You can do it. How many inches do you have now?

You are going to do it by using protective hairstyles, lots of moisture, and gentle handling.

I'll join you, I wouldn't mind 12 more inches of hair. This year wasn't a good hair growing year for me.

That would be an inch a month...I think I would just be setting myself up for disappointment since my hair only seems to grow about .75 inches a month and possibly a little less.
Are you achieving 1 inch a month right now? If so, how? And if not, how do you plan to?
I would love to have 12 inches MORE of natural hair by then but I just know it's not going to happen.

Edited to add:
I didn't mean to come off in a negative way! I do wish you luck!

. I'm just trying to be optimistic and up my biotin dosage big time.

and, chipmunk, I have about an inch now, but I don't want to count that. Whatever's on my head right now, I plan to have it cut off by the time I have 12 inches of natural hair.

I miss being natural...why oh why did I put a relaxer on over the summer.

ah well

at least I know what I won't miss in the future.

I wanna join, I recently did the big chop and would LOVE to try for 12 inches in 12 months. I already dont use heat so I just have to continue with protective styling, contiune with my yeast tablets, work on continuous moisture, and nighly massages...I think this may work

Well, I think it is completely possible but you have to get that vit regemin just right and more protein intake to help boost your growth rate up. You may be able to have it before next December if you stick with your regemin.

I know it is possible because I achieved six inches in six months with the growth varying from 1 to 1 1/2 inches a month. Although I cut about 3 inches off. I am trying to get rid of bone straight relaxed ends. I am currently trying to boost it even more.

So go for it! You can do it!

Hey, finally a challenge I can join. I have about 4 inches in the shortest areas, and about 6 inches in the longest areas. I chopped my hair in jan 2003 and had about a 1/2 inch then. My hair doesn't grown exceptionally fast, so I will strive for 12 inches total by December 2004. So really I am am trying to add 6 inches to what i have. If I can retain 1/2 inch each month I can do it.

Right now hair is in twists and they reach to the bottom of my neck when stretched. They are a little past my kitchen when unstretched. I hope to gain these six inches, so I can do a true ponypuff, possibly even 2 puffs, one on each side. Thanks for inviting me to join. I AM IN, I AM IN, I AM IN!!! Can u tell I am excited.

I'll try i wont set my self up for disappointment though. Do you mean twelve inches of growth added to the length we have now or twelve inches period...i still wanna give it a shot count me in!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm in but I'm shooting for 9" in a year. I plan to do this with protective styles, PLENTY of moisture. I already found all the perfect products and routine for my hair. 3 years of experimenting and I've found what works for me.

dontspeakdefeat, i'm gonna try for that protein uptake for real (I got inspired after reading the post titled "How I got 2 inches in one month." I just need to make sure I incorporate healthy protein.)

tracy, girl....I'm excited too. We seriously need to keep each other updated and encouraged.

karezone...naw anyone can join, I just know that naturals need a little more encouragement and support since we have to worry about that shrinkage factor (or us transitioners are getting fed up).

This sounds good. I think that I will try to gain 12 inches by Dec 2004. I need to sit down and write out a regime that I think that I will be able to handle with me working out and going to school and everything.

I will, keep ya informed. I am probably going to go about this using twists ( if I feel like it) as my protective style, or just a curly afro.

If you dont mind karezone please post your regime. I am so lost on how to get started. I'll try to think of one as well

I'd love to join a growth challenge, but given my past experience I really don't think I can grow 12inches of hair in a year

I think I'll shoot for growing 9 more inches which is still more than I've grown before. I normally gain about 6inches per year after trims. 9 more inches would put me at my goal length of 18-20 inches. My first hair goal is 12inches which I'm hoping to meet my March 2004! I'm currently 9-10.5 inches. Good growing ladies!!! I had to cut off several inches of "training" hair this year, so I have some catching up to do.

Count me in...

I started transitioning as of TODAY...

If I take lots of MSM, I get an inch a month. Plus, I have added one egg a day to my diet.

It can be done...but that would mean the following:

I would have to drink close to a gallon of water a day.
Keep up with the low carb, high protein diet.
Exercise at least 1 hour a day...
Continue the MSM
Continue the No Poo routine
Continue with the Rosemary Spritz Essential Oil in my Leave in conditioner...

Sounds like stuff I should be doing anyway...COUNT ME IN!

Im in!!! But Im totally lost on the regime too. Help. I have relaxed hair I think it's 2c. My natural hair has an S shape, but I think she is mixed and I'm not so her hair isn't exactly the same, so I'll say 2c/3.(i'm talking about the link on the home page that shows you the different types of hair. I don't have pics sorry.

I'm. I cut my hair just about bald a month ago, and it has grown 1/2 inch. So I'm looking for 6-9 inches of growth by next year.

My plan- drink my water- 2 liters day
Do my exercise ( cardio 3x a week)
Raw food
-be a minimalist- do condition washes only and deep cond, and hot oil treatments. No extra products such as mositurizers unless i need to spray with due. ( might chnage once my hair gets longer...more coily means more dry hair).

Im in too. But there's no way I can get 12 inches in a year. So I'll shoot for 9 like a few of the other ladies. But I'll definitely need to step things up a bit:

-More water. I always forget to drink enough throughout the day.
-Do my cardio at least 3X a week. I'm assuming the circulation is beneficial for hair growth.
-Moisture Retention. Less shampooing, more conditioning. Also, stay away from mineral oil!!
-Increase protein intake.
-Maintain vitamin/supplement regime.
