As I stated his main focus needs to be getting his life together, not dating or women (if I didn't make that clear in my post, my apologies). Sure we all deserve love and companionship but he has more going in his personal life than the average person. Maybe he could do a search to see if there are meetup groups for folks with varying mental illness as a stepping stone towards the path of self improvement and getting himself together. This will make him more confident
