Thanks again for the info ladies.....

I am still working ona simplier routine...the only think that is simple for me now is the rollersetting process believe it or not....I have found the magic solution to make my post 11 week hair get into a roller set...at the later stages my hair cant go thru the airdrying process ( especially in the winter) for a couple of reasons:

1....I have to wet it every other day to keep it looking healthy, other wise it looks dry and fragile

2....detangling becomes a terror

3...I get bored with buns, I will admit that...its hard for me to be in one style at a time but anyway...thats just me

Thanks again (Your words help me figure things out!)
These are the SAME reasons I can't airdry!!! I couldn't imagine what it would be like with longer hair like yours, ccd!!! :D

I hear you girl!!! I can only say during summer months and post 6 to 7 weeks I can manage....but I did discover NTM daily Deep conditioner and I almost posted something but I figured Im a latercomer on this one....

I used the serum but never the conditioners casue I have a Beauty supply store ( IN MY House  ) so I was trying to restrain myself but it was on sale...really it was ( well, it had a sale sticker on it at CVS a few weeks ago) sooooooo I tried it....I have to say this gave me the most INCREIBLE SLIP at 9 and a half and now at 11 weeks...so this wasnt a fluck. try it if you can

I havent had a chance to read your thread recently...I think I am afraid to look actually....but I am sorry if you had a bad time recently.....

Try the NTM Deep con. the daily one is the one I use...

ANY wooooo.....my what a tangent, it sometimes gets easier with practice

I've learned sooooo much here!!! I'm about two to three inches below the nape of the neck, 9 week post relaxer, and thanks to you guys moisturized! :D

I do a prepoo, poo and post poo... that sounds so nasty lol. Anyways I part my hair into 8 sections and knot it up securing each one. NO DETANGLING YET!!! Just part and gingerly pin the section up into a ball. I take one section down, add my products (kemi oil or hair grease (design essentials, profectiv, etc.), mizani thermastrength, and a leave in like infusium), use my detangling comb (I loooooove the dollar tree), then blow dry until slightly damp. After I add a little grease to my ends... I like profective for the ends... and knot it up and secure with those black rubber bands. I do each section. It's time consuming (over an hour) but it's worth it. My hair's very soft.... and I don't lose nearly what I use to during the comb outs. I either leave them in and take em down to moisturize or take em out and pin it up letting a few pieces dangle. Talk about sexyyyyy hehe

Welcome ILuvsmuhgrass

At night, ater shampooing/co washing, I part down the middle, gently detangle my hair with a Big toothed combed and leave-in, braid my hair, and put on satin bonnett.

During the day I wear my hair in a bun. :)

ccd, your hair is lovely. As for me because I'm turning 40 this year (getting old y'all) the length of my hair is not important, I feel a little hypocritical saying this since my hair is a little past bra strap length, but that's only because I look horrible with short hair. If you're happy with your hair at it's lenght my suggestion would be the same as for me work on keeping it in the best possible condition, if not let me warn you the longer it gets the harder it's going to be to manage and that's fact. I hope your growth is not pressured by societal demands. I say this because I hear a lot of black women talking about feeling pressured to grow their hair long because black men like long hair and with their tendency to favor biracial or women of other races who have long hair this pressure for some is overwhelming (this is not an implication towards you ccd, just complaints that I've heard from other black women, I'm not trying to offend anyone here) but for me I have never allowed the length of my hair to describe who I am as a person, When God created me he looked upon me and he called me good, so good that he says there is no other person in the world like me. Also, I see women of all hair lenghts (this site especially) with beautiful hairdo's and often times I envy them because their hair is sooooo beautiful and y'all look lovely (I am not gay), just excited about being a part of a source with black women who encourage and support each other without malice, jealousy and envy. Whatever I can do to encourage any of you to look your absolute best I will, if hair weaves is your thang out for it, braids, perm, hair color etc..... Didn't mean to be so long winded.

Shalom Thank you so much for the compliment!

As for why I have let my hair grow, this ( from 99 til now) has been an unexpected journey for me actually, I only started out wanting to stop the shedding and get my hair to a healthier state....I had healthy hair as a young child and once I took hold of it , I went wild and my hair suffered.

At a certain time in my life, I was stressed to the point where I noticed alot of shedding and I started to take better care of what I already had and to my pleasant surprise my hair started to grow past my usual length and this was, (like what many AA, Caribs women are told), something I never thought possible. So it makes me happy to be able to keep my hair looking healthy
( ok,let me qualify that, my opinion of healthy cause others would say relaxed hair isnt healthy but thats a different issue) and the way it makes me comfortable. It has reached a point where I am sastified with my hair and anything else is extra.....I started the thread because I was frustrated with the time involved and I was curious to know how others handled the process of day to day maintenance, I guess I needed to see in one uniform way who was doing what.

I hope that make sense, I read threads/posts and I get wonderful ideas and product info...but I still needed to see ( the poll that it) what the numbers looked like...ya know.

Thanks again for the compliment

I also wash and wear my hair as a form of maintenance...no bun, no braids. Just wash and go.

Thanks Tracy  good to *see* you in the house

ok ....now I have a questions actually, I viewed the poll to see th latest results and I noticed you wash 3x per week, are you washin and goin 3 times a week or is there a roller set in there ...just wondering,

how long (many days in between) after a roller set would you then wash and go? thanks in advance if you see this :)

OK. well, back to the issue.....What I wanna know is....SO, you've reached your goal, or your approaching your goal and now its time to really maintain...

How are you all ( especially the brastraps and beyond brastraps.....) maintaining your hair?

is it airdried braids, bantus, buns or rollersets and how often are you all doing this....once a week is killing I cant image more times

Im still bunning every day. On the days I dont bun it's a single damp braid or two damp braids. I water spritz until my hair is somewhat damp. I still wash every 4 days with my Nexxus products and oil my ends before putting it up.

On another note: I had a friend who hair was waist length since childhood. Her hair texture was in the 4s. I remember that she was very good at taking care of her hair even at a young age. But the one thing I really remember is that her hair had ALWAYS felt somewhat damp. Recently she told me that that was her main secret. Her hair was damp 90% of the time which she felt contributed to all that growth. I understand that this is not good for everybody though.

My hair is several inches past my shoulders, almost armpit length but very thick. My goal is to grow my hair as long as possible but if it gets to be too much to handle I will cut to brastrap.

Anyways...I know that pretty soon I am going to have to do extra things to manage my hair, i.e. putting my hair in sections to wash, spending more andmore time detangling it, etc., because when my hair hits 6 weeks post and beyond dealing with it at this length is crazy. At this point I am bunning more and more, because is it so easy. I think that this will be my main style even when I reach my goal and wearing my air down will be for special occasions.

Long hair is alot of work and keeping your hair healthy (at any length) is more work. It is just a matter of how much time and effort you want to put into keeping your hair up.

I am just happy to know that AA women have shown that we can grow long hair because for so many years it has been a myth. Nowadays you look around and shoulder length hair and longer on AA women is seen everywhere.

HoneyLemon.....thats interesting her hair being damp seems to make sense, I always think of my hair as a plant...cause it soaks so much water up ( since I was a child, my hair loves water).....but anyway, I guess if her hair remained slightly damp it would keep it healthy..... I know I would have to wait until the summer to do that, cause I catch a head cold in a second....even considering putting a space heater in the bathroom just to deep condition my hair and set it...I get cold so quick ( these days too....its been cold, wet and drizzily in NYC)....

LiqueXX...this is how I feel, I guess I didnt realize that there would be extra stuff involved really, I only focused on the growth and how that comes along, but never though...*gee, I will be in the dryer for 1 hr and a half if I rollerset, and * my hair in a bun will take alllllll day to dry*.... you know

....I have been ok maintaining so far but I think I will stay this length, perhaps focusing on evening out my hair, cause my sides are shorter than the rest of my hair. I might trim the back for a while until my sides match.....but anyway.... I am going on a tangent :)

Thanks for your responses ladies!

I mainly roller set and wash & gos when weather is warmer..... I have though gotten use to w&g in cooler months...I use a curl ease towel to soak up most of the water, set and scrunch the hair and a big fluffy robe so I don't get chilly ........ it's just a matter of my mindset....if I'm in the mood to roller set or not

I also have done a loose braid air dried, then flat iron the next day though I'm not a fan of that process....

Thanks for asking!!!

First of all, let me say that I am super jealous of all you ladies with hair long enough to be a burden:look:. But OP maybe if you let someone else do your hair, that would relieve some of the burden. Like visit the dominicans once a week but skip the blowout part and just have them rollerset it, then wrap it when you get home? That would be what I would do....sigh....if my hair were long enough....

Although I'm in the MBL challenge, I really don't see myself going beyond BSL in all honesty. At that point, I'll be maintaining my hair with rollersets. I'll sit under the dryer for an hour and air dry the rest of the way.

lol!!!!! You right!!! I have been doing my hair for the past 5 years to save money :) and just not wanting to sit in the salon for hours BUT I am getting to the point where I need to treat myself.... This summer I definitely did the air buns and OHHHH its so much fun to wash/splash and lay down edges and go...... Now winter is upon us and I just might start investing in the wash and sets...... I'm working closer to where Dominicans rule so I may go get the special ( $ 10!!!! w& s)

THANK YOU!!!!!! Louisex3.......

visiting the Nail Forum will be the end of me(J.K).................. the PJ in me...on the 2nd step.....or maybe just the first ( admitting you have a problem) ...I stayed up late "organizing my stuff" those Ladies know how to do their thing!!!

that set is a natural pink with a fiber optic foil....girllll you don't even know
