Help New Growth

Well I was wondering what can I use or do to soften my new growth until next touch up. It's really thick and I was doing good until last wash. I have about a inch of new growth or maybe a little more. Well I need something to soften it because it's a fight whenever I try to style it. Just putting it in a ponytail takes me about a half and hour to and hour. I kno it's better to comb when wet then dry, so I do that but even then it's like trying to comb a brillo pad. I don't kno HOW it got this bad. Does anybody have any suggestions. If it helps my hair is really dense, thick, and coarse. It's extremely resistant, and even makes relaxing hard.

Have you ever tried a conditioner wash? (washing with conditioner instead of shampoo) Some of the ladies on here say that doing them often keeps their new growth soft and moisturized. I do them, but haven't been doing them long enough to tell you my personal thoughts on it.

Virgin Coconut Oil & Extra Virgin Olive Oil works wonders on my new growth. You might want to look into those or maybe Ginseng Wonder 8 Oil. Also your new growth will be softer if you simply keep it moisturized. Sometimes I use Sta Sof Fro spray on my new growth if all else fails. HTH

Try a hair butter. I use JCS Nourish & Shine which leaves my new growth really soft. AOGPB and WGO softens my new growth and definately CO washes. Basically, the more moisture your hair is, the better. I would suggest gentley combing the hair while wet.

yes, i do co washings..i just started like a week ago, so I can't really tell any difference. I usually use the water stream to detangle it and that SEEMS to work until i take my head out of the water..no matter what i put on my hair to keep it moisturized, it sucks it up and doesn't seem to do much. It seems like my hair dries almost instantly. It's in a fro before I can even put it in a protective style. I moisturize it some more and try to gently comb it with the widest tooth comb i own but it's still a fight..i will try the hair butter tho.

I use Profectiv Roothealth and castor oil to soften new growth.
I bring out Sta So Fro when my newgrowth gets really tough usally after eight weeks post relaxer.

yea, it's about to be about 2 months since i had a relaxer..so it's getting really tough right now. Thanks Tho, I'll try the profectiv, castor oil and the Fro stuff if i can find it.

hmm..i'll have to write these down so when i go shopping i can pick and choose...i'm tryna grow my hair on a budget

ITA, especially with the olive oil. also this brush JILBERE Brush at Sally's works wonders--especially in the shower. one of my bestest bestest investments

i also find that to keep my hair from tangling when applying products after i wash it, it's easiest to divide my hair in sections--layers if you will. do a section comb (brush) through. that seems to make a world of difference.

well, i'm a try this stuff next time i'm out shopping which should be sometime pretty soon..not to sure tho. One other thing..I have to wash my hair in the sink *ugh* so I seperate it and wash in sections to try and stop the tangling..this seems to work for the length of my hair..it's just the roots. but I will most definately invest in some oils and the spray..THANKS everyone it's was MUCH appreciated.
