Gold N' Hot Ionic Label Warning!

I have a Gold N' Hot Ionic dryer and recently noticed the warning on the BOTTOM of the box that reads,

" Warning: The power cord on this product contains lead, a chemical known to the State of California to cause birth defects or other reproductive harm. Wash hands after handling."

I did not notice this until recently and would not have purchased it had I read that first. I used to have a curling iron a while back that had that same warning. Does anyone else have any Gold N' Hot products with these label warnings? If so, do you still use them?

I think I am going to get rid of this and get a new dryer. I am not buying any other Gold N' Hot Products after this....

As I was read this, I look up at my Ion Professional Ionic Soft Bonnet Dryer and IT HAS THE SAME THING ON IT. In small print on the bottom by the Date Code. I wonder if that just inside the cord.

And I just ordered this dryer today! But I don't know if I should freak out completely. The cord on my laptop has a similar label and I'm not dead yet. But I will be sure to wash my hands thoroughly after handling that dryer.

Ok, you are not dead yet  , but ladies this warning scares me. I don't have any other appliances that have that label. Exactly how much lead is in the cord? I don't think this is normal. I went to Sally's and scoped out their flat irons, curling irons and dryers and did not see any other manufacturer with this warning! I don't know what to do.

For those of you who have seen the warning...are you going to continue to use your dryer?

You're right, I don't have any other appliances (aside from my lappy power cord) with that label. I think it's a relatively rare thing. Maybe it's only the high wattage/power devices that have lead in the cords? All things being equal though, I'm not too worried about it. Of course, if I had small children in my home I'd probably feel differently. I work in the public health field, so I'm sort of desensitized to these types of things, I guess. I hear them all of the time! ;) If you take precautions (hand washing), I think you'll probably be fine. But the choice is totally up to you.

Oh lordy, I want this ionic dryer soooo bad is it the one that costs $109.00 on ebay...or the table top one? It really doesn't matter...they all probably have the label on them...just curious to know that's all:)

*when I referenced that it really doesn't matter, I'm not talking about the lead because it does matter, I'm talking about which model, the big one or the table top ones*

I ordered the table top one, I think it's 1875 watts. It's about $60.

I want this one, too. Are you still gonna buy it? Is ebay the only place you can get it??? I still want it, though.:perplexed

you can always call or email the manufacturer just to be sure. i've never seen that warning label before. if the lead is "inside" the cord i don't see how it could harm you because the cord is coated in plastic.

it won't hurt to ask though.

Waaaaay OT......

arghhh tsmith did you order from ebeautytown?

my confirmation email said payment and everything was ok and they gave me a fedex tracking number and another email saying item was shipped 10/26.

well, i keep tracking and the darned thing shows no movement so i decided to write an email to fedex to find out what's the deal.....

fedex said that although the shipper utilized one of their (forget the term she used....label? barcode thingy?) that the dryer had not left the warehouse (norcross, GA).

i just wrote an *e to ebeauty aka one world trade, inc. asking them what's the deal darnit and nicely asked if i just paid for an item i'll never receive.

also said if there was a shipping hold up (from belson? to them) to kindly let me know that. but, they shouldn't have given a tracking number and a shipping confirmation if it's never been shipped.

oh lawdy.............i'm getting nervous now.

thank goodness i used paypal!!

also ladies who've done this ebay thing before......

how long should i wait before filing a complaint with ebay or paypal...

its only been 4 days - 2 business days and i don't want to jump the gun too soon.

originally shipper said should arrive in 7 days (arriving where norcross, ga or my house???).

i know both ebay and paypal of protections for customers complaint resolutions (20-30 days right?).

i'm trying not to get paranoid......................it ain't easy though :p

I don't see that lead warning anywhere on my ION soft bonnet dryer, just the usual electrical shock warning.

Isis, is yours a Gold N' Hot? If so, check the bottom of the box...that is where I found mine.

You'll notice that on lots of things these days. I bought a fake Christmas tree with lights one year and the warning was on there>

No, mine is an ION brand soft bonnet dryer. Dlewis mentioned hers was also and had the lead warning, unless she meant something else. I'll look for my box.

ETA: Hmm... just checked the bottom of the box. It says the same thing. :scratchch

Also, the state of California requires a lot more of its manufacturers than the other 49. I think their laws are stricter. That doesn't disqualify the validity of the warning, but it is worth considering that they are simply stricter. If more states and/or the federal government had the warning, it might be even more serious.

So just be cautious by washing your hands and MAKE SURE YOUR CHILDREN DON'T HANDLE IT AT ALL because lead is more hazardous to the little ones.

Alexstin is right! This warning was on a DVD/VCR item that I bought from QVC. Apparently, something happened to someone in Calif....can't remember what it was...so this warning has to be on products that can or may be distributed to California residents. Alot of manufacturers decided just to put in on all of their products so that they couldnt be sued. I wish I could remember the story. You may have to do some research.

OT- your album requires a password but your LHCF profile says that there is no password for it. :(

I don't know shunta, I might...I dunno...have to do some research I guess:) I don't know if ebay's the only one that carries but I doubt it...it might cost more elsewhere though
