length, with poor styling ability. Luckily I didn't have any shame. Growth and health and thickness come with time and patience. Now I am 7 to 13 inches in length, with one major trim. My ultimate goal is probably brastrap length, all natural. Jeve

Wow your hair looks great, whats your regimen?

The goals that I wanted to reach as of this date I have reached now it is getting to the next two years of goals.

My only setbacks have been two surpise surgeries in two years so that caused some stunting of growth in my opinion. For a lot of reaons. Could not do deep conditioning, no regular washings, no nothing....and a lot of medications to boot!

My next goal is to get to MBL by end of December this year. I am going slow and being very careful not to stress over where my length is throughout the year. :yep:

thanks, sassy... here is my regimen....

My hair care regimen is really simple…nothing special….smile….

When it comes to my Crown and Glory, I use mainly natural organic products. Over time, this has definitely made a marked improvement in the condition of my hair. My hair is constantly growing and has incredible length and shine. My moisture-thirsty tresses love to be basked in Aubrey Organics (AO) Honeysuckle Rose, GPB, and Jojoba&Aloe shampoos and conditioners.

Every two weeks, the evening prior to visiting my beautician, I give my hair an overnight hot oil treatment. The next morning my beautician massages my scalp for 10 minutes prior to shampooing my hair. After rinsing and towel drying my freshly shampooed hair, she applies a generous amount of conditioner to my hair. I always ask her to detangle my hair while the conditioner is in it. She then covers my conditioned hair with a plastic cap. I sometimes sit under the steamer for 30 minutes, or I just let the conditioner sit in my hair for two hours without any type of heat. After she rinses the conditioner from my hair, she applies and rinses my hair with a detangling rinse (either AO Honeysuckle Rose conditioner or Nacidit Olive Oil rinse). She then applies Giovanni Direct Leave-in conditioner to my hair before she sets it with magnetic rollers. It usually takes my hair two hours to dry.

Once every two months, I clarify my hair with AO’s

On a daily basis, I sport a classic bun or a loosely curled ponytail. Every evening I lightly oil my hair, focusing on the ends with a heavenly mixture of castor oil, jojoba oil, and wheat germ oil or Phytospecific Beauty Styling Crème (PBS Crème) before setting the ponytail length of my hair with rollers. The PBS Crème really helps the hair to hold curls longer. It is amazing.. I then cover my hair with a satin or silk scarf before retiring for the evening.

Because it only wreaks havoc on my tresses, I never blow dry or wrap my hair …..

I'm still had bra-strap, which is fine with me. My problem is my hair is continuing to thin out, especially in the middle section going straight down to the nape area. My edges have not gotten any thicker...instead they have thinned out even more and the hair in that area is very weak.

I'm coming up on four years as a member here, and I did reach my first goal of making it to bra strap as a relaxed head (I went from APL to bra strap in about eight months). Then last year, I started transitioning back to natural, so I got a major hair cut in September 2007 from BSL to below shoulder length. My next goal is to get BACK to bra strap (still transitioning). After I make that goal, then I'll probably cut off my relaxed ends and be totally natural and start a third goal of getting back to BSL as a full natural. The goals are always changing. :drunk:

Good thread. I actually found this site in 2005, but I was slowly transitioning and it took me several months to cut off all my relaxed ends, and I lurked on the board for a long while. I BC'd late '05...had a teeny tiny weeny afro. In May 2006, when I signed up, I believe I was just passed ear length. When I first signed up, my goal was BSL. I beleive when I relax next month, I'm pretty much there...I may have been there for months already, but I have a lot shrinkage...so I am not claiming it yet.

So, give or take, I went from EL to BSL in that two year period. Along the way, I suffered at least 5 or 6 set backs, due to a great deal of tangling and matting and scissor happy stylists. But in the past 6-9 months, I have finally gotten a hold on my regimen. And for the first time, I am retaining my growth AND no tangles, less breakage, no matting. It took me a while to figure out my mistakes.

Now, I am focused on growing out the layers, and my new goal is full mid back length, which will most likely take another 2 years or so.

I joined almost three years ago. (I can't believe it!) Soon after I joined, I did the b/c. I think at that time, my goal was waist length. I reached that length and continued on. I'm at hip length when stretched presently and my next goal is tail bone. I have had some problems and frustrations along the way, that's for sure. And I still do. But I've been lucky that I haven't had to cut.

I have not yet reached my goal length (which is past shoulder length but not quite APL). As a natural I had many issues with split ends and breakage which resulted in a number of big trims. I think by the end of this year I will reach my goal. Just have to be patient :)

It’ll be 4 years in Oct. since I’ve been a member here.
My initial goal was healthier hair, once my hair got healthier the length followed shortly thereafter. I reached my 1st length goal in ‘05 which was BSL. The same year I decided to transition to natural, which was another goal of mine, my transition was pretty long 2 years exactly, during that time my hair hovered between BSL and MBL since I was gradually trimming my relaxed ends. I haven’t had any major setbacks *knocks on wood*, I’ve basically have been sticking with my regimen and only tweaking it here and there when need be. My current length goal is waist length, I plan to reach that goal this Sept.

I came here in '05. I havent achieved my goal. Well my hair was growing a little bit at one point but then I cut it because I had to start over.

I didn't start a regime until 2006. I have had many setbacks. ALL from stylists. I had one burns off parts of my hair with the pressing comb and two of them not wash out the relaxer properly, leaving me with broken patches. Right now my whole nape is broken off and I'm trying to nurse it back to health.

I also haven't been consistent with my diet and I believe that's why my growth is so slow and then I usually end up trimming what growth I get when I get a relaxer. :ohwell:

I have reached 1 of my goal lengths. I wanted BSL hair when I first joined but now since I realized that we can grow our hair beyond the norm. I now want to be MB:yep: or possibly WL:blush: I have not had any setbacks, thus far and I think that's because I stick to what works for me. Now taking care of my hair is second nature and most of all. Since finding LHCF, I've learned to love my hair by taking care of it and in return my hair is loving me back:-)
