Expensive hair products that aren't worth the money

Now that I got a hold of the sample pack. I can say without a doubt Miss Jessie's EVERYTHING is wayyyyyyyyyy overpriced.

Now I know if I can turn my 'kinks to curls' with some $4 sparkellites gel then the $38/$48 dolla products should be able to produce something more than frizz.

I was Miss Jessie's for me.

I'm interested in more input. After all, quality products at an inexpensive price is what's needed during these tough economic times.

Jane Carter Solution stuff -The gel and mousse just don't work! The rest works fine, just nothing special.

Nexxus, Keratase and Carol's Daughter as others have said. Nexxus and Keratase are full of the same mineral oil and petrolatum as the ghetto BSS stuff and though Carol's Daughter uses natural oils, she manages to make it feel like ghetto BSS junk on the hair. AMAZING!!!

Miss Jessie's saddens me because it actually worked well for me and Fantasia IC is nice, but not even remotely the same effect for my hair. It gives some curl definition but has the "crunchy" shellacked gel after effect. Before they reformulated everything and replaced vegetable glycerin with mineral oil (ghetto BSS nonsense), I actually paid the money because to this day, nothing has worked as well as the Meringue for me. NOTHING!!!

I would also add Paul Mitchell to the list, especially Foaming Pomade and the Tea Tree Pomade (it's expensive JAM). Also, Sebastian Potion 9.

I so wanted to hate WEN Fig, but it does really work well for me....and so does Sabino Moisture Block. I like Redken Butter Treat too.

I have not tried many other expensive products.

Chi Silk Infusion

I love this stuff, I really do, but it's way overpriced. I'm looking for alternatives.

ETA: $22.00 plus tax for a 6 oz. bottle :wallbash:

MOP: Modern Organic Products. Was mentioned before but needs to be mentioned again. Ladies be warned. This is not only overpriced, but their Mixed Greens Conditioner took my hair straight to HE!!. Like washing my hair with some industrial floor cleaner. They do have a delish deep conditioner, but its not worth the price either.

ETA: oops! I just saw my mistake...I meant Mixed Greens Shampoo!!

cool thread ladies! I just purchased two MOP products and will come back w/a quick review of them. They were pricey to me but I figured what the heck. The shampoo is a no go. You would think that in order for something to be labeled as organic then it should be organic.....so not the case.

Yeah, I was using MOP for a minute there, and it's not really worth $17 for a conditioner. If you like Giovanni's, it's cheaper and is still organic. MOP made my hair feel sticky and hard.

I liked it at first, but after awhile, I realized it wasn't the greatest.

I just thought it would be nice to have this go around again for some "updates" on products that are not really worth it....some of us don't have money to burn and are trying to KISS with our hair reggie's.....I saw some products that I have in my own cabinets...I will be going thru them all and throwing out what does NOT benefit my growing experience.

Is there a thread for expensive hair products that ARE worth the money? I'd find it really helpful with this economy. Let me know! I'm transitioning to natural - if that will help!

I have always been willing to spend for the products that give me the results I want, but:........

1.Kerastase: cone city, Loreal basic recipe with miniscule amount of amazonian oil/butter that would be cheaper to buy in BULK, blase blah- I HATE how my salon hypes it up to be so high end.Locking it in cases:rolleyes: When my stylist tried to "add on" after my last service it took everything in me to say:"No I don't wan't that ish":nono:

2.biosilk - a waste for me why would I want a serum with sd alcohol in it? I think I tried the silk therapy conditioner a few years ago. BLAH!!!!

3.ojon- I prefer red palm butter in bulk thanks.

4.Carol's Daughter: not really expensive, but not worth it and too hyped up!

4.anything hyped to be "elite" with a name/marketing with not so special ingredients or nothing to set it apart from another cheaper product with similar ingredients or results. i.e. A lot of stuff at sephora

I would have to second you on the Carol's Daughter, totally waste of money :nono::nono: for me.

UBH products, I like the moisturizer and dew spray, but not worth the price.....paul mitchell, I love his products, but the price could be a little cheaper.....TIGI Bed Head, same here price needs to be cheaper, but I'm doing the whole Ayurveda...these expensive shampoos might be making my hair porous.....

Its weird because I just posted on the aussie moisture thread pertaining to this same topic, here it goes:

This could very well be as good as an expensive namebrand, most of the time the prices go with the brand name only, not the actual product inside the bottle, just cause something is less expensive, does not mean its not a good product, its just less recognized, most companies take advantage of their name and uses that against us, in pricing, and most of the time we fall for it thinking that it must be good cause it cost so much, a lot of these high priced products don't work half as good as the cheaper ones.

Really I loved the Mixed Greens (actually forgot I had it until now!). It is not a heavy conditioner though maybe that is the problemm.

I second this! Can someone tell us ladies what are good products for natural heads the does not cost through the roof? I was and still am considering trying Miss Jessie's but just don't know which one to try without that hard crunchy texture feel. I've been using the s curl moisturizer but hate the way it makes my hair feels.....you know all gummy! Any suggestions is most appreciated.

Someone recently gave me some suggestions on better ways to use my Ojon treatment, but I have not had the chance to yet. So as of now, BIG waste of money. Smells like cigarettey brown grease in a jar....so sad....infomercials get me every time!

Keracare Everything
Aveda styling products
Alter Ego
Everything Chi except silk infusion serum
Sorry,
but I would have to disgree with these two:
- KeraCare Essential Oils is one if not THE best oil mixture I have ever used! I hate it when my hair looks like I slapped some baby oil or a little leftover grease from yesterday morning's bacon on my strands - this is the lightest oil mixture I have used, smells pretty good, and leaves my hair feeling soft, not greasy!
- CHI Nourish Intense is in my Top 2 conditioners that I have ever tried , and I have tried ALOT of them since I have been a member of this board lol, including several from Joico, Redken, Kenra, Biolage, ors, Tigi Moisture Maniac etc., and this trumps them all except for my beloved Aubrey Organics Honeysuckle Rose, and maybe Affirm 5-in-1. Add some Aloe Vera, a humectant, and a good oil and WOWWW
The CHI Nourish Intense Shampoo is the best shampoo i have ever tried. period. not sure what the ingredients are, and don't really care  it works for me!

1. KeraCare Humecto-it's mostly cones, mineral oil, and perfume.

2. Many of Carol's Daughter products--even though I am in love with the Black Vanilla Leave-In (I currently have 4 unopened bottles of it), I have to call the company out. Lisa's Hair Elixir is primarily soybean and olive oils, mixed with sweet almond, peppermint, and sage oils. There is no reason that it should cost $18. I do use this product, though, because it works for me.

Healthy Hair Butter is also overpriced and one of the main ingredients is beeswax. Plus, I didn't find the moisturizing properties overly spectacular.
