Has the steamer really made a difference in your hair?

I use my hair steamer every other week and I have seen an improvement in my hair. It stays moisturized longer and I don't have to use as much leave in condish. While getting my pedicure today at JC Penny's I asked the price for using their steamer and was told it is $45 for 30 minutes! I have paid for my steamer at least twice!!
Girl they have lost their minds. That makes me love April even more!!! Q

The stylists I have been to charged $10-$20 per treatment and this is why I decided to buy one I knew it would pay for itself. I waited over a year to purchase one, but I have to say it is one of the best hair investments I have made. I love that I have noticed the oil production on my scalp; I attribute this to the treatments as well as the moisture retention in my hair. I :heart3: my steamer too.

Well I finally broke down and bought a steamer today. I have wanted one for 3 years now (way before I even found this site). I can't wait. I am going to have to control myself!!! So April is gonna have a cousin soon, June

This is probably the most beneficial bandwagon I have jumped on...:lachen:

I just ordered one from Salonfitters off e-bay...I really, really need this.

Thanks to everyone for keeping steam treatments on the front burner.

Really important..it's detoxing your scalp...:yep:

My steamer is making all the difference to my hair...it's moisturized, healthy and not going snap crackle pop anymore. :yep:

In my opinion, my beautiful Eva (yes, I named her!) has already paided for herself at least twice over.
This is one of the best investments I've ever made, hands down.

Which steamer did you purchase?
I'm thinking "Eva" as in evasalon.com

well if any of you ladies are in the NY area, preferably the Bronx, the Dominican Salon I go to uses a steamer and pibbs dryers, its a mother daughter shop, very organized, do what you ask, only blow the roots, LOVE THOSE LADIES:grin:. When I first went, she put conditioner in my hair and told me to sit to be conditioned i said ok, and she said "no, no mami not that, THIS, es muy bueno" My hair feels like silk when I leave I can't stop playing in it.

I'm wondering if I should get the tabletop steamer or the steamer on wheels. I like to lay in bed when I'm drying my hair but I'm worried that if I get the tabletop steamer the oil would drip off my hair into the bed..Any thoughts on this? I'm ready to purchase my steamer like now.

Aw April is so happy for you. :yay: Let me know when June arrives!!!! Q

Do you wet a towel, wrap your hair and then sit under the dryer?
Not sure how to do the turbie twist.

Sorry Yodie I'm just now seeing this, but yes I dip my turbie in boiling water and put on a plastic cap and set under the dyer for 30-45 mins. I'm pretty sure the benefits of using an actual steamer are greater, however, I did get excellent results with this method and I'm going to continue to use it. I don't know maybe later on far far far down the line, I may cross over and get a steamer, but right now I'm more then satisfied:yep:

You people are pure evil.

:angeldevi

With all your steamer talk.

:blah::blah::blah:

I've been trying to ignore this stuff for weeks.

:noevil:

Now I have to get one!

I'm trying to decide between the two as well, until my budget allows me to buy one this Friday.

I love that I can sit anywhere and use the roll around steamer. However, it's big and I'd have to find a place for it.

The tabletop can be hidden easily, but the one I'm considering ($109 total) seems so flimsy and I honestly can't see where the water goes. This is the one from London. I also don't want to wait another two weeks for it to arrive.

For now, I've been getting into the shower, no cap, shutting the doors and windows and trying to let some steam get to my hair.

I have recently purchased a steamer and have only done one treatment so far. Compared to the hot towel with heating cap the only difference I have experienced is a reduced amount of breakage of my ends. Both processes mositurized my hair but with the steamer I didn't feel the need to moisturized and seal my ends every day, which works to my advantage as I have fine hair. I am five weeks post and with the steamer my new growth is much softer. This is just my opinion I think the steamer just magnifies the hot towel with the heating cap by ten. You can still get good result with that method, the steamer results seems to be a little longer lasting. I usually have the hair issues in the summer with frizzy dry ends so I expect to see the end of that with my steamer. To be honest between my Pibbs and my steamer I have no more room for anything in my walk in closet.

Well to me that is what its all about! Exactly the results I would hope for if I purchase one. They are just so expensive though £200 in the UK which = $400US..

I loved it when I steamed. One time when I did it my hair absorbed all the condish and there wasn't even any left in the towel! I hope to buy a steamer maybe for Christmas (as I transition, I know a real one will come in handy).

I have a question for the ladies that are apl. When you are steaming, how are you putting your hair? Are you pinning it up, letting it hang down on your shoulders, etc...??

I am wondering because it seems like if it is pinned up, the steam may have a hard time penetrating through all of your hair and scalp and if you let it hang, the ends are not getting enough steam as the top of my head.

So how are you doing it?

I must say that I feel absolutely thankful to the Lord above for the steam treatments.

I use the hot turbie method. I heat the water to almost boiling in the microwave, ring out the first turbie, put it on, plastic bag, second turbie, another bag, then on goes the heat cap.

I use Trader Joe's Nourish Spa for my treatments. I sit for 20-30 minutes. Afterward, I rinse with lukewarm water to seal and my hair just feels like heaven. Sooooo moist and detangled and soft and fluffy. I don't use direct heat but I would love to just flat iron my hair afterward to see the results.

Of all of the recommendations that I have gotten on this site, this by far has been the best.

I might wind up buying a steamer but I like the feel of that heat on my head...it's relaxing too.

i pin it up.. grab it like a ponytail then swing it around to the top and put a duckbill clip on it to keep it up there

works fine for me
