and HAD to wear it natural - no heat straightening, relaxers, texrelaxers, weaves or curl kits, just 100% your own natural hair, how would you style and wear it?

ETA: See post 16 to read why I started this poll.

Ummm I have 4a/b hair and I usually sport two strand twists. Last year I went a whole year without straightening it.

Ummm what? Ummm I plan on doing this very soon so...at first I'll have a TWA...and I'll style that. I'll wear twists, twist outs, braid outs, wash n gos, picked out fros, cute updos, eventually elaborate braided and twisted styles, buns, bantu knot outs, puffs......yea...

Is this what you mean>

my texture is 4a. i wear my hair in all the styles mentioned. i have not straightened it yet. i am so scared to apply heat, but i might try a blow out tomorrow?

I answered the question before the OP added the poll, that's where the ummm was coming from...I guess *kanyeshrug*.

Depends on how long it is. In my siggy and avi I have done a wash n go with my type 4 hair. I think it looks nice. I wear mine in a twist out puff or wash n go puff. If I knew more about styling I would do other styles as well. I rarely straighten. Matter of fact, I haven't straightened since last summer.

Ummm...yea. I can't answer this question, because how I wear my hair isn't based on curl pattern. I picked other - it would have to depend on the texture of my hair and how much it shrunk or how tangled it got if I let it shrink. Hopefully I'd be able to wear it out, but if it couldn't shrink without massive tangling, I'd have to do braids/twists, or let it dry stretched another way.

Ummm, I do have 4b/a hair and I don't use no heat straightening, relaxers, texrelaxers, weaves or curl kits.

I chose "other" and I wear stretched styles in buns mostly whilst I grow it out.

It is a serious poll. No popcorn or looks are needed. I'm not making fun of anyone.

I've worn my own hair natural since 2005. Since then, I've heard people tell me, "I would wear my hair natural if I had hair like you..."

So I thought to myself if I really would continue to wear my hair natural if I had the hair type that the average black person loathes. My answer is yes. I thought it would be interesting to pose the question to the hair board. *shrug*

ETA: I have type 4 hair as well, but apparently, some deem it acceptable enough because there is some curl pattern. In the past, I've received subtle invitations to someone's stylist. I've had women in the supermarket stare me down (and not in the nice way). Then, later on, I had women take me aside and ask me for hair tips.

It is bizarre to me that the same head of hair can inspire both awe and shame in other women.

some of y'all are being difficult

To answer: I'd rock twists and braid outs with my Natural hair. I like my hair this way and I have 4a/4b hair. I might heat straighten occasionally but if i had to choose one option it would be a the twist/braid/twist out.

Yeah.....I have 4a/b hair and I wear any style I want as long as no heat is involved.....*yeezy shrug*

I selected, "All these and more", but I really am drawn to the twa and will eventually chop it all off and keep it that way. I think women with long necks look quite elegant, and I could get this look with a twa. (My neck is quite average.)

I'm a 4a/b and I mainly rock twist outs and the occasional wash and go or bun. I want to wear twists/box braids but I can't do them myself, and can't afford to get them done professionally.

I agree.

To answer the question, I would wear twistouts/braidouts/and wash n gos

I understand some of the triggered responses given that I didn't give an explanation in the first post.

Many of us go through hell transitioning and going natural. I know I still do struggle to stay natural.

For those who have answered the questions, I appreciate your honesty.

I'd wear twist mostly. My daughter is 4a/b ( mostly b) and it's cute when it's loose but tangle city by the end of the day. I'm getting my hair done for the first time at a natural salon ( review to be posted soon) and I have seen some beautiful styles done on mostly type 4 hair today.

i voted all & more, but i'm hair lazy so i would go with the most minimal effort required style (taking into account how long it lasts and detangling after), which would most likely be twists/twistouts.

I would probably wear braidouts, which is generally what I do with my hair now. I haven't even attempted a wash and go yet.

I'm 4B and only encountered "loathing" of that hair type in this country. Growing up in Kenya, everyone around me had my hair--or mostly everyone, and we were natural. We did have a mixed girl living in our neighborhood and I have shared how I tried to style her hair once and it flopped all over the place and wouldn't cooperate and I actually felt sorry for her and wondered secretly if she feels sad that she had such awful hair--type 3-something. (Ironic eh?)

Like a lot of other folks that have posted, I wear my hair natural more than I wear it straight. To give you a timeline: My last relaxer was in 2001. I was fully natural in August 2002. I straightened at the end of 2004. Then again at the end of 2006. Then in April 2009. And I'm yet to straighten again, just not sure when. (I keep straight hair for only a week coz I get bored with it straight. I do appreciate how quickly I can whip straight hair into a style, but other than that, meh.)

I wear my hair mostly in twists and braids, coz I'm lazy. I feel most beautiful when I have my hair out and in puff styles.
