I noticed that most ladies take up to 5 mg of biotin why not more ?

It might be personal...I took 1mg with no side effects, I upped it to 2mg still no side effects. When I upped it to 3 mg I started getting a fine rash all over my face. So you may have to experiment to see how much your body can tolerate.

Prettygirl,
I'm trying not to get crazy with taking so many high dosages of certain vitamins/minerals. Everyone preference varies and some dosages cause other side effects! This is my primary reason for not taking more than my multi-vitamin offers.
I might reconsider one day!

Tekmommie,
I experienced the same thing, so I stopped additional Biotin supplements all together!
My multi-vitamin has 50mcg's (17% daily value)
This seems to be sufficient for now! My hair is responding well thus far to the change! My hair is growing and it's strong. I think I'll keep my vitamin regimen this way or try FREEDA Biotin. I came across a thread about this product on the boards!

Some people have actually experienced heart palpitations by increasing their biotin load. I would advise anyone thinking about taking biotin, to start with a low dosage and work their way up if they desire to take a larger amount. This way, if any complications should arise, the person would know at what dosage the problems started.

That's great

I take 5mg, but I'm going to slowly increase the dosage to see what happens.

13mg

How fast is your hair growing Tracy? I recently added a comment to your lastest photo in the gallery. Girl your hair is just beau-tee-ful!

No question is "dumb" Tekmommie. We are all here to learn

I think it has to do more with the dosage than the brand, even though Puritan Pride and Freeda are pretty potent biotin supplements. This is why I would tell anyone to start at let's say, 3mg or 3.5mg for a while. Then, if there is no adverse reactions, you can work your way up.

Awwww, thanks sweetie!

Do you know if the rash is something that goes away (if I continue taking)? Or should I just stick with 2MG?

Tekmommie,

My small break-out disappeared once I lowered my Biotin intake!
Maybe you should keep your dosage at 2mg's.
What's the dosage of Biotin in your multi-vitamin?

I forgot about that, its 1200 mcg...I added the 1mg and 2mg with no problems, but when I added 3mg I got the fine rash. So I stopped taking any extra.

I'm so tired of taking all these pills anyway...

Tekmommie with each person the outcome may be different. I believe some of the ladies who experienced breakouts upped their water intake for a period of time, and the problems went away.

Prettygirl excess amounts of water-soluble vitamins such as biotin are flushed through the system. However, some ppl were still complaining that even when they took the biotin in a split dosage(some in the morning, some in the evening), they said they were still experiencing palpitations of the heart.

I guess I'll just stick to the added 2 mcg for a total of 3.2mg (is that right?). I don't think I could add more water, I already drink 8-10 16.9oz bottles of water a day. I've been doing this for about 10 yrs. I rarely drink soda (maybe once a yr.) NEVER drink coffee...seldom drink tea and when I do it is Decaf.

Sorry, I'm having a lazy Saturday...don't feel like doing even simple math...lol

It gets like that sometimes. And yes, your math is correct

Tekmommie,

The updated Biotin regimen sounds like a plan!
I drink tons of water everyday too. I don't drink soda or coffe!
Water and different juices are constant staples in the fridge!

I have heard that people see results after about 3 weeks. It depends on the person. Biotin is water soluable so they say you can't overdose because the body will flush out the extras.

I take less than < 1 mg of biotin a day (a little is in my multi and a little is in my super b-complex).

Ladies I have a Question:

How do you know that the increased dosage of Biotin is making a difference if you have been seeing positive results prior to the increase?

I think I might try to take them throughout the day...I did not try that. I'll keep you guys posted.

I did notice a difference after 3-4 weeks, cant remember exactly.

and why do some people get that itch on their scalp and others don't does that mean that their brand is more effective that others

I got the itch and it was just some cheap stuff I bought from Target!

And dont say "Thats why you got the rash"
