I think the ladies with the breakage issues should definately try aphogee... it stopped my breakage almost completely after a couple of treatments, and I had alot of damage done to my hair by putting in a weave last year, and then over-conditioning and not enough protien...and i had to have it cut so many times last year - from weak thin brastrap to healthy strong shoulder length...but of course this was all before I came to lhcf and got educated about proper hair care. Anyway, it strengthens the shaft, and mends the tears and bonds the hair shaft together. Just follow up with a really good deep moisturizing conditioner! I think you will love the results. If you are still that afraid of aphogee, then get a good protein deep conditioner, and use it one week, then the next week use a moisturizing conditioner. Let's keep in touch....I'm doing the same regimen right now, and I'd love to know your progress...

after taking care of my hair for six months I saw MAJOR improvement in thickness and health. I didn't get the length until I joined this board!

well i bc'ed on June 6, 2003- not because of damage i was just ready to do it. i have had a couple of setbacks- the worst was the hard water when i moved to this apartment in dec. 2004 and last year- i had breakage in the nape area due to stress- the length is back in that area- took about 4-6 months and the thickness is almost the same as the other side there now. My hair is really thick now- and i have seen length since my last trim- the only problem was the barber cut more off one side than the other. So i am nursing that( happened feb. 06) currently see a few splits in the rear so debating as to whether i am trimming in may or june. But for the most part it is healthy.

I chose 6 months or less because I did a mini/big chop a few months into my journey. I just rather had cut it all off at once than to slowly watch the damage break off.

Once that damaged 3-4 inches was gone, I was well on my way to healthy hair.

I just started my journy so i know it will be at least 6 months before i can say that my hair is in fair condition and probably at least a year before its healthy again. I'm so glad i found these boards, because i wanna do it right this time!:)

BUt Im still having a bit of breakage, which concerns me. Not shedding, but actual little broken pieces of hair. Not a lot at all, but i would love to get to a place where i have NONE at all.

I have increased the moisture in my regimen, to make sure that lack of moisture is not causing the breakage, but no change. The breakage is a few short strands of hair in the sink, on my hands, and in my wide tooth comb when i apply oils to my scalp and my moisturizers/oils to the ends.
The same thing happens to me. I suspect I need to apply a good moisturizer to my ends more often. If that doesn't work, I will try the protein.

It took me about 6 months to see a huge improvement in thickness and length.:) Last June I was at neck length and by December, my hair was a couple of inches from APL. Surprised the heck out of me:lol:

A year and a half. I had two bad perms and one hard water fiasco and lots of heat abuse and dusting in between. Presently my hair is the healthiest its been in about 3 years. Its chin length, blunt cut, shiny and has major movement. I use L'Oreal Vive and olive oil but I'm about to switch to either Paul Mitchell or Nexxus.

My hair stays healthy. I have occasional setbacks, but those get cured within a wash or 2. I'm here to work on getting some length before I get tempted to cut my hair, like I usually do. I'm learning to protect my ends more and cut my hair less.

I'm still nursing my hair back to health. My problem is dryness, breakag and my temples. I'm currently using Dr. Michael's temple balm. For moiture NTM silk leave in that I seal with Kemi Oyl. For breakage I now use ORS hair mayo biweekly. So far so good.

Great topic / poll wantlonghealthyhair :)

For me I choose other so I will explain. My hair wasn't very healthy when I was perming it. It shed and broke allot. Even though I had great length it was not very healthy. It was not until I did my big chop when I realized that my hair could get truly healthy. Currently it is. I don't even do protein treatments anymore these days because my hair is so strong. :)

3 months after haircare and trimming.

i think it was about 1-2 months after I came to lhcf, which i just came in february, so I am still nursing it back to health - i am not in the grow-out phase...ive gone through the worst of the breakage and shedding phases, and not i am focused on length retention. I have not had a trim since january, but my ends look fine. - no split ends...i hav enot used heat since early february.....

i had so many typos in that reply i had to re-type it:lachen: - here is is again, in english this time: it was 1-2 months after i came to lhcf in february 2006 since ive got it healthy - but i am still nursing it back to health. I am now in the grow-out phase. I have gone through the worst of the breakage and shedding, and now i am focused on retention. i have not had a trim since january but my ends look fine - no splits - i have not used heat since early february 2006.:D

I'm still nursing my hair back to health. Since I've started last October with my hair obsession (), I've seen more length; my hair is past my shoulders now; I want it APL for starters. I've cut out blowdrying (except for the once every 3 months Dominican salon visit), cowashing 2-3x/week, and moisturizing/sealing it with oil, and this has improved my hair.

I'm still nursing my poor strands back to health. I'm gradually trimming off my overprocessed and damged ends. But, I think in about another year or so my hair will be back to full health... hopefully. :(

It took me about a year to nurse my hair to a partial healthy state....im still working on obtaining optimal health.

lemme see - my most serious problem was shedding and dead ends.
I took care of the dead ends with a trip to the stylist - 10 min.
shedding - took about 1.5 months.

But I'm still and will continue to work on nursing it, so those problems don't return or any new ones.

I am continuously nursing my hair back to health. I have diabetes and when I am not eating right and exercising it takes a toll on my hair. I am now at brastrap but my hair is so dry and I also have seborrheic dermatitis which is not curable but can be managed. My scalp is so bad this month. I am going to have to get my Derma-Smoothe prescription refill b/c the Nizoral prescription strength is doing nothing for my scalp.

It took a 6 months-1 year to get it healthy and growing again. But i'm still keeping a close watch on it and TLC all the time.

Still on the way.. I think for the most part is healthy...
I have some breakage issues like Kini
Im working on protien right now cuz I have been hearing snaps..
And Im on Minimum heat for the next 6 weeks to see how that goes...

I think my hair will be where I want to be by next summer :)
Im def gonna but an inch or two by then...
