Oh yes I've been asked many of the crazy questions mentioned in this thread.
"Why do black people grease their hair?"
"Is that your hair?"
"Is that a wig?"
"Black people have to put relaxers on their hair because its nappy ugly hair" - comment by a 17 year old white girl.
Oh and a comment by a African guy "That can"t be your hair, you must be mixed because black people don't have hair like that." This man actually wanted to argue with me. He insisted I was mixed and repeatedly asked what were my parents. Like I dont know where I came from. I'm black, been that way all my life. My parents are black too, chocolate just like me.
Now that I'm wearing my hair in its curly state, I get questions like "How do you get your hair curly?" One white co-worker asked if I got one of those curly perms. If I let my hair airdry, with no flat iron, it will be curly. I can't help but wonder why in 2006 do people still ask these ignorant questions.
