Every 3 months. i could go longer but because my newgrowth is so uncombable + i dont really comb my hair often.. it gets very tangly.

Currently I relax every 2 months. My plans for the new you are to stretch my relaxers even farther(every 3/4 months) depending on the new growth, ends,etc...hopefully, every 4 months in 2006.;)

3-5 months, conditioner wash and flat iron is how I deal with the new growth. I get it 85% straight this way, so a relaxer is not crucial.

I used to relax every 4 months and then every 6 months. It's now been almost 10 months since my last touch up and I'd like to wait another 2 months before the next one.

My hair doesn't grow that fast and taut roller setting helps to get the roots straight. As long as I don't sweat too much, the set lasts for a week.

This is a good thread because right now I relax every three months. But I must confess before becoming comfortable on this forum I was still addicted to relaxing every six weeks. So it is becoming easier with every stretch (this is my 4th try) but this time I want to go 4 months.

Then I'm moving out of town and refuse to allow anyone but my current stylist to relax my hair but I will only return every 4-6 months to Dallas. So I want to stretch 4 months this try. 5 months next try and so on and so forth. My question is how do I "train" my tresses to stretch just a little bit longer each time?

I'm shooting for every 4-5 months. I just finished my first stretch--got up to 22 weeks! Now that I know what to do out the gate--or out the scalp--with my hair, I'm hoping the next stretch won't be as painful (pun intended).

it sure does. i dont think any of the ladies here relax bone straight do they? :sekret:
I relax bone straight. I generally relax every 5 months, but I am looking to stretch for 8. I already have 2 1/2 inches of ng so I dont know if I can make it until November.

At one point in my life I relaxed every 4-6 weeks. Since finding LHCF, I've stretched a minimum of 12 weeks. :) However..... I'm relaxing this weekend. At that point, I will be at 6 months, 1 week, and 1 day. :D

*Not sure if I can do that again though. LOL I'll try to stretch 4 months going forward though.

Usually 12 weeks before a touchup (3 months) I'm at going on my 10 th week but this NG is hellafied!? I have about 2 inches in most areas....getting to the point where its unmanageable.

8 months for me. I will probably relax in a couple of weeks, In the future, I will relax every 5-6 months.

You will learn which products work best for your hair and after a while it just becomes easier. I think you learn how to deal with your hair better--what it likes and dislikes and after a while you no longer feel the need to get a relaxer right away when you see natural hair. of course, this will not work for someone that likes bone straight hair 24/7. My hair is texturized.

I would have voted "when I need to" but that wasn't an option. I had to learn that my hair does not appreciate stretching or I haven't found the right products to help me stretch. My hair and I have an agreement, I'll relax when it gets nappy and it won't break and end up all over the floor. I can't go by a calendar, I have to go by my hair.;)

I relax when i want to and that is like 2 or 3 time a year
i did the BC in Nov 06, but i know i will relax again i just don't know when that will be.

Are the ladies with types 3b and 3c fine hair able to go longer without a relaxer, especially if their roots do not kink up?curious. I would think that this would work with a texturizer, only doing it every 4-6 months if you use a scarf with ponytail drying method, like Carolyn recommends on her site? bonjour

I voted every 3 months. It's been working for me since October 2005, but for some reason right now the new growth is not cooperating. I had a touch-up on April 6 and was planning on going to July 6, but I'm experiencing some breakage. I'll try a hot oil treatment and some emergencee this weekend, but if that doesn't work... I'll be calling the "crack dealer" to make an appointment.

The LONGEST I ever stretched to was 15 weeks, and that was MURDER!! It wasn't so much that upkeeping was hard on me, but more so the fact that when I finally sat in my stylists chair and had her put the relaxer in, my newgrowth was so tangled and hard to part that she hurt me putting the relaxer in my hair!! :( I was in tears the new growth was so unruly. :(

Did you try straightening and detangling your NG one day before your touchup? I did that after an 18 month(!) stretch at it worked like a charm :yep:

I relax on average every 12 weeks. I only get four relaxers per year and I don't relax bone straight. I like my roots straight, but I like my hair wavy. I know Syler2 does looonngg stretches at least once a year, so I have been doing that too. This year I'm going to do a long stretch from August 26, 2006 to December 30, 2006. That's an 18 week stretch!!!! I've got a challenge ahead of me! lol

Cool, I'll be attempting something similar. I just don't feel like having that relaxer on my scalp for a while so I'm attempting a 6-month stretch. My last relaxer was May 20th and I'm hoping the next one will be December 20th:perplexed
