Has this ever happened to anyone?

I washed my hair this morning for the 2nd time since my relaxer last thursday and it smells heavily of relaxer. I HATE it. What do I do? I've shampooed and conditioned multiple times and the scent stays put.

Did they neutralize your hair properly?

How long do you leave the neutralizing shampooo on when you get a touch-up? I usually let the shampoo sit for at least 5 minutes each time and I don't experience the relaxer smell. I also deep condition for at least 15 minutes.

Was neutralizing shampoo even used. Your hair has to be COMPLETLY lathered in it. And with most of those shampoos once the perm is completly out it changes color. I would wash it again with some neutralizing shampoo and a deep conditioner. That should help.

First off, that is some awesome progress in your siggy.

I am a self-relaxer, and I try to use something like Motions Silk right after I rinse the relaxer and before the neutralizer. I think it helps alot with that 'smell', because it's perfumey.

I also use a cheapie clarifying conditioner like VO5 Kiwi & Lime to condition wash within a day or two of relaxing. This stuff also smells good and it helps to get some of that residue off.

Also, some of the neutralizing shampoos I have used made my hair smell more like chemicals after using them. Maybe next time you can use one that has a nice lil scent.

HTH

I had the same problem with the "chemical" smell after I used Phyto relaxer. I couldn't get rid of that smell - it lasted for 2 weeks.

Did you use Phyto to relax?

My hair sometimes smells like relaxer, and I know that my stylist neutralized well because she washed me about 5 times and one time she left the shampoo on and left for about 5 mins.

But I only really notice this if my hair gets wet. It rained one day, and could smell the design essentials. But after I wash once, it's not a problem anymore.

I think its due to the fact that your cuticles open back up when you wash your hair, thus exposing the relaxed strands/cuticles as well and causing the relaxer smell to come up. I dont think its always due to not properly being neutralized...possible though.

He definitely neutralized well. He did two "normal" shampoos w/ it then left the third one on for a while and shampooed someones hair then came back and did it a 4th time. then i got a deep conditioner before he blew me out. I hope it goes away soon. I'll just wash daily until then cuz this is stinky.
