Hey ladies I have a issue. I just let my sister relaxe mt hair last night. I usually wait 10 to 12 weeks, but I think it's only been 7. The NG was out of control and I looked a hot mess. Anyway everything came out good. This is the first time I let my sister try her hand at relaxing my hair. She did a amazing job. I want to go to the Salon to get my ends cut and a style, but I feel like it would be such a waste because I probably want keep it looking good more than a day or so. I was thinking I would start going weekly and get a roller or wrap set. How often do you ladies go and what do you usually have done? How do you maintain your styles?

Going to a salon weekly to get a rollerset and wrap? Why don't you do it yourself? Do a few searches and you'll be equipped with more than what your stylist knows :look:

if you have money for that I don't see anything with going once a wk or once every two weeks. But I have no idea how to keep the style up..I'm still learning myself.

Well I've never been the type that likes to sit in the beauty shop. It's a waste of time and money to me--when I can just do it myself.

When I was relaxed the only times I'd go were when I needed a precision cut or a relaxer (and half the time I'd do it myself) and a wrap.

But I was always a DIY-er.
Pretty much.

I don't do rollersets--just getting into them.
I just did wraps all the time but I imagine that rollersetting involves some pretty interesting sleeping positions (at least for me it would).

I agree with the previous responses....especially Tiffers. With the information on this forum you can do anything that a stylist does by doing it yourself. I can understand wanting a professional cut but other than that...DIY:yawn:. Yeah you may mess up and your first attempt may not be salon quality but (and I know this is a cliche) practice does make perfect.

Ladies if I could I would. I have been trying for awhile and I just don't seem to be able to get the same results. I HATE Beauty Shops. HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE. I hate waiting after making a app. I hate everything about it, but I need the trim and a professional assessment of my hair's health.

Girl, a lot of stylists aren't as knowledgeable as you think about hair health. Many still rely on oldschool myths and methodology. Take what they say with a grain of salt.

If you decide to go on a weekly basis you can pincurl at night to keep the style up.

However, once I got to hang of rollersetting, my rollersets comes out better than the salon:blush:.

I only go to the salon for my relaxer touch-ups / trims. Occassionally, I may go for a rollerset if I'm having a lazy week:ohwell:.

I totally agree with this statement!

On the other hand, you may luck up and get a stylist that is into healthy hair care practices. I recently found one but I still have total control on the health and care of my hair:yep:.

I actually do know one. I've been several times with my mother for a consultations on her hair. my sister has been and had great results. The stylist is into health hair and her hair is really pretty and healthy. I do need the pro trim, but I'm kinda scared that more might get cut off than I'm ready to let go of. I just recently made BSL and I feel like I'll be chopped to apl. I'm going to try it a couple more times before I go to salon.

So glad I found this site for this reason. I was paying $45 for a rollerset. No way:nono:. I invested in a dryer, rollers and the rest is history. I am just learning how to get those edges to be slick, but its all a work in progress for me.

I feel you. I think it would be best for you to go for a wash and set to feel her out before you let her trim your hair.

When you decide to trim let her know what amount you want cut off. Do a demonstration so she will know exactly how much you want taken off. Let the stylist know your hair goals - LONG HAIR!

I go to one of those hair cuttery or great clip places and get a thorough trim for $13 and do the rest myself.

I was getting my hair colored and ends trimmed every 7weeks at the salon, but I currently am stretching my color treatments and hair trims to every 3 months. I get a relaxer every 5weeks I have a friend do it for me though. (Working on stretchin my relaxers, we will see.)

I would go to get an assessment, but ask a lot of questions before the stylist tries to style your hair. Ask for a free consulation. Many salons and stylist do give them.

If you don't feel comfortable with the answers they are giving to your questions, then don't make an appointment and don't let them do your hair.

Not all stylist are bad. Yes, their are plenty that give us a bad name, but not all of us are all about the style. There are a few that do care about the health and growth of your hair, even it they are far and few in between. You just have to be patient and cautious when trying to find a stylist. And you have to make sure that you and the stylist are on the same page. That is the hard part.
