GrOw Black Women

I just wanted to say that I was at work (retail) the other night and there were relatively so many black women with long hair. I mean women with hair well past their shoulders. They were popping out the corners like roaches! LOL.

I was so impressed and so happy at the same time. I SWEAR I seen one of the LHCF'ers. Her hair was in one of those old school banana clips and it hung like a horse's main.

I was too shy to say anything to her but I did recommend LHCF to one of the other ladies b/c she was near-brastrap length hair with highlights. I could see that one day of negligence would ruin her ends.

I just wanted to say that it was so good to see so many mothers and daughters with long healthy hair.

I'm personally impressed mainly with the women of color on this site who have successfully grown their hair out to unbelievable lengths. It's these women who erase long lived stereotypes about ethnic hair. It's yet another beautiful thing when they can pass it down to their daughters

I just remembered a time when we were talking about having a signal to recognize each other. And among the suggestions were hair tosses, holding up the L shape with your fingers (loser?

), saying sth equally crazy...

And if the observer does the same, then voilà, you've made a connection. But if she doesn't

, can you imagine what responses would hit you? Did you just call me a loser?

You guys sure make this board a lot of fun.

If there was an LHCF bag or t-shirt somewhere in the future, I'm sure I would purchase it--no one would know what those letters mean but actual members

I arrived at our last meeting early and I asked 2 women "Are you here for the hair meeting?' they looked at me as though I was nuts. "Hair meeting????!!!!"

Then someone else walked in, who I later found out was Laginappe, but I didnt even say anything to her cos I couldnt deal with anymore strange looks by this point

Sassy, go on and think aloud about S-Curl even when you're alone too. Because if the onlooker is not an LHCF-er, she'll think you're crazy either way for raising your voice all of a sudden.

If it's an LHCF-er, then she'll just confirm that you're truly as crazy as we thought

but at least she'll say hi.

I love this thread and I swear I have been out on several occasions and wanted to ask people if they are members of this board but I did not want to be embarassed. You should see my husbands face when I start to tell him what someone on the board says. One time I was like some one I know said and hew was like who one of your computer friends! Bugger!

Sometimes I find myself staring at the person REALLY wanting to say something while admiring her hair. I probably look like I'm hatin'.

i haven't spotted any long haired ladies since high school and none of them were black women. One was hispanic that had shoulder length and grew it to her butt and another was mixed with black and white and grew her hair to her butt. The only women i see now are indian women with long hair. I don't see ANY black women on campus and I live on a big college campus!!! Hmm That inspires me to be the first one!!!

or have a signature keychain...or clip( kinda like a broch(sp)...
