I can't believe I use to ___________ and thought it was cute. (Hair related story)

Re: I can't believe I use to ___________ and thought it was cute. (Hair related story

I can't believe I used drench my head in brown gel to pull my lifeless hair into a back ponytail and THEN :nono:

add about 5 scrunchies on top of that:look: ya know... for thickness :lachen:
---------------------------

Yes....

the girls with the small folded down ponytail and like 5 large rainbow scrunchies with a huge hard gel swoop in the front looking like they can't wait to punch somebody...or for somebody to say something to their cousin...

lol

:yep:

Re: I can't believe I use to ___________ and thought it was cute. (Hair related story

I remember at one point girls would have a tiny pony tail all the way up in the front of their head and the rest down. Then split the pony tail in half so it looked like you had two strings on the side of your face. :lachen: If you could do that style you were the ish because only girls with hair long enough in the front could get their hair to lay in their face.

I was also the queen of ball-balls and ribbons. I use to do high pony tails with a bang. I didn't care how many ribbons or ball-balls it took. I was matching EVERY color in my outfit. :lachen: WTF was wrong with me???

Re: I can't believe I use to ___________ and thought it was cute. (Hair related story

I can't believe that I used to glue in  type 3c hair and leave the hair at the top of my head out...and STRAIGHT (because I was relaxed). Two totally different textures :nono: and I KNEW I was :gorgeous:

I can't believe I used to put slick my hair in a side ponny but leave 2 tinnnny strands out. I looked like a chola. smh

Re: I can't believe I use to ___________ and thought it was cute. (Hair related story

I remember in middle school we all used to talk about the "Moesha" braids. Everybody had them (some still get them) I never did the whole braid thing, just crochet braids. Then they used to slick down the front "baby hairs" with that brown gel and twirl it around into circles of some sort:lachen:...
(couldnt resize image, sorry :look:)

Bwahahahahahaa...Good thread!!

Re: I can't believe I use to ___________ and thought it was cute. (Hair related story

I can't believe I:

Wore wet and wavy weave in high school and tried to play it off as real hair. Especially with those wave bangs.

Wore weave, at all in high school. Including the way to long and to straight kind.

Wore microbraids even after it kept breaking off my edges.

Let myself get talked into getting a relaxer twice, and wearing weave glued right on it.

I was a press'n curl gal in middle school. I saw all these girls with brown fanned pony tails. They thought it was cute, I never liked it. But then, my hair was a lot longer than theirs and they hated it. They'd make fun of my pony tails, and how my broken edges wouldn't stay in place because I couldn't use gel like them. Because my hair wouldn't stay in place, I thought it was so ugly... So sophomore year I got a weave and a relaxer. Why did I listen to them?

Then there were the prom styles. Wow...

I just went with a SL weave bob and left though weird looking updos alone.

I can't believe I was the queen of black gel. My edges would be feel like cardboard or something lmao. & when I would scratch the brown flakes would just be everywhere:nono: Gel & water were my staples and I would always have a weave in. Horrible! I don't know what I was thinking. I used to get that super silky hair and my leave out hair was so obvious! & I used to think my gelled up "hump" with the ponytail was cute. I can't believe I though it was cute when I dyed my hair honey blonde and came to school looking like an oompa loompa character and had flat twist with bantu knots on the ends. HAM!

I rocked about a 1 inch part down the middle with these clips on either side of my hair.

Re: I can't believe I use to ___________ and thought it was cute. (Hair related story

I used to wear the wet look in high school...(i know smh). It was a popular look amongst my white and hispanic friends. I figured since my hair could 3c/4a hair curl it would look good on me too...Wrong. I would layer some cheap alcohol based gel over freeze-sprayed hair. It looked like I had a jherri curl. :nono:

Even worse than this...There was even a period where I would wear my hair wrapped to school with my head scarf on

I don't know what I was thinking. I guess, I wasn't. Because now when I see this, I think it looks awful.

Putting both of those memories back into the darkest corners of my mind.

When I was in high school I started experimenting with my hair. I took the orange net bag the oranges came in and used it as a hair tie for my ponytail.

I thought I was being creative.

I would walk around with 4 inches of new growth and the headband that made it ok--not!

This thread had me rolling! I was in HS from '88-'92 so any hairstyle worn by Salt 'n Pepa, Queen Latifah (when she was just a rapper) or En Vogue was hot during my hs days.

I had a curly perm :look: set on LARGE perm rods so it was more wavy than curly. You couldn't tell me nothing. I used this blue gel activator to keep it moisturized. It never dripped, though! Honestly that's when my hair was the healthiest and longest. Senior year it was all about doobies, slicked back buns, french rolls and roller sets with finger waves in the front. I had gold beads on my hairpins and placed in my finger waves. Lol!

Man, this thread is awesome! In my time the in thing was to wear a headband like the one below, no matter what your hairstyle was. Man i looked so crazy thinking about it now.

The other (even bigger thing) was to take a section of hair in the front, roll it on your fingers a few times until it was just above your eyes and then clip it in place to make a faux bang, kinda like this:

but with a smaller clip.

OMG this thread is still funny. And I'm still wondering wtf was wrong with me??? I even remember using peroxide once to try to lighten my hair. I think it actually worked, but it was still stupid.

In High School, I use to pile on gobs of Let's Jam from root to tip because I thought it made me look like I had " good hair". I Know, sad and the funny thing is because I had really course hair, putting that stuff on every morning made it look much worse. Thanks god I didn't live in a cold climate. My pony tail could have hurt someone.

Girl me too I ain't gonna lie lol

The finger waves. Bee hive wraps. French rolls. The early nineties..... I'm glad that's over. I forgot shaved one side of my head and had lines. Wowzers.....
