Hi Ladies,

Wanted to know if any of you out there who steam regularly or have only steamed once, did you notice thicker hair?

I just got a steamer that I am testing out. I have used it once and I swear my hair is thicker after just one use. After steaming and blow drying, my hair was initially in a protective braided style for a few days and I call it the "Ms Ceelie" (yes, think The Color Purple) and my braids were noticeably thicker. I thought it would somehow wear off as the days passed and my hair is manipulated, but that did not occur. I braided my hair into a mohawk and the braids are definitely thicker and I had to use way more grip to make sure the braid came out smooth because the hair was so swollen/thick.

Anyone else experienced this?

IDK. I do a bootleg version of steaming:lachen: until I can buy a machine. What type of steamer did you buy? I recall you not wanting to mess up the flow of your home's decor.

Dang! You have really good memory! I actually bought a table top steamer from huetiful.

I don't think I noticed thicker hair, but it definitely felt stronger. Also, my hair is in a transitioning stage with pretty pitiful relaxed ends so that might have something to do with it. I didn't really pay much attention to whether or not my roots felt thicker. I have used mine about 7 times since I purchased it last month.

You're so lucky!!
I never noticed anything like that, and I was steaming weekly from January until May. My hair is still fine and sparse.

Maybe it's because you have a different steamer.

Maybe your strands are thicker because they are infused with moisture/water? I remember that my stylist told me that after steaming, my hair would not have to seek moisture from the air (humidity) because it has enough. Or I have also heard that if you hair has either high or low porosity (I forget which), steaming can make the hair swell.

HTH! Love your tutorials!!!!

Makes sense.... but I thought it may have been a universal experience that I missed the memo on.:perplexed

Thanks for subbing

Please share... I'm interested in the bootlegging method :-)

I wouldn't say the results were immediate, but my hair was extremely thin and see through when I started my HHJ. There has been a marked difference because of the steaming.

I've been told that my hair looks thicker (I started steaming weekly, before bi-weekly) but I think it might be becuase the extra moisture makes your strands swell. Whatever it is, my hair definitely looks healthier from regular steam treatments. I can't imagine my life without steaming.

I agree with this statement... I've been steaming for some time and I don't think my hair is thicker:perplexed

I didn't get immediate results but over time my hair has become thicker. I started steaming this year and there is a big difference in my hair. I also have other things I do along with steaming that helps as well.

Okay, I've been doing weekly steam treatments for about a month and I haven't noticed thicker hair. But again, I haven't paid much attention to the thickness since my hair has remained in a bun. I do, however, notice that it "feels" much better since steaming. :yep:

While I can't put my finger on it, there IS something going on with my hair since I started steaming. My curls are looser and seem to be stretching a little better. Then again, my hair is also growing.

Its kinda early to call it all STEAMING, or part steam/part of JBCO. Either way, my "dull" hair finally looks moist with a lil natural sheen.

Off topic, I had to do a survey type thingy earlier in the week. I was seated with my chair facing a wall mirror. I look up and noticed that my hair was starting to take the shape I want it to and with curls, hangs EXACTLY where I want it to as it grows. I couldn't stop looking...LOL Go me!

This is so ironic. I just bought a steamer and used it for the first time two days ago. Today and yesterday I was fixing my hair and thinking that it feels so much thicker...could it really be the effects of the steam already? I still don't know if it's the steam, but my hair is noticably thicker and it feels so soft and bouncy!
