Hair thicker when relaxed?

This is very weird. Maybe I'm wrong but I thought that relaxers thinned out your hair? I'm a new natural, and I've always thought I had pretty thick hair (until I took a good look around here:lachen:), but it seems that my hair was thicker when it was relaxed! My twistouts are limp, my w&g's are laughable, just very thin and lifeless, even though it feels healthy, and is not dry or anything. Anyone else have this issue? Maybe it is something I am doing wrong that is thinning my hair out?

My reggie is pretty simple, I usually just cowash every other day with HH mixed with Coconut oil, and then once a week dc with AO HSR. My leavein is Giovanni, but I don't put it in all the time, and I moisturize with sheabutter and aloe vera juice/water mixture and seal with castor oil. I do protein randomly with Joico, and I shampoo once in a blue moon with NTM. After I wash, I twist it and wear it that way for a couple of days, then take the twists out and wear a twist out for a couple of days. That's about it. Am I doing wrong or is it just genetics that is thinning my hair as I age (I'm only 22 wtf!:wallbash:)

Is that you in your siggy?

Doesnt look thinning at all, i see big chunks and all! lol mmm sorry if i'm not answering any of your questions

Shoot, my hair is thick as all get out, and I've been relaxed for very many years now. I wish it would thin out some of this mess a little!

sadly enough that was when I was transitioning! I actually had more relaxed hair than natural in that picture :lachen:I should really update it...

Maybe we can switch :( But I'm just wondering if someones hair can radically change in thickness from stopping a chemical service or w/e

idk...

Maybe all of the conditioning is making your hair appear thinner or lifeless. This could be especially true if you have fine hair.

I'm not sure what kind of grade of hair I have. It is pretty coarse, but yet not really thick at the same time. I think I will reduce my washing to once a week perhaps that will help some

Hmm I believe that I can relate. I would say that all of the co washing is making your hair feel like that. Leave the conditioner alone for several days and see what difference it makes in your hair. I know it's hard to resist, but try it.

I can relate.
I have very thick type 4 hair. I'm at the end of my transition now.
But I also feel like my hair strands seemed/felt thicker when I was relaxed than they do now.

Now they are still thick, don't get me wrong but they seem more fine and fragile now than they did before.

And I think its weird too.

PM me if you want.
