I think I'm going to become a beautician

As I was sitting here massaging my scalp with my homemade shikakai and garlic infused oil, it occurred to me that I love hair so much that I want to aide in the growth, health and beautification of others hair. My Grand was a beautician for over 70 years before she retired at the age of 86! My sister quit her job as a stock broker 10 years ago to do hair full time. I don't know what I was waiting for. It's in my blood and it's obviously in my heart :yep:. I'm going to be a hair care expert first; someone who's focus is on health and length and quite probably a weave goddess second.

I wanted to tell my hair sisters here at LHCF. My obsession with all of your hair has led me to this decision.

Thank you! :bighug:

you now... i've been thinking about doing this as well!!! good job for going for it!

i hesitate because i dont know yet if i love hair... or if i love MY hair lol. but i know i'm not happy in my current field so i dunno

Good luck. Are there any schools in your area? My gma lives in Goldsboro too.
The world can benefit from a stylist who cares about the health and beauty of our hair.

That sounds wonderful! Congratulations for reaching this self-discovery! I would love to get my license (more for the learning process than actual practice) so that I KNEW how to really do my hair. It also wouldn't hurt to bring in some extra money since I'll be a starving grad student soon! :)

Oh please do become a beautician! With what you're getting here about non conventional thinking towards African textures and techniques could be invaluable to a conventional beauty school education.

Please oh please make it clear that naturals of all kinds (loose, dreds, etc) are welcome too. You'll get so much biz. You have np idea how many naturals secretly wish to have their hair done at a salon and just walk out w/ a trim, "wash and go", or w/ a blow dry.

I'm actually looking to relocate! So I'll choose an area that has the school I'm interested in.

I'm getting more and more excited as I think about it because my hair will be a healthy MBL by the time I'm finished training. I'll be able to lead by example as I educate and learn with my clientele. This is going to be so much fun!!

Any ideas as to where you will relocate too?
I will come to your shop.:yep:
People will take you more serious when you lead by example. Nothing like getting your hair done by someone who doesn't maintain their own.
I wish you well.

Girl I know you will be soooo succesfull at it! You are naturally inclined to help other people. Please move over here...me and my daughter will be your first customers!!

Eureka!! I L:heart2:VE IT!!! This will definitely be the case in my salon. I remember I walked into a salon with an oh so cute BAA with a flower tucked behind one ear looking for a trim. They looked scared to death!! Will not be the case in my place. Thank you for this reminder, Jamaraa. My girl...

You are too too kind!! I'm a little torn... currently the choices are Charlotte NC, Columbia SC and Washington DC.

Awww thank you for the kind words, Sis :flowers: I've heard wonderful things about the Northwest so you never know! After I finish school...

Go for it!

ETA: DC has a huge natural population, but not a lot of natural salons. I think if you moved here and made a name for yourself, you'd be in business, easily!

Sheba1,
You will be such a blessing to anyone your hands touch... I believe this is your calling... You are so helpful, kind and encouraging! I know you will do well!
Do it girlie!

Blessed, you are going to make me cry! Girl, you know I'm all mushy  Seriously, thank you for your words of encouragement. I really appreciate it.

YAY!!! Great idea. This seems like a great choice for you. From all of our conversations, it's just e-obvious that you have a gift for hair.
We'd make a great team. My gift is to pay someone and yours is to do the hair.
Let me know where you plan on relocating to. I hope it's DC.

I'm leaning towards the Aveda Institute in Charlotte, NC for training. Probably relocation to DC after that ;)

Good Luck Sheba! I think this is a great idea, and I am happy for you. I've lurked over in the BKT thread for a while and your comments and encouragement have been extremenly helpful! :yep:

Sheba,

I think you would be great!!! Being a beautician seems like SOOOO much fun it won't even feel like "work". You have so much knowledge and that, coupled with your patience, will make you a great stylist. Plus, you have a ton of hair and we all know how rare it is to a beautician with some hair!

I love NC and SC. I did my basic training (Army - many moons ago..lol) at Ft. Jackson and my AIT as well. I love those beautiful pines in SC. :) You'll be fine though wherever you go! I wish you the best and I'll fly to wherever you are to have my BKT done *right*. :)

Thank you, Veejee! We could have that BKT party we're always eluding to. Although, with Cutenss getting her new steamer her spot is looking like the one to crash!

Hey, did I tell you that I bought some Viviscal? Well... a little more than "some" :look: but 6 months worth! :lachen: Girl, I'm trying to get to MBL!! I want MBL with clean ends by the time I graduate hair school. *runs back to reread the part about having patience* :giggle:

Okay so how did I miss this thread....DUH :wallbash: sheba1, I am soooooooooo happy :bighug: for you. I think that you would be beyond fabulous. You have a love for hair that is unique. I would travel to were you are, just to have YOU do my strands. And whether I have a steamer or not, my spot is always open to you and my other BKT, and non BKT e-friends. :yep:

ok, i dont know how i overlooke this. congratulations sheba, i know you will be great. you are so helpful, sweet and kind. it's obvious you have a passion for healthy hair. wish more stylist had this agenda and not just good styling. wish central FL was on that list too. we need more natural friendly salons here.
