I'm not sure but even if it is terminal, you shouldn't be depressed. You are at a great length and your hair is lovely! I'm going to ask the obvious. Has your hair been breaking much in the past 6 months? I see you're still transitioning AND you bkt...maybe that's too much for the relaxed part?

Have you trimmed your hair in the last 6 months?
Have you seen any breakage?
Also, I see a lot of long haired ladies state that once they reached a certain length, their hair did not grow as quickly. Sometimes your hair goes through a thickening rather than lengthening stage. Also, some state that it took them 5 years plus of hair growing to reach full WL or HL etc. Irresistible and Chicoro come to mind at the moment.

It might just be because hair seems to grow slower in the cooler months. My hair looks about the same as it did 6 months ago. But I seem to get more growth when it gets warmer.

I don't think 6 months is enough time to determine.
Maybe your hair is just taking a "break" lol.
I would have to be absolutely honest with myself and knowing that I have done EVERYTHING I could possibly do to help my hair thrive and retain and if a year has passed without breakage or trims and my hair hasn't budged one bit I would probably decide I've reached my treminal lenght. My hair has been hiting the same spot on my back since October BUT my hair on my crown has gotten considerably longer, maybe your hair took a break in the nape and is still growing on top?
Hope that made sense..

I havent seen any breakage at all. I havent trimmed b/c my hair grows so slow i cant retain if i trim too often. I've just been doing S & Ds...
i was HOPING my hair would thicken since its very fine but i didnt notice much of that either...
i've been taking viviscal for 2 months - unless that has the OPPOSITE effect, this doesnt make sense lol
i hope it doesnt take me five years. its been 3 years and change so far and i was already APL when i started :ohwell:

Thanks you guys. i hope your right and my hair is just on break....but if i got hardly anything in the cooler months and only an inch and 1/2 during the warmer months last year i am SCARED..... I'm in the WSL 2010 challenge so maybe i'll give it till January 2011 before totally flipping out..

I've read that you have to wait 1-2 years while maintaining good hair practices and a healthy diet, before determining that your hair has reached its terminal length. Your hair could be going through a resting phase in its growth cycle. 6 mos is too soon to claim terminal length. I also read that a humans terminal length is almost never wl or above. Its usually floor length or longer people who come to experience tl in their lifetime. HTH.

Just chiming in to say your hair is FABULOUS!!! I know that doesn't address your concern but, I hope it makes you feel better AND, I just HAD to say it.

The average person can grow anywhere from 14 to 26 inches, depending on genetics. So, if you haven't reached 26 inches then I say you are just going through a slow grow faze.

Im at 21 inches (root to tip).... and i am a slow grower so being that i past 14....this might be it...thats alot shorter than thigh length lol

I dont have long hair like you but the same happened to me last year and this year. So upset but then I happened to start eating differently and took a hair tablet that has worked in the past and it kick started my growth again. I think I was growing at the time but a lot, lot slower than my old rate.

OP, it's already been said, but your hair is gorgeous and although I am no hair expert...I do know that our hair grows in stages, some months we may see more (growth) than others so...I wouldn't give up just yet.

I have been natural for 8 years, after two years of my hair growth, my hair stayed the same for nearly four years, then when I started to deep condition my hair, it was able to retain length more, after I started to use Mega Tek, again more growth, also I am taking biotin, what also helped me, it having a picture of someone with long hair. It seems to help with the growth. I think that you should still aim for your waist length or whatever length, same affirminations, such as my hair grows very fast, thick and healthy each month.

The whole terminal length issue confuses me, so I can't offer too much input on that.

Just wanted to chime in to say- I'll take your length for my terminal any day! :yep:

i do the deep conditioning, and hair vits, and megatek (but only once or twice a week just to get rid of it) but the picture thing is new. i guess i was always scared it would depress me more than motivate me lol

and i def have to work on those affirmations. its hard cuz i know its a lie. my hair grows so slow..i only shave my legs like once every 3 months..my mom can go 6! eyebrows - once a month... i will try to stay positive :)

Thanks.

I wonder if it has to do with your relaxed ends....maybe they are breaking away and you don't realize it.

Im not sure....i dont SEE any breakage. I do alot of S & Ds - like all day every day lol...but i dont think thats it cuz i've been doing those for at least 2 years and i've never seen NO growth like this before... not since they days b/f my HHJ..

Have you tried Biotin? That stuff kickstarted my growth in a serious hurry. There are pics of my growth in my profile. Also using MSM keeps your hair in the growing phase longer.

You also may want to look at your diet. IF you haven't tried vitamins, do so and let us know if you see any difference.

If you are still doing BKT doesn't that mean your hair is still growing or would that not be the same like when getting a relaxer....I guess it could mean the treatment is just wearing off...But as long as its not breaking than you good...does it still shed?

well i know this white chick who complained to me that her hair does not grow. she cuts it and it grows right back to where it was cut and stops again. i was puzzled and scared, so i dontknow. do you see new growth!!!! thats the ONLY reason why my hair is bleached in the front is so i can track growth, i love when i see black hair comming in, that means my hair didnt stop growing. i just bleached my roots and already i have an inch of black roots. wow

I believe irresitable posted that she didn't see a change in length for about a year, before her haid started getting longer again.

Maybe she has some tips for you.

Actually you need maybe 2 years of flawless hair care regimen to claim terminal and you have to be @ least WL or passed "normal" lengths.
