who have reached your hair goals, how has your life changed? Our hair (like our bodies) is such a major part of how we express ourselves. Do you (or others) see yourself differently now? Or is everything the same as before you started caring for your hair? :)

Hmm my hair is getting noticeably longer. I haven't reached my goals yet. I still wear my hair in ponytails, which is what i used to do for the most part before. Only thing is, when I wear it down, i'm more conscious of it, how it's feeling, if it's going to get caught somewhere... :look: I dont let people manipulate it anymore. Like i really need to get braids, but I need someone that I trust, so that i'll be able to stretch my relaxer to 16 weeks this time. But i get paranoid when ppl touch it now... only the stylist, which is hardly ever.

I've changed my definition of "long" hair. I hardly say that now. But mostly, close to brastrap and beyond is long to me, although not on my hair for some reason. I now mostly refer to other ppl's hair as to where it falls on their body: shoulder, armpit, bSL, WSL, etc. I now see the beauty in every head of healthy hair.

I reached my first goal and I did feel happy about it but was not totally please with the condition of my hair. I have since found out that stretching my relaxers is the best thing for my hair. My hair thrives when in braids or weaves but soon as I perm it the ends for some reasons started thinning out. I have learn more about overlapping. I think my life is the same but I do feel more empowered about my hair and understand better how it operates. Although I glad I reach my first goal I will not be satisfied until my hair is thriving like I know it can and this goal will not be hard since I know now to strectch my relaxers. I already have the products and major techniques. I feel like 2006 is going to be so great. I am going to keep my album up to date. So glad I found this board it has answer so many of my questions. :D

 Since i've reached past APL, i feel musch more protective of my self as a whole, and very concious to whats going on around me. like for example, if i'm in a very hot room i tend to think "ooohh my hairs gona dry out" and i'll either get out that room, or ask the owner 2 turn the radiators down lol!!
also, girls in england are so touchy, they love to touch hair too much, so now i cant even put my hair in a pony, its alllll about the bun!

I'm also very protective of my hair. I can feel when every little strand gets caught in my collar. I also don't go to any ole stylist any more. I have to really trust you to let you do my hair.

My life hasn't really changed. But I feel much more comfortable because my hair is long. I get a lot of question about what I "did" to get my hair to grow. And I never know what to say since it wasn't one single thing.
But I love my hair!

I have reached my first goal of bra strap. I say yes my hair is noticably longer. A few of my friends are saying that I have inspired them to grow their out. We'll see. :) My ultimate goal is mid back so I'm still working on my goal so I'm not celebrating just yet.

My hair is longer than it has ever been. I'm still shocked when I take my hair down. At first it was kinda scary, just because it's new. But now I just feel so excited. I thought that having hair was just not going to happen for me. I thank God, and this has really changed the way I see myself. I always thought that black women just couldn't grow hair, and I was envious. Now I know that I just need to give it time and attention. Thanks LHCF!

I've not reached my bsl goal, but I recently bought a phony pony and my hair hung past the pony! I'm feeling more empowered each day to manage my 4a/3b hair - self relaxing, proper conditioning and moisturizing.

I'm not a very good hair stylist, but I'm now a hair lover and I become more confident each day:grin:

My current length right now is at armpit...and this is the longest it's ever been...it's noticeably longer to both myself and my family (my mother all of a sudden is obsessed with it). When I would take my hair down everyday to moisturize...I would just sit in front of the mirror admiring the length and thickness of my hair...and this is just the beginning...I can't hardly wait till I reach brastrap, better yet, mid back...I'm also more aware and protective of my hair...I will never leave the house without moisturizing it...sometimes, I even take my moisturizers with me.

I too am more aware and protective of my hair than ever before in my life. My thoughts now immediately go to protecting my hair as the weather changes or if I'm wearing something with a rough fabric or even when I'm at the movie theater and the back of the seat is touching my hair (I now put a satin scarf on in the theater or bring one for the seat! ).

I notice other heads of healthy hair (all lengths) more than ever.

I moisturize my hair faithfully each morning and evening. And like some of you ladies already mentioned, I feel more confident now doing my hair and more comfortable with my regimen (I never had one before LHCF). My hair goal has always been for healthy hair and I believe I have that now or close to it. Whenever I notice that my hair is longer than before, it 's like receiving a gift.:)

Since I started taking better care of my hair, I feel more comfortable washing it more frequently. Previously, I would use a blowdryer and curling iron on my hair everyday. I haven't used heat on my hair in so long that I don't even know the full length of it. I, actually, love washing my hair, now. I used to see it as such a pain. Feeling and seeing the ends of my hair nearing hip-length is a good feeling. :drunk:

Sherrylove, the new picture in your signature is very pretty!

________

What has changed for me? Hmmm... I use products faster and my hair gets caught (and sometimes snagged when it refuses to come loose) in weird places.

Well I have not reached my 1st goal (brastrap) but as I am approaching my goal I've realized that patience is the key. I also know have a goal for waistlength hair since im inching closer to my first goal which before kknow was my ultimate goal. Lastly, i've realized that sometimes things do happen for a reason I found this website after my hair fell out from a bad dye job, I decided to cut my perm off to prevent further damage, if that never happened I would have never realized that my hair had the potential to grow this long and also since my major is chemistry I lan on coming out with my own products hairline specifically for black hair

Like most of the ladies said, I'm definately a lot more paranoid about my hair- particularly the ends. I feel like I always have to cover them up. But when I do wear my hair out, it's good to feel it hanging on my neck.

thank you, goldensen......smile

SherryLove~your hair is gorgeous and looks thicker now. Good job on your ends!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wow, your length seems unreachable to me:eek: . I'm off to search your posts to see your regimen for inspiration.

Well, I guess I've been living more recklessly since my hair has gotten longer because I am wearing my hair down now more than ever. I'm now more comfortable with the length and I hate wearing it up now. I haven't even reached near the lengths of most of you, but I'm satisfied with what I have. I have also become more conscious of conditioning my hair well, especially since I do wear it down a lot. I live in Florida, and this time of year it's actually dry and my hair doesn't go limp the moment I step out of the door. When summer comes, I'm sure I'll be back in braids or some other protective style.

Getting noticeable length stengthened my commitment to my regimen. I can see progress and I want it to continue. I am so conscious of what I'm doing to my hair. If I wake in the morning and realize my scarf came off during the night I panic, wondering how long my hair was exposed to the harsh cotton pillowcase.

I went through that until I bought a silk pillowcase! Now if I wake up and my scarf came off, I just smile knowing my hair was still protected. The pillowcase might be redundant but it gives me peace of mind.:)

That's it! my next relaxer I'm giving phyto another chance. I'll just have to find a good stylist who will give me a discount for bringing my own perm or I'll do it myself:ohwell:.

Sterry, I thought I read that you were transitioning?

Editing to answer original question: Longer hair has change my life. However it has change my perspectives on black hair care. I believed in many black hair myth before this. My progress has given me the drive to keep on raising the bar for my hair goal.

I have always admired your amazingly gorgeous hair, SherryLove and I too love your recent pic in your signature!!

Phytorelaxer increased your hair thickness? I didn't know a relaxer could do that. That's something to think about...

hey keen, i was talking about transitioning at one time but chickened out....i am still contemplating it for the near future......

i hope you can find a stylist who will give you a price break... i would think most of them should if you bring your own stuff......

i could be wrong about the phytorelaxer increasing my hair thickness, but it's the only thing i can think of... LOL>>>>>>>

I haven't reached my armpit length goal yet, but my hair is the longest that it's ever been- about two inches past my shoulders. The hardest thing for me is not giving in to the temptation of those who cannot understand your methods. For example, I'm a teacher and I noticed in one of the textbooks one of the little darlings wrote "Mrs. ________ (me) is baldheaded" and another one answered, "Yeah, I know" under it. I was so taken aback because I'm a daily baggie wearer with a fake bun over it and I really think nothing of it. I just wanted to come in the next day blow-dried and flat-ironed with my hair swaaangin'. But, I reasoned that I should not blow months of blood, sweat, and tears because of some roguish, little children. However, it's not just the kids, my co-workers are always hounding me about seeing my hair and I'm wary because they're always encouraging each other to cut their hair off. And they do. Those are some real baldies there. I don't need that kind of peer pressure in my life. Not when my eye is on the prize and quite within reach:).

hey isis, i just realized that my hair probably looks thicker in that photo because i have less oil in it...and probably the fact that i am now using castor oil on a regular.......sherrylove is going to be ok one day....LOL......

I'd say I'm more aware of the impact that my direct treatment has on the overall health and state of my body and thus try to live a bit healthier.
I also pay more attention to my looks now.
Can you say make-over,lol?:p
