ok, is it just my mom, or is everyone's mother super excited to see when their hair is healthier/longer?

i was so excited about the progress that my hair has been making that i sent my mother some of my progress pictures. when i went back home to visit her a few weeks ago, i found out that she had actually printed the pictures and brought them TO WORK to show :perplexed:nono::blush: plus a few folx in the family said they saw my hair pics. i was SOOO embarassed. I guess she was excited about my hair too, but good lord!!! i did NOT expect that. Has your mom (or anyone else in your fam) done anything wierd like that?

  Sorry I couldn't help myself. It sounds like something my mom would do. Like come look at my baby's hair growth progress. I gave my mom my fotki address, and she started showing it to my whole family(a lot of people), my step dad's family, and her church friends:drunk:. I couldn't do anything but laugh when one of the ladies at church complimented me on a rollerset I had posted.

But whenever she sees me she gives me ahair compliment, and tell all of her friends and cowrokers that her daughter doesn't even perm her hair, and it looks great :perplexed mom's are too much!

My mom is like that. She lives vicariously through my hair instead of taking the things I do and applying them to her own head. It's been like that since I was little since I've always had really thick hair. But it wasn't until it started getting long that she wanted to tell people about it.

I went to visit my mother a few days ago and she was asking me if I was wearing a weave, i said no, it's all mine. She said it has never been this long before and if I was sure that it wasn't a weave "let me see" I was like "see, it's real" as I parted the back so she could see scalp.

yeah...she was pretty upset in the short phases when I was walking around with a fro...but I recently blow dried it out and it is SL in the back

now she is looking to me for tip:grin:

:lachen:I've only grew my hair to collarbone length, but whenever my mom sees it out, she gets all "whooo girl, look at all that hair down your back" "my baby hair is long" "ooh its so healthy and shiny"
And thats fine....but whenever we get around friends and family, she does the same thing, "tell em what you did to grow your hair" "she know all about hair girl" "my baby dont need a salon"

Im also embarrased :nono::lachen:

:lachen:My mom did that too:lachen:
I had did a sewin weave, took it out, and died my hair black & clear and flatironed my hair
She said your weave looks nice, i said no, its mine. This woman came around and started tugging on my hair, she took me into the bathroom with the bright lights just so she could look even further
Sometimes when im not even expecting it she tugs my hair like shes going to catch me with a wig on

My mom is still raising little ones. Whenever I give her something new to use or something that I've mixed for the little girls' hair she says to them "give me some of Aunt Missy's hair-crack to use on your hair since her hair is growing so nicely!"

I laugh and tell her to stop telling them that it's hair crack. But its funny because here is this woman who raised me and I'm sure she did the best she could with my hair - always asking me for hair advice now. I love it.

Y'all remember Patti LaBell's song . . .

"When you've been blessed, pass it on. . . " Thats how I feel about hair knowledge. Just passin it on.

Yes my mom is just as excited as I am. It's so bizarre because every time she sees my hair down, she's in awe. So now she wants me to start doing her hair. I think it's cute and also flattering.

My mom and dad are super excited. Especially since I am away from home and only see them every few months, they  to see my progress.

My mom is even adopting some aspects of my regimen and that has me HAPPY

:lachen:this is so funny because mothers can get away with doing something a stranger would get beat down for doing.

Although my mom has been dead for 12 years, I know she is looking down on me with a smile. She was very unhappy with me when I cut my hair and decided to wear it shorter than what she had "worked her behind off" to grown it to.:lachen:

My mom first scoffed all the info I tried to pass on and when I first told her I was trying to grow my hair she commented that I should just go to the shop and let her stylist take care of it and it could be as long as hers. At the time hers was just past her shoulders and mine had been previously butchered to barely touching the bottom of my neck. She wrinkled her nose at my regimes, poo poo'ed my over use of water and s-curl and snorted at my mention of forums. When my hair started growing she went from rolling her eyes to barely hidden jealousy.

We've managed to get over the jealousy (I think:ohwell:) but I got so tired of being put down about my findings and hairboards that I don't even mention them anymore. Most of the time I wear my hair hidden around her and my sisters just to avoid drawing unwanted fingers, and attention.

My Mom (and rest of family and those who have known me since before I was a twinkle in my mother's eye!) can't believe my hair. My Mom has been in total disbelief and delight in the few years at my length and thickness. She's ACTUALLY asking me for advice and sending OTHERS to me for hair advice . . .

My mom has been super excited. So has my dad but he won't say anything:grin: He's stopped talking about my hair since I started abusing it my first year of college when he got realy upset with me for cutting it so short. She's been on to my fotki and while she hasn't adopted my routines, she is going to stop flat ironing for a fro and try shea butter:grin:

This post really makes me feel sad, especially the bolded part. Its awful that you can't share this with your closest female relatives:nono:

My mom gave me plenty of sideways looks when I started out, but now she's very impressed:D I get weave checked regularly and shes even taken some advice I've given her:eek:

I swear you guys read my mind. I have been cheesing all day because my mom made a comment about my hair today.

We were just talking and in the middle of the conversation, she touched my hair and said " Wow your hair has grown so much."

I needed that. I am feeling discouraged. I removed braids recently and my hair has been kinda dry since then. I should have know better than using that synthetic hair. Anyway, I think I finally got my normal moisture back or close to it, but it has been a pain.

I needed the excitement of my mom to give me a lift.

i think my mom is more proud of me because i set a goal and stuck with it... plus, she knows that i've always loved longer hair but never took care of it enough for it to grow AND be healthy.... luckily there's no jealousy (she's always maintained her hair between just past shoulder length and bsl at various times)... but i'm definitely the hair go-to person now...

now if only my sister would listen... :wallbash::wallbash::wallbash:

Well, since I the "weave queen" of the family, my mom immeadiately said " OH! This is a nice weave!!":lachen:. I was like " Why this gotta be a weave, momma??!!" We then got into a 5 minute "pseudo-argument". After trying to convince her, I had bring my little sister into the room. Even after that, my mom sitll had to put her hands all up in my hair before she believed me. I thought it was all TOO funny! Aff my life she and my sis always had longer hair than I did, not I finally had the longest hair of all of us! I WIN!!!

awww :( that's such a shame. it's good when you can share something you're passionate about with your loved ones, especially I would think other black women who could really benefit. Butatleast you can share with your hubby, I always like to hear about his reaction to your hair :)

ok, it's good to see it's not just my mother, LOL. I do think it's cute too, but it's almost like showing a naked baby pic of me or something, it's just embarassing as all get out, especially since I think most of the people she is showing could care less about my hair!! :lachen:

My mom could care less! Her hair grows super fast but she keeps it about shoulder length.

But on another note: Wow! You have great bone/feature structure. Very pretty.:yep:

thanx chica! u r 2 sweet. oh well, i'm wondering if i might prefer that she could care less, or atleast be somewhere in between. i'm also wondering, geesh, was my hair like really jacked up before why she is losing her mind about it now! :lachen:

Mummy hates my hair, with pure unbridled disdain :lachen:

are you jamaican? i hate to stereotype, but (i'm jamaican too) and my mother hated my hair when i cut it short and was wearing it natural. as it started growing she eventaully came around though...

At first my mom would tell me that i'm doing to much and that my hair was going to fall out. But now, she's all in love with, taking my hair pics, telling me that my hair is so healthly and beautiful. She even use my products and buys some too.

She's a believer now.

This is a fun topic. My mother saw my hair down for the first time in three to four years this summer. Her mouth literally fell open. She looked like this,:eek::eek::eek:

She, being the typical mother was all through my hair, when she could not find something to criticize, she pursed up her lips and said, your Aunt J_____ would just die when she sees it and that she would absolutely insist that you never, ever cut it again."

For two days I would look up and catch her looking at me on the sly!:lachen:

While my mom likes my layered bob, she is partial to longer hair. So, yes; she is very pleased when my hair is thriving and growing.
