when I joined BHM - 3 years ago.... I had been natural 6 years - and I was learning even more.

Hmmm............ When I came here... I was hardly a "newbie" to hair care.

I think all of us have things to learn here.

I don't listen to Bad advice.... It does not matter how long someone has been on the board.

i ignore the newbie crap. we're all here to learn. newbie or not.

if you are a newbie or a 5 year veteran on the board, it really doesn't matter. everyone here has different hair that reacts differently to different methods. so when i ask a question or seek advice, i'd rather take the advice from someone who has hair that is somewhat similar to mine.

and even then, the answer isn't a sure thing.

hair health is still a personal journey. no one answer is better than any other for any person.

I believe you can learn a little something for anybody. From the oldest person to a child, to a bum on the street. I guess I am open-minded that way.

And alot of you are right: We don't know your Story or what happened to bring you to this place at this time, but I think we are all here for the same reason. Healthy Hair whether relaxed, Texlaxed or Natural.

So I believe everyone on here can make a valuable contribution (and I'm not just saying that because I'm new).

So, I will use what I can from newbie/oldie whomever, as long as it makes sense, and fits into my Hair Care Regimen and My Hair Care Journey and is not Against the Law, or a Detriment to my health and well being, I'm open. Like they say in church eat the Fish and Spit out the Bones

I think I am as newbie as they come. And I listen to all advice, with of course common sense. If the person has healthy hair (whether it be short, or long) I am more likely to take their advice into consideration, then someone whose hair I have never seen. I like to hear advice from healthy looking relaxed heads for myself. And I like to take advice from healthy looking naturals, so I can take better care of my daughters hair.

But I must admit, and nothing gonna make me run from the advice of a person, like a person with a bad fokti/photo album . It's rare but there have been people giving all sorts of advice, and they hair was damaged, and been like that for years, at least according to they fotki dates.

I admit I look at the hair first. There is this woman at my church who is a licensed cosmetologist. My mom thinks I'm wrong because there is no way in hades I will ever let this woman anywhere near my hair with so much as a comb. Her hair so short and broken that you can see clean through to her scalp (no I am not making that up). I'd expect a competent cosmetologist to know that if people can see your scalp it's time to give up the relaxers and the hair color (yes she does both). Plus, she has three daughters and I have yet to see any of the three with anything other than a jacked up weave!!! Nah son... not the kid (my mother has her nerve because she won't go to her either but I'm evil because I will actually say it out loud)!!!

So, I think the condition of one's hair provides prima facie evidence of competence or lack thereof!

It depends on what their hair looks like. There are some people that have been on for years and their hair still isn't in good shape. I really only listen to tips/reviews from people who have the hair I want with a similar texture to my hair.

I am a newbie and I don't really offer advice. I will consider everyone's advice, without regard to their join date as long as their hair is healthy. I also try to look for people with hair similar to mine and most importantly the condition of the hair.

I'm open to hearing any reasonable ideas. If it's some type of practice that I've never heard of, I might do some independent research to cross check. Like what many here have already said, the proof is in the photos.

I'm still a newbie so I'm subconscious about giving advice. I tend to sit up and take notice when the healthy hair ladies voice their opinion, regardless of LHCF tenure. I also appreciate when someone post something new they learned based on trial and error. So, I respect anyone who is brave enough to chime in. Sometimes it's a tough crowd in here.

I am primarily a lurker and I find the best hair advice to be hidden in the "foundation" of the forum (older threads). If you have a set criteria for accepting advice then it is senseless to start threads. Simply PM the people that you feel can help you.

I sure do discriminate. Newbie = less than 6 months to me though. I mean, you don't have to be into hair for years to get the gist of things. And it depends on what things I'll actually listen to. . .growth aides/growth rates? No. New protective styles or new techniques for detangling? Yes. As long as it doesn't sound clearly retarded.
