Famous Last Phrases Before a Setback

Having been on LCHF for a few years, I have noticed certain phrases before a setback. It would be rude to tell the person that they are preparing for a setback so I thought we could put the phrases in here, and maybe people will check themselves.

1. People decide to relax in order to show length when they couldn't maintain relaxed hair in the past.

-It is my opinion that relaxing the hair should be done because it is the best styling choice for the person, not just to show length grown while natural. Most of these individuals are transitioning now without the length.

-If you weren't able to attain the length you wanted with a relaxer in the past, what makes you think you can retain with one now? Growth can take years, but setbacks take seconds

ETA: Please add the phrases you always hear before a setback.
2. People decide to abandon products that work for them in order to jump on bandwagons, use one product line, or because they reached their goal

-It takes the same thing to keep it as it took to get it. It is a bad idea to take your hair for granted.

I'm dealing with a setback from bleaching.

Here were mine: It'll be okay because I will just up my hair care by DCing more often and being more gentle.

Great idea Seamonster. I know that every setback I have had was caused by taking too drastic a departure from my regular routine to try something new...I kept chasing the brand new miraculous Unicorn blood hair treatment --you know the one with the argan-puppy-tears-coconut-shea-dragon butter that helps you maintain the ideal protein/moisture balance and grows your hair three inches a month? Seriously, though every time I went for a straightening method that meant less daily work. As much as natural hair takes a different kind of effort...if l stick to the basics, my hair seems to thrive. Drastic changes and bandwagons are not my friend.

Everybody's having good results with Kimmay's leave-in conditioner. I'll just use a little. :look:

I didn't know that my hair was low porosity. That mess put my hair's cuticles on lockdown!! I couldn't get a decent amount of moisture in my hair for months!

**my hair hates ____, I think I'll use it as a leave-in or mix it with the other hair products that my hair hates for a dc to get rid of it

I don't know if anyone on here has had a setback from doing this. It just always sounds like a baad idea lol. I say either use it as shaving cream, give it away, or throw it away. If it's a shampoo your hair hates, use it to clean your brushes/scarves/etc.

lol Your post reminds me of when I reeeeally wanted Hello Hydration to work for my hair. My hair haaated it, but I kept buying it over and over. I'd be in the store telling myself, "Maybe I used it wrong, maybe I thought it didn't work but it really did" and other crazy mess like that. Everyone else loved it, I wanted to love it, too :(

At the beginning of my hhj, I was a FIRM believer in "shampoo is shampoo" as long as I use a good quality conditioner. WRONG! That v05 and Suave jacked my hair up. It took a better part of a year to get my hair back to normal. It's hard for a lot of people to believe that something as simple as shampoo xan damage their hair.

Getting wrapped in youtube videos or haircare routines where people blowdry.

I will sit here with my mouth hanging open, thinking that if I just lightly blowdry to stretch my hair, I can then style with no problem, just like so-and-so.

Well, no ma'am! I know from experience that all it takes is one blowdry and it's a wrap; breakage ensues from there.

And to make it so much more ridiculous on my part, I am only blowdrying to put my hair in a protective style, which is all I wear anyway.

Guess what? I haven't touched a blowdryer in at least two years and my hair has thanked me.:yep: Almost got hypnotized by a couple of youtuber's over the past week and I had to give myself a quick dose of reality:

"THAT DOESN'T WORK FOR YOU SO STOP TRYING TO CONVINCE YOURSELF IT WILL!!!":drunk:

I can't afford to take care of my hair anymore...

I don't have time to do XYZ anymore....

My boyfriend likes my hair XYZ way...

I'm tired of my hair looking the same...

She has the same hair type as me (i think :look:), so I'm gonna use EVERYTHING that she uses and do EVERYTHING that she does...

She is my hair idol, so I'm gonna use EVERYTHING that she uses and do EVERYTHING that she does...

She grew from SL to WL in one year with the ____ method, I'm jumping on the bandwagon!

"Everyone else has success with this technique so I must be doing it wrong."

I cringe every time a You Tuber "weave guru" says her hair texture matches (insert …… Himalayan, Mongolian, Mountaintop Sheep people….) texture and then proceeds to flat irons her leave out to death.

Giirrlll, that be me and Aubrey Organics right thur:lol:. It seemed like EVERYBODY and their momma lurved AOHSR. so i bought it. Used it. Sucked. Bought it again. Sucked harder. I thought "i must be doing something wrong, how come everbody else get soft hair and the ish just sits on my hair". I would have bought another bottle if i didnt put braids in my hair. What worked awesome for me was the new Nexxus Humectress that every one HATED:lachen:.

Other setbacks-
-My hair is short already, im trying to grow it, Im dont need a trim.
-Hey that youtube guru washed her 4a-b hair without sections! She just washed straight down! Im gonna try that too:nono:
-I love my denman:lick:..... huh, say what?..... finger detangle...... Im gonna start doing that just like she did!
- Im sick of this ish:wallbash: im gonna relax my hair this weekend!!........ any tips on how to go about it?
-my ends are dry.... Im going to chop all my hair off

I was so close to the going to the domincan salon last week. I am under wigs 95% if the time and got sick of it. Wanted to try something new. I air dryed, flat ironed, and curled, and a few days later trimmed myself.

“I’ll detangle later with a conditioner that everyone says has an amazing amount of slip.”

Even though it took me years to find an effective, non-damaging method for detangling, I did it anyway. Even after sampling all of the purported slip-infested products only to receive slip-less results, I did it anyway. After an hours long detangling session of unraveling dreads and cutting off knots, I finally learned - do what has proven to be effective and stop BSing around.

Oh I wanna "enjoy my hair"
(leaving it down using heat to maintain)
Pure no-no for me as I did this for an extended period of time.

Famous last worlds italicized.

My setback was from not following the "less is more" mantra.
I need more heavy protein. If one Aphrogee treatment was great, doing it again withing two months will be better!

Another setback from from doing too little with my hair.
There are many black women with classic length hair that only wash, condition and style. I don't need to do the Naturally Curly or LHCF methods of hair care!

Last
Burn your combs movement!

The first situation landed me with "burnt" (feeling) hair. My right nape is just getting back in shape after almost a year and a half. The second kept my hair at the same length for years. The last left my hair tangled and locked from the shed hairs that wasn't coming out.

I just dump the conditioner down the drain and use the shampoo to clean brushes, combs, wash hands....

I have gotten the worst set backs trying to make products work.

LovinLea What setback are you having? I'm relaxed and bleach and color:look:.

My setbacks were

- Imma try low maintenance routine and detangle once a week:rolleyes:
- Oh Mega Tek is growing out hair faster? Let me try that:sad:
- Silicon Mix has a lot of slip - Let me use that as my leave-in, dc, co-wash and moisturizer :drunk:
- Who really needs trims:ohwell:
- Yea I can trim my hair myself with these kitchen shears:spinning:
-Everyone is using WEN, Imma get Hair1 from Sallys :burning:
-Joico is popular lets try that:perplexed
-I know this conditioner says 5 to 10 minute - but Imma leave it on overnight and get EXTRA conditioning:gorgeous:
- Oh yeah and that one time I melted off all my bangs because I bleached and relaxed - that was totally my fault and I knew better:lachen:

Chiiiiild whiteoleander91 I dried my hair out something fierce doing this. It broke too. :ohwell: Beware of Proclaim conditioner. It's trash.

@crlsweetie This lol...every time I say...I think imma take a break from PSing (wigs) and wear a bun or twists, etc....I have to have my wigs to help me retain length. I see great results this way.

doing a henna treatment every 6-8 wks for the past few years has been so good to my hair... just think how much better it will be if i do them every week:nono:

lesson learned #1- too much of a good thing, not so good
lesson learned #2- i'm protein sensitive
lesson learned #3- if it aint broke leave it the F alone
lesson learned #4- don't try to convince myself breakage is shedding

I'm bored with this new color, so let me bleach it and dye it a different color.

I'm getting braids so I can leave them in for______months and not have to do my hair.

I'm getting a deva curl cut.
