Hair Questions people ask that make you crazy!!!

"Why don't you ever wear your hair down"(guys i know tend to ask this)..."I like it when you wear your hair down, you should do it more often" (they give me the constant compliment when I do) My response...'because it's a lot of work to wear it down (the way that i like to)...so much easier to put it up.'

"When are you gonna get a relaxer...ooh it's looking kinda thick up in there!? (girls that don't know how to STRETCH)
"Why did you wait so long to get a relaxer?" (black hair stylist...white stylist just evaluates the health and gets to work,no stupid comments/questions)
"How long is your hair now?" (stupid boys/men that never see my hair down...lol)
"Why don't you let your hair grow like that...it looks so nice when it's that long?" (again stupid men looking at pics of me with my hair down...I'm like uhhh it is that long/longer, just in a BUN)
"Is that all yours?" (people that I've seen lately that were used to me keeping a short cut years ago) this one guy put his hand all up in my hair at a party this past saturday...feeling for tracks...I had MTGed a few days before...lol.
"Oooh is that how your hair looks naturely?" (when I wear a braidout)
"How do you get your hair to lie down so perfectly?" (white girl asking about my slicked back bun look...lol)

Those are the top questions!

"when are you gonna take those things out of your head" a chinese girl said to me refering to my braids

"your hair aint grow back yet!"

"when you wear your hair like that it makes it look like you don't have any hair"

Why do you sleep with that on your head? My silk scarf? So my ends don't look like yours and my hair isn't all over my pillow!

Why do you put horse products in your hair? I don't stoopid! MNT or MTG. They are made for people, they just work on horses as well!

If you want to grow your hair why do you wear weaves and wigs? I don't have the time to go through the entire speech I give! lol

Why do you relax your hair? Because I want to!

How could I forget this...

Now can white people get weaves; wear falls and wigs? WTF??? .

I'm sorry I know there is a difference in how different races care for their hair. But when a white person says they wash their hair every day. I do not look at them as if their head just came off and landed on the floor! (Usually the reaction I get when I go into detail of how I care for my hair! lol)

And why couldn't you wash braided hair. Is it no long hair once it's braided? :lachen:

I've gotten that one too. Like they are giving you a chance to change your answer without committing perjury.

My Husband's questions:

Why do you put that sock in your bun?
Why don't you wear your hair down more often?

Other ppl:
Are you mixed with Indian or something?
Why don't you let your hair grow? (duh, I am)

Lets see...

My fiancee's niece noticed my rapid hair growth and I told her who I credit my growth to... LHCF and giving birth lol but I gave her some tips on how she could care for her hair... She uses the baggie method now and I was showing her some fotki albums and she was amazed. My fiancee's mother as ignorant as she could be came in saw the albums and said "Now u know damn well these girls hair is nothin but weave!" I was upset and I was explaining to her that they werent... No matter HOW obvious the hair was, she was set as to thinking people of african american descent or black cant have long hair... She SWEARS its either a weave or the person has 3C or lower hair types! I was so upset... So I asked her so what about my hair? she said it's cuz got indian somewhere along the lines and its cuz my mothers hair is long too... But we are ALL black! how ignorant! Mind you, her hair type is like 2 something and she is a chocolate complexion... I was sooooooooo upset.

Just tell them they wouldn't ask you crazy questions for taking baths everyday, why should hair/scalp be any different?

This might not work either. My white college roomate did not understand why I took showers everyday. I woke up one morning, started getting ready to take a shower and she said..."umm..didnt you take a shower yesterday?" Apparently she and her other white friends only showered about twice a week. And what suprised me even more was hearing her tell me that even then, she only takes showers if her hair starts feeling greasy. So, if for two weeks she thinks her hair feels fine then......:ohwell:

-ooooh, can I touch it?
- I never knew that black people's hair was soft!-chick in the military when I was still in
-Is that a weave or a wig? Lift up your wig so I can see your little hairs!!!! NO LIE! I went straight to HR! Almost got written up for jumping across my desk into her face!
-Why is it that when I look in black magazines they always have ads about growing back your hair? Are all black women really bald?

2 months ago I got some dreads done with extensions and a black chick at my job said "Why would you want those? I'm not into that nappy hair look. I'm not into all that earthy stuff, eating nuts and drinking berry juice" I had to laugh!:lachen: :lachen: She was just ignant!!!
I could go on but I don't want to take up the whole thread. Just pray for me ya'll!

 That would have made me furious too.

Just last week I had to explain to a couple of white co-workers that there is no bleeding, swelling or wounds to heal after getting braids. The supposedly sane duo were under the impression that braids were somehow either attatched to the skin or inserted into it.

The company I work for has "management training" where they are strongly encouraged to compliment natural black hair (including braids). Oddly enough, I think it made them afraid to say anything positive about straightened black hair. Anyway, braids and wash & wear got lots of compliments esp. from management.

"Management training" to encourage complimenting natural black hair?:lachen:

Sounds like there might have been a problem or even a legal
issue concerning natural black hair in the past. :perplexed

Also sounds like they are trying to C.T.A.! :scratchch

Is that ur real hair? It wasn't that long last year. DUUUUUUUHHHHHH!

Did u know that washing ur hair that much will make it fall out?

Why don't u grease ur scalp everyday?

To the braid wearers: How have your co-workers reacted to your braids? Is it to African for them or do you think they could prevent you from getting a job at some places?

Well, I don't wear braids right now, but if they are neat and clean, I don't see a problem. Plus a good comeback is to say 'Nobody had a problem with braids when Bo Derek wore them, so why is it a problem when I do?'. Assuming they remember the movie '10'.

Oh, and I get-

How do you get your hair to do that?

When I rollerset or wear straight, 'I didn't know your hair was that long'. Duh! The curlier, the more shrinkage!

And sometimes when I go to Sally, they want to direct me to the ethnic section. I do get a couple things there, but is that all I am allowed to use?

*shaking my head*

Oh this is one I get.

Why do you wear your braids so long? (Being that most black girls wear their braids, twists to about the chin)

Then I explain that everyone's hair isn't the same lenght and if my hair is 5 inches from bra strap why would I cut off my own hair just to wear it the same length that other girls do?

1- When are you getting a relaxer?
2- Why do you wash your hair so much (your not a white girl)?- meanwhile everyone that has saw my hair has noted it has grown since I started washing so much
This question irks the hell out of me. Another one is, while wearing braids, "Where's your hair at?" Where the hell do you think it is, duh?!?

Do you have Indian in your family?

Why do you get relaxers when you don't have to?

I could go on and on. People are so foolish I tell you.

I get ticked off when:

I go to Trade Secrets and people ask me why cuz that is for white people's hair.

And like another poster mentioned, why do I wear that "rag/hat to bed before I sleep" referring to the satin bonnet that I sleep in. That just ticks me off cuz a rag is a dirty piece of cloth not something I would put on my head to go to sleep in.

Its ok, those same people also ask me how did I get my hair to become so thick and shiny. I just respond back to them I go to trade Secrets and use white people's products and wear dirty rags on my hair to go to sleep.

Why don't you get your hair done anymore(from the church folks). I think there is a rumor going on around the church that my hair fell out and I'm broke because I have been bunning and using phony ponys since July. Let's not forget I was getting my hair done TWICE a week to maintain that "tight" do. :ohwell:

I can't wait to wear my hair down at watch night service (PM me if you don't know what that is) to show them my new healthy hair.

When my friend had braids people would ask her if she went up really early in the morning to make them every day!
People have stopped asking me stupid questions, maybe because my older age makes me look more angry LOL

I just got this question the other day! If you noticed it's growing...WHY ARE YOU QUESTIONING ME???

I got another one... "Where'd you get all that hair?" I'd been keeping it bunned and he saw me rebunning. I said, it grew out of my scalp.

Then there was "Why are YOU having your hair braided?" From a lady in the braid salon. Then all the other ladies turned around to await my answer.
