So yesterday I decided to have my hair wash and blow-dried. The salon that I usually go to was bit far so I decided to try one that was closer to where I live. Now, one would think that in this economy business would be happy to have customers but apparently if you are the wrong hair type you business in not wanted . At first I tried one place that was closest to me. I wanted to know how much they charge for a wash and set and blow out. I know that normally Mon-Wed. it is usually 15 and up. The first stylist I found I decided to asked her about the salon. She looked at my hair with a puzzled look then spoke to another stylist who then proceeded to grill me she. Her reply was, oh well, your kind of hair, you will have to just blow it out , (insinuating that my hair can't be roller-setted ). I quickly pointed out to her that in fact, I roller set my hair weekly therefore I know it won't be an issue. She again looked at me up and down and said oh, you do huh....well it's $30. Well that was awkward... I said thank you then walked back to my car and had DH drive me to another place . I just knew that this place was not for me. Not to be defeated, I decided to try another Salon that I used to to go when I was relaxed. Mind you, I never had any issues doing my hair there when I was relaxed. So I reasoned that they couldn't possibly have any issues doing my hair now... right?
When I arrived at the second place, I did the exact same thing I did with the first place. This stylist's response was a bit less antagonist than the first ones so I decided to give it a try . I had left my handbag in the car with DH so I left quickly to go retrieve it. I walked back in, stood there for about 30 seconds before the owner (stylist 1) told me to go sit in the back. As I took my seat, the other stylist in the salon at the time noticed that I was waiting to get my hair done. She angrily turned towards the other one and proceeded to talk about me in Spanish erplexed. She was telling the first one that she should not be charging me $30, instead it should be $45$-50. Let me point out that normally the price starts at $17 for a wash and set. I knew that they were charging me nearly double to price but since I didn't want to do it myself I was ok with it. Well the second stylist was not happy about the prospect of working with my kind of hair . She walked towards the wash basin, pulled out a wet wide tooth plastic comb and handed it to me without a word, no instructions, nada. Of course I was a bit confused. Why would this stylist hand me comb? What the hell am I suppose to with this? By the way these are all questions that I asked her. You see the problem was that she couldn't even understand me because she spoke very little English. While sitting there, still a bit confused and going over where I had gone wrong in my life I said you know what *** this . I'm not going to sit here, give them my money and they can't even treat me right. For quick moment I thought about telling them off, but really what would have been the point? One of them wouldn't even have understood me and most likely my rant would have been in kreyol (I tend to do that when I'm upset ). So there I was with a cheap plastic comb in my hand and a fuzzy ponytail on my head contemplating how I should leave this place. Should I diva it or take the graceful route. Ultimately, I opted for the graceful, less dramatic and honestly less immediately gratifying departure. I gently laid the comb on a cart, lifted my bum off the chair and pride off the floor (I admit I was a bit hurt by their treatment of me. I know that my hair is fiyah so why couldn’t they see it too erplexed ) and I just walked out.
Oh I forgot... Below is a pic that I took of the sign of the salon. Lila's Beauty Salon, located on Main street in Bridgeport, CT Both were Domincan Salons btw.
